Fun fact, for the video, they worked out a deal to film in a house set to be demolished and they ACTUALLY played a show in the house where a ton of fans were invited as extras with the understanding that it would be dangerous and very brutal / rough. Moshing on a whole other level with the destruction of the property actively encouraged. Hence why it's so meaningful when you see those moments of corey hugging the fans. They were all there to vent their rage and bond as a big family. Apparently the thing got SO out of hand that they had to end up paying for excessive damages afterwards but they all felt it was worth it. Easily my fave slipknot video.

On the subject of the drummer having to know all the songs for different bands by memory...I saw Joey play for 3 totally different bands in the one day at a metal festival in Perth, Australia. He played guitar for Murderdolls first, then drummed for Slipknot, and finished the night drumming for Rob Zombie...full sets. The guy was not of this Earth. RIP

Corey does have rap flow. There is a fair amount of hip hop influence on the self-titled debut. I think the main reason that the vocals, especially in the verse, sound the way they do in this song is that it comes from their third album Vol 3: The Subliminal Verses. I believe that during the touring for their second album Iowa Corey hurt his vocal cords so there ended up being a lesser amount of aggressive, harsh, and fast vocals on Vol 3 than on the first two albums. Any more informed fans correct me if I'm wrong

Corey is heavily influenced by Wu Tang, whilst the nu metal thing made the timing right, he was listening to a lot of boom bap rap around that time.

1 thing I noticed Corey screams in Vol.3 are really similar to his screams from self titled album, like opium of the people(the only way is all the way) and liberate (Die bananas) its like the same scream, but in IOWA his screams were so different and powerful

I also noticed "Three nil" has the same... idk what is called but, its really similar to "Sic" before corey start the song has a guitar in one side of your year then in another one and then Corey starts to screaming, in Three nil is the same thing, guitar in side of your ear and corey screaming.. also similar vocals

A big difference in learning how to play vs learning how to rap is that a lot of musicians are learning by playing songs from their favorite bands. So there's a ton of musicians out there that know how to play Metallica and Megadeth and Slipknot songs. When doing auditions for new band members, people will usually have someone play their songs to see how capable they are of playing them, as well as jamming with them to see how they mesh with the rest of the band. But at the end of the day, if you're getting someone to replace for one night, they still gotta know the songs you want to play. Rehearsals leading up to the show also helps.

with that Metallica show, they basically went around asking the drummers from other bands if anyone knew their songs and would be willing to fill in. Joey was a huge fan of Metallica and knew a ton of their shit and was able to jump in with just a little bit of warmup time. Lars’ drum tech did a song or two, and another drummer did some too i think. there’s a video about it on youtube

Yes that's Corey in the video. All members in the video are from Des Moines, Iowa except Jim Root. He was born in Las Vegas. The line "I push my fingers into my eyes, it's the only thing that slowly stops the ache" is oddly true. I suffer from severe headaches related to eye strain and the only thing I can do to get some level of pain relief, besides pain killers, is closing my eyes and pushing them in with my fingers. It doesn't cure the headache but it gives a brief moment of reprieve from the pain.

Corey was a 'later' member but not really. One of the guitarists and percussionists joined later. All the proper albums have Corey. The only album without him was limited to 1,000 copies.

When Slipknot came out I remember looking at all the masks and shit and was like, “Nah, this must be awful” so I never listened to them. Watched a couple of reactions recently to hear what they sound like and these guys go fucking hard. Not cheesy at all like I thought it would be.

Dude you need to know that all this mask stuff is not just „looking wannabe edgy“. Like it or not, but there is a story behind them, why Slipknot decided to wear masks. Each one of them is different because each personality is different. The masks show the evolution from all the members and also the struggles and dark sides in their personality, so on the stage they can unleash what’s bothering them and show how they are and feel sometimes. So basically it’s an honest way to match the music with fitting masks that everyone of us is also wearing even tho you don‘t see the true faces of everybody equally.

This is Vol. 3 album. My friend showed me this CD when it came out, I was 13 back then and it clicked with me just perfectly. Slipknot instantly became my favorite band:)

I love when Corey tells everyone to stop. This is an old song, but from what I’ve seen this is how Corey can command a crowd. If Corey tells you to do something, you do it lol. Sadly, I’ve not seen Slipknot yet but saw Stonesour years ago and fans love Corey. The dude is a legend and has been through so much shit. He walked out into the crowd. This song was on a GH/Rock Band game. I remember “Psychosocial” “Before I Forget” and I believe “Sulfur” were also featured on those games. Three great songs you should check out, all with Joey. Joey played a lot, but not all, of that Metallica set. He has, however, played entire sets on drums with 3 Inches Of Blood, Korn, Ministry, Rob Zombie, and Satyricon. He's also done a number of guest appearances both live and in the studio for songs with many other bands. Not to mention full sets with his other, post-Slipknot bands Scar The Martyr, Vimic, and Sinsaenum.

Slipknot first started with 5 members. They put out a small album called “Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat” of “MFKR”. They evolved to a group of 9 by the time they released their self titled album “Slipknot” that everyone thinks is their first in 1999. They had already swapped singers to Corey Taylor and he’s been their only singer since. The only 2 members of the 9 from the original 5, were Shawn (the Clown/percussionist) and Paul (the pig/bass player). They also had numbers they all wore or went by as well 0-8. The 9 were 0 - Sid Wilson/The DJ 1 - Joey Jordinson/Drummer 2 - Paul Grey/ Bass Guitar 3 - Chris Fehn/ Percussionist 4 - James Root/ Rhythm Guitar 5 - Craig Jones/ Samples/Keyboard 6 - Shawn Crahan/ Percussionist 7 - Mick Thompson/ Lead Guitar 8 - Corey Taylor/ Lead Vocals They released their 3rd Album (or 2nd as the lineup of 9) called “Iowa” in 2001. 4th album was in 2004 I believe called “Vol.3 The Subliminal Verses”. 5th album was in 2008 and called “All hope is gone”. In 2010, unfortunately, Paul Grey (2) Bass Guitar, passed away. Alessandro “Alex” Venturella joined the band in 2014 to be the new bass player and they released a new album called “.5:The Grey Chapter”. The name was a tribute to Paul Grey who had passed away. I believe Joey Jordinson (1) The Drummer helped record the album but there was a falling out and he left Slipknot and was replaced with Jay Weinberg as the Drummer. They released another album in 2019, called “We Are Not Your Kind” and I’m not sure if before or after that album was released, but (3) Chris Fehn- Percussionist has also left and been replaced by Michael Pfaff also known as the Tortilla Man. I think there’s a new album coming soon.

So Corey is from Iowa and entered the band kinda as a co-vocalist but ended up taking the lead for obvious reasons I think. The previous vocalist left the band before the self titled album but did do an album called Mate Feed Kill Repeat that they now just consider a fairly expensive demo. The video was shot at a fans house who was undertaking renovation so a certain amount of damage was expected and allowed but the amount of destruction ended up being much worse and ended up costing waaaay more than planned but the label ultimately was very happy with the results because they made a ton off of it. Calling the fans Maggots is perfectly fine with them. We've embraced it as a badge of honor. Great reaction!

I'm from Iowa, people are known as Iowan. Yes all original members of slipknot and stone sour were living in Des Moines in the mid to late 90s when the bands were starting up

This is the song Band Maid did when they notified the Maidiacs and the Maggots that the Knot Fest that they were going to be in was cancelled due to lock downs . After that they played their set .

Little late but yes Corey is from Iowa primarily. (He had a kinda bumpy childhood and was moved around a lot but he was born in Iowa and raised, mostly, in Iowa.) True Corey was not the "original" singer when Slipknot first formed, however that was before they were signed. There was only one album that Corey didn't sing on and that was their demo album that they produced themselves called Mate, Feed, Kill, Repeat. A few of the songs from that album were reworked for the self titled with Corey singing. So from Self titled to present it's Corey singing. Joey was a huge talent but had grown up listening to Metallica and learned to play their songs when he was young. Yes you can call us Maggots. Clown was the one who came up with that terminology after watching maggots feed on a decomposing deer. He said that there were so many cramped in one spot they were standing straight up and when one would finish it would just detach and roll back on the rest of them, kinda looking like a crowd of kids with crowd surfers. I've also read that it also describes their relationship with the fans during the show, we're feeding off their pure energy during the show which in turn amps the audience and they feed of our energy. They said it's a very symbiotic relationship, both feeding off and needing the other. Can't wait for next Saturday.

Their first album is also called the (sic) album, then Iowa, then volume 3 the subliminal verses, 4th was all hope is gone, followed by .5 the gray chapter and lastly all hope is gone

You should listen to World So Cold by Mudvayne. Heavy ass bass, crazy transitions, incredible voice, awesome drum sound and even some kinda rapping at some point.

It's just theory, to be honest. Obviously you have to be familiar with the songs to play them the same as the original. But the guitarists or the writers will give direction. Like "alternate between 5/8 and 7/8" (schism) or "the kick will follow the chugs" or "blast beats for 6 measures" and if you're a drummer who actually knows theory and technique, it's relatively easy to deduce with a quick listen. Especially when you're fluent in much more advanced techniques than the bands you're filling in for. Check out Aaron Kitcher's "C*nt Crusher" drum playthrough if you want to see some ABSOLUTELY MIND-BLOWING metal drumming technique. If you think you've heard good drummers, you haven't (with the exception of Danny, obviously lol)

Maggots - Yes..all good 🤘🏻 The ‘I push my fingers into my eyes’ part, Corey has really bad migraines (pretty self-explanatory once you know the context) As far as the meaning of the song…(per CT) “The song itself is basically inspired by my life at the time. I was trying to figure out the struggle within myself, the duality of the soul. This was my way of figuring out how one’s good half lives with the bad half. I’ve struggled my whole life to be a good person and to make the right decisions yet there’s something inside of me that’s okay with making bad decisions.” Hope this helps!

On the discussion of drumming for other bands. A drummer will no doubt add their own little flair when filling in for another band but there are notes and scales in drumming just like in guitar and other instruments. Anyone can learn any song by knowing music theory. Keep up the great work fellas 👍

I was at a show they had in Arizona that was seated. Bolted down seats that all got torn out and the place was destroyed. I saw a show there after and they started adding a destruction fee

In order of release: Slipknot, Iowa, Vol 3, All Hope is Gone, antennas to Hell, the gray. Chapter, we are not your kind. Corey replaced the lead singer before their self titled album and has been the lead singer to the best of my knowledge since 97 or 98. As far as being a maggot is concerned most of us see it as a term of endearment and are proud of that moniker.

Check out early Slipknot and Stone Sour, as well as his solo stuff, for Corey's rapping. Plus, you guys already reacted to his solo song "MFCT Must Be Stopped", which featured Tech N9ne and Kid Bookie. This song is from Vol 3: the Subliminal Verses, which is their 3rd album. In terms of the Slipknot members being from Iowa, all of them in this lineup, except Paul the bassist, is form Iowa.
