Damn,..... for a female to acknowledge the hardships of a fatherless boy coming into manhood isn't easy! She painted a hurtful but beautiful picture of how it really feels. Great job Rapsody, very talented.
That’s exactly what I thought. Her ability to step outside of her female frame, and seriously consider the plight of a black man is rarely expressed anywhere.
She can speak on it because she too experienced it and when you have brothers and watching your brothers go through it you can witness their full story.
You know what's great about talented rappers getting mainstream success? They also expose us to other talented rappers. Thank you Kendrick for giving Rapsody some greatly needed attention.
So I just bought the EP off iTunes, half way through I was like "OK rapsody is the best female MC right now", when I reached the end I was like "ok, rapsody is one of the best RAPPERS right now"
Why do we give attention to females rappers like Nicki Minaj, Iggy Azalea, Chanel West Coast than only sell sex, when we should focus on real rap and real rappers like Rapsody, in my opinion she is the best female rapper ever
***** I legitimately am not sure if chanel west coast makes music I have only seen her on that mtv show and she seems like she is not even close to being capable to produce something as good as this haha.
9th wonder mixtapes introduced me to her and since then I'm a big fan ,i love her cuz of her soul. And yes i would love to see a collab with Jean Grae. Dope
Great Story! Vivid! It is something many young men can relate to, powerful portrayal. I thank you Sister Rapsody for this reflection and reminder of what so many of our young men have experienced and still experiencing today.
"At the house since his dad left, wake up, days feeling stressed No stability, every year got a new address Never change the view from this window, he seeing mad arrest He saw his homie's death, same age, same story Questioned God, wonder why he would take a such young shorty It ain't even 8:40, already he thinking poorly But still he's the MAAANNNN..."
I swear, this song.....this video!! I must have watched/heard it like 50 times and I get chills every time! I'm not a fan of hip hop, rap, whatever...but when there's a great and meaningful song from a true artist, from their heart, there's no denying it's power. This song and the singer are simply beautiful. Have you heard any female artists in this genre that are better than her? I'd seriously like to know. I don't think so. My Words can't really do her justice. She's the best in my opinion.
The sample is 'The Man Who Sends Me Home' by the genius Bronx singer/songwriter Laura Nyro from her legendary album 'New York Tendaberry' (1969). Also on the album is the track 'Save the Country' written in response to the killings of Dr King and Robert Kennedy - the lyrics are in the language style of Dr King. Nyro also did a fantastic covers album of Motown songs with LaBelle (Patti LaBelle, Sarah Dash, Nona Hendryx) 'Gonna Take a Miracle' (1971) - the title track is a mind blower. Nyro was Godmother to Patti LaBelle's first born. Nyro has been sampled by many hip hop artists, including Kanye in 'Glory'.
This rapper is so phenomenal! She’s so articulate amazing and exceptional. I’d love to see her battle between her and the rest of these New Age sleazeballs. She’d shut them all down
The way she twists words. The visual verbalization. The way she uses her words to the best. The boom boom clank. 9thnwonder always on point. Her words are so powerful. Story on each versem simply beautiful art. One love Rapsody
Found out about her on a local segment on NPR- heard some of this and "Hard to Choose", good to hear some females out there understand men got their public perception struggles as well, different from a woman's world but she recognizes it. Truly talented artists still exist, just gotta keep your ears open, no matter where you @. Just had to add one thing she left out this song, all this is the reason we need strong women that we don't need to prove ourselves to. Keep your head up girl, don't let the industry make you take another break. I'm sure your cooking is great but this is your calling.
Screaming in my head. Wow! Where have I been. Just discovered this 💞💞💞. Education over incarceration. They don't care about the inception...indoctrination into the life, they only care about policing the outcome. Love this song!
Heard this song for the first time yesterday on Spotify.. I had it on repeat all day.. Woke up this morning and it had to be the first song I heard... I love Rapsody, She is the truth and is better than most rappers out in the game right now without a doubt!
She the greatest Female MC of all times! this is my Story been the man sense I was 13! Thank you for your excellent Expression! Rapsosy Truegoddes #Theman
So glad her verse was on complexion. Would of never heard this beautiful talent if it wasn't for that verse. She is better than almost all rappers today.
Beautiful sample, great message. This is hip-hop. All you corny, lame rappers out there rapping about a bunch of bullshit thats setting the culture back, take note. Salute to Rapsody for having the courage to rap about substance. I love it!!
This brought Me to tears... Knowing that so many of Our Young Kings actually been through this & it's more than a song & video... It's the life of so many Young Kings & now Queens bc they truly don't realize The Real Power WithIn Them!!! 💔
Rapsody changed my life...yes it is hard to have a single parent.....whether your mom or dad......with me it was my dad...he was never around but i appreciate every moment i had and shared with my mom.....and yes i am proud that i am the man of the house.....it doesn't mean that when you don't have a dad you will not succeed in life....all that depends on yourself....You Will Make It Work.........#loveRapsody...
