Alex Terrible is a goofball with a great sense of humor...but yeah, their image is a bit intimidating. I don’t think the band has made an official statement about the meaning of the song/video. Baba Yaga is an ogress in Slavic folklore who eats her victims, who are often children. A lot of fans speculate that the dismembered person they’re eating in the video is Baba Yaga. They have an album coming out this year, so hopefully we’ll be getting more outrageous music videos. But “Agony” is another great one from them. A 34 yr old lady got eaten alive by a black bear and her two cubs a week or so before this dropped in my town hiking on a trail (CO). They found human remains in all three of their stomachs before killing them. Kind of off-putting for me. I am always for some good folklore but killed it for me. I've gotten used to the cleans, but wasn't too keen at first. I respect the song, and like you said they are not scary but don't think I'd be jamming this in my car continually hearing "Blood we Drank, Flesh we Ate". But to each his own.
Baba Yaga is not any sort of ogress in our mythology. Baba is literally slang for grandma or old woman in most slavic languages. You may describe her as a witch like character maybe. But definitely not an ogre.
in Slavic folklore, Baba Yaga is an old woman (or trio of old women) who live in a hut that stands on chicken legs. It can be both a good and evil spirit. Yes, the bear is real and trained obv. The guy at 8:59 is the lead singer

Baba Yaga - in slavic folklore its witch, that lives in deep forest (word Baba or Баба in russian means either grandmother or countryside style of calling any woman. Thats kinda rude, but still), and in some stories acts as helper to hero of story, and sometimes works as "horror" antagonist, like she's stealing children and cook em in big pot. Also, btw, anthropologists, who study russian folklore also associates Baba Yaga with.... How to say that. Like gatekeeper between real world and world of the dead, like clear origins of that character are somewhat unclear. In famous John Wick series John's nickname is Baba Yaga, altough she's clearly mythologycally woman, no male counterpart. So i can think that they either played on topic of either Alex acting as Baba Yaga, like some of russian lyrical parts saying, or he acted as killer of witch, because you can see, that body parts - head look like kinda womans head. So, he killed and they with boys eaten Baba Yaga, presumably. Also, interior in start of video is clearly interior of traditional russian/slavic home from mid-ages to even nowadays in countryside parts of Russia. One of boys also cooked some body parts in pot in start. So, thats mythological references. English lyrics and some parts of russian one are in style of "Im so tough, cool, dont cross way before me", etc. So i assume, thats probably reference to John Wick, like all that lasers pointed at Alex, tank, rocket launcher, bulletproof west. Also, scene in the end, where they play russian roulette - they all wearing russian gopnik, or 90-2000's russian mafia style clothing, thats why tracksuits with gold chains, leather jackets, etc. It is canonical look of russian gangster from mid nineties to up to 2010. Also, whole scene, i think, is reference to somewhat "cultish" russian dark comedy, called Жмурки, or Jmurki in stransliteration. I dont know, how to translate that word in context, because there can be serious wordplay. That is very obscure, gory and dark comedy about some unfortunate russian bandits and their doings. Also, i think, that song is somewhat collection of all russian related stereotypes, like bear, russian house, baba yaga (folklore witch), tank, rocket launcher, AK rifle, winter, bandits, vodka, russian roulette. But its not just like stereotypes, but whole design of video is not just make fun of em, but to make em look cool and stylish, so group definetely embracing that "folklore". Just for some background info: Baba Yaga is a character from slavic/russian folklore. She is an old hag, a witch living in the forests. Legend has it she lives in a hut that can walk on chicken legs with a fence around it made of bones. Baba Yaga has iron teeth and eats human flesh. She is not purely evil though. There are also stories about her helping people who got lost in the forests but also stories of her luring people in to devour them.

Just wanted to be that guy and say, Hardcore is bands like terror, hatebreed, madball, cold as life. These guys are a sub genre mix of Death Metal, and Hardcore, making it called Deathcore. Or Extreme Metal, is another way to describe them.
I gotta say, awesome reaction my dudes, love watching you rock out. If you haven't yet, I'd recommend The Heretic Prevails by Shadow of Intent, and Lifeblood by Brand of Sacrifice. Both bands are absolutely destroying the deathcore scene at the moment, Kyle Anderson from Brand of Sacrifice, Ben Duerr of Shadow of Intent are both vocalists I would put on par with Alex Terrible. Also I'd throw in Pretenders by Darko US, another absolute banger.

nice reaction. Hardcore IMO is like asking someone if the food is spicy. It's all just relative to what your use to and what you've experienced in life. Back in the 80's The Rock Band W.A.S.P. once cut a topless females neck after torturing her on stage. Just an act they didn't kill anybody but it did get bloody. and the fans would cheer. That's hardcore. And I'm glad that stopped before someone got the dumb idea of actually doing that on stage. I didn't need to see, what looked like a person eaten by a bear or shooting themselves. I know it happened off screen, but I live in NYC. Got more than enough crap in real life going on here. I don't need it in my music or movies as well. It's also one of the reasons why I'm glad Babymetal.

Smokey, just fyi, about using the term hardcore to describe metal. Hardcore was a more extreme offshoot of punk developed in NYC in the 80s. Hardcore kids and metalheads were often rivals that clashed. I know how you are using the word, but in the metal community the word used is "extreme" to describe the harsher, more brutal styles of metal. It is never called hardcore because hardcore is a specific non metal genre.
