I’ve heard bad things about under body rubberised coatings like this,do you think there is any truth that because the coating isn’t breathable it could sweat on hot days and cause the steel to rot from the inside out ?
I do not see this product as an issue, this is no different than putting a coat of paint on the metal to protect it from moisture. Undercoating over time can peal and be a moisture trap.
i was thinking about using raptor on bare steel bumper and could not decide between the expensive upol #8 acid etch or cheap rustoleum self etching primer. it looks like you used the rostoleum.?. is that true? did that work well? any advice?
It says you can paint right over steel but I decided to use Eastwoods Epoxy primer. I think you would be safe with any etching primer to get a good bond then the Raptor will stick well.
Hey guys some nice projects going on there. Quality work! Thanks for the review as I'm planning on using this on my 68 nova pro tour resto. Question for you, I'm wanting to put on por 15 then upol over top for my undercarriage. Do you think that's overkill? Really appreciate your opinion. Thanks
I love POR15 but I think the issue you may have is over time it may not stick as well to the POR because of the glossy hardness. IF I did use POR I would do the simi-gloss. I just put a good etching epoxy primer on first. I used the eastwood 2 part brand.
How long after you sprayed your primer did you spray the Raptor bed liner? I didn't see any sanding so just curious if you sprayed right away after primer. I'm under the impression that you need an 80 grit sand scratch for the Raptor to stick.
I waited a few days but I did not sand, sprayed right over the rough primer surface, the bed liner sticks quite well. I have had an issue with it peeling off of clean aluminum on the wheel wells in my trailer that I did not skuff. IF you can skuff it would stick a little better.
