I bought 2 kits to do the underneath of my 84 Firebird. I decided to save the raptor liner for my other project because I didn’t want to deal with spraying. Did a little research about rolling it on and it led me here. I will now be using the raptor liner for my bird again. Thanks for the video and a heads up on a good roller to use.

You’re welcome! I totally agree, and the second time you do it it really turns out well! I think, understanding the process and knowing that the rollers that I use degrade after the second mixed bottle, so changing those out, gives a real uniform look throughout the process! I do feel you have a lot more control over the application with the roller! Thank you for taking the time to comment and let me know! Cheers!

@TRCa51
@TRCa51 Год назад
@@anthonychin3951 you can find a very porous roller off of Amazon, but being that I was doing Hurlulinner bed linnet on another project I use the extra blue rollers that came with that kit. I will also say you should change out the roller after to mix bottles that have been applied. That stuff really has a bite to it and will degrade a polyurethane type roller. You can use anything with a real heavy nap to it but I would plan on changing it after two bottles. It took me a while to figure that out that the roller was breaking down. Hope this helps!

@@TRCa51 thank you do much again. I saw another video and the guy had lines on his car and it didn't look good. I want to roll it and get a consistent even coat. Like he has patches and lines. I guess he didn't have a consistent roll. That's what scared me off from doing it myself with a roller. Everytime I pay a guy to spray my vehicles with the raptor liner. It is well over 2 grand. I can save myself some money now.
@TRCa51
@TRCa51 Год назад
@@anthonychin3951 yeah just roll a first heavy coat that’s rolled in well and then come back after you’ve made one lap around the car and do a second lap and it helps to have some light where you can look at it from different angles so you don’t get all those weird lines. I don’t have any lines in any of the vehicles that I’ve done. don’t worry too much about what the first coat looks like but just try to get a good cover and bonding coat down and then your second coat you’re just working on the consistency and the finish that you want!

I Raptor’d my 07’ tahoe. I did mine with the tintable in original body color to avoid jambs and such. I even had the factory metallics added and i get so many compliments. I probably get at least one person every month asking if I’d spray their vehicle. Of course I turn everyone down because I don’t want a million trucks that look like mine.

Nice to see some roll on info. Everyone does the spray but I'm going to go with the roller to try & do my Honda Element. I was wondering about the plastic trim. I planned on sanding that down before applying Raptor, but I've been getting mixed reviews. Was wondering if you have any experience doing plastic with the roller method?
@TRCa51
@TRCa51 6 месяцев назад
I don’t have any experience with it I definitely don’t think it would hurt to rough it up with some sandpaper to give the raptor liner something to stick to. I have only painted over the camouflage paint on my Lmtv and my Humvee that stuff is on there, forever! The raptor liner would start to break down my roller that was a blue plastic type spongy material. I would have to change the roller after two bottles. So just keep an eye on your roller when you’re doing it and you can even touch up the small swats with a paintbrush it on. I like the to do a light coat and let that set up for about 15 minutes and then go over with a heavy coat to get full coverage. Good luck I’m here to help if you have any more questions!

Hey man, loved the video. I used raptor liner on my truck bed about a month ago and rolled it on. Seeing that you rolled it on as well, I have a question. Since it was rolled and not sprayed, the coverage on my truck bed is not quite as good. But when it is wet, you can see in several spots where the coverage isn't great where you can see down to the metal of the truck bed under neath it. Because of that, I am slightly concerned about rust. Have you had any issues with rust on your vehicle after raptor lining? Thanks
@TRCa51
@TRCa51 2 года назад
Thank you so much! I do see that there are a few spots that you can see through. As mine is a Humvee the front is fiberglass and the rest of the body is aluminum so there will not be a chance of rust. I had some rust oleum professional and gloss white that is a really close match to the GM white. I use that in some areas that were hard to get to and I could see the camo underneath it. I had a guy that came out just the other day that says sprayed it on is very controllable and he didn’t get a lot of overspray. I may try that next time not sure yet. I thought I would share that with you also! Good luck and hope this helps!

I have had great luck with that! If I ran out mid panel, I will finish a coat with that panel. Let that dry for 20 or 30 minutes and then do a second coat across the whole panel just to even everything out. That way there’s no visiblesign midway through the panel. Happy holidays a merry Christmas and a happy new year!

For both of the vehicles that I did I had a very rough military camouflage that I was rolling over. I think if I were to do a automotive paint job I think I would probably ruffled up with some sandpaper while using a Dawn dishwashing soap to pull out any grease or wax that make in or on the paint. The raptor liner adheres really well and I’ve never had a problem with flaking or peeling. Everything that I’ve done has held up 100%. Sometimes you just have to pick a theory and go with it. Good luck and hope this helps!

@TRCa51

I also use a product called Hurkuliner and it comes with two rollers so that’s actually the roller that I used. It’s more like a spongy material and they are blue in color. I have found some on Amazon that are white in color that look like they would work really well. The raptor liner will start to eat through the roller after the second bottle so you’ll have to change it out. Just look for a very thick, nappy roller and you should be good. Put on one wet coat that doesn’t do full coverage and then come back and do a second coat that gives you full coverage, as that first one is starting to set up. On the Humvee, I did the hood and then started to do the doors and then came back and finish the hood and the two doors and then move my way around the truck. Hope this helps! Good luck!

Are used the rollers that come with a Hurkulinner kit. They’re blue in kind of like a really porous spongy material. They are not solvent resistant and you have to change it out for a new one every two bottles. Everybody that keeps saying the rolling looks much easier and that you didn't want to do mask everything up. Totally understand but... It definitely isn't if you know how to spray it correctly. Or play around on a test with your distance , thinner amount and pressure until you find the texture you like and keep those things the same through the entire job. Rolling definitely works though and pending the job can sometimes be easier. I'm rolling the underside of a car this vacation. To roll it with a good amount of proper coverage and for actual longevity you need to do so many coats though! Living in town these days it's easier to roll this project of mine, no complaining neighbours on spray fumes or covering 3 cars , plus the car that needs the underside down , 2 bikes , floors and walls. Bugger that , get the roller out. Would definitely rather spray it if I had an empty shed though. The amount of material you can put down in one coat is amazing. The last thing I sprayed for someone was an engine bay and the front end with panels removed. 15 mins a coat and was a litre or litre and a half per coat. I will probably have to roll this underside out 6 coats to achieve a good strong under carriage thickness. Just be weary of the labour intensive time the rolling takes , not being able to get every corner perfect or body line etc.

is it true that rolled-on raptor does not last as long as sprayed-on raptor?

I don’t know why there would be any difference on how long it last. I rolled on my first truck, and that was over five years ago and there’s no sign of it coming off. I would say that that statement isn’t true in my experience.
