RAPTORS CHAPTER IN WARHAMMER 40000 The Raptors Chapter of Successor Chapter of Space Marines in Warhammer 40000 A straight reading of the lore for the Raptors Chapter after a fan fiction to bring their flavour and style of war out in an easily consumed manner. Ravenguard Successors. This has been done as a sleeping or hobbying prop and due to the new codices not having this information contained within it. Not for everyone, but a useful video I hope. I find lots of little details in them make it more entertaining than one might think. I know they aren't one of the biggest and certainly are somewhat known but until I realized they were destroyed I would love to get a video about the 'Celestial Lions' they are an interesting chapter with an unfortunate history in my opinion.
The Raptors Chapter are one of my favorite chapters because they are the most professional of the Space Marines. They focus on being effective soldiers rather than being warrior-monks. Also they use the Codex as a guidebook, as it was intended by Guilliman, rather than holy script. They use their own judgment and this makes them dangerous.
Once upon a time in GW, there was just one man, a single soul, who actually knew how spec ops work and why they do so in such way, and he used his knowledge to create a chapter of Astartes that would fight in a way which would make sense...
In all fairness astartes were originally designed as frontline shock supersoldiers, operating in the thickest of battlefields rather than in small groups of special operators. Hell the same goes to the ancestors of tempestus scions, the Solar Auxilia.
@@PodreyJenkin138 true. Also, GW doesnt really put much thought into numbers tbh, when it comes to planetary warfare, so i try and just suspend my disbelief w alot of things related to that
@@dimadobrik4516 Solar Auxilia was the elite infantry of the Imperial Army but they weren’t the only component of said army So yeah in a way they are ancestors of the imperial guard
The Raptors are the closest we're gonna get in canon to Reasonable Marines. I've got them interacting with my homebrew bois circa m33, easily the best writing choice I've made. His light be upon them!
One of the best parts about them is they are total bros. When deployed alongside the Guard they mix their brothers in with them and mentor them. They don't just fight beside the common man, they lift him up!
I actually faced them with a Harlequin Masque I wrote! ^^ "The Masque of The Astral Melancholy". They engaged the Raptors because they would lay waste to a "Heretical" World that would be instrumental in The Resistance to a Tyranid Splinter Fleet that would eventually reach a vital Craftworld.
Kroot: "They do not fight like the others did!" *gets shot and falls to the floor* *Raptor emerges from the brush with a bolt rifle pointed at the kroot* Kroot: "Clever boi..."
@@DeltaCain13 I think both chapters epitomize that, but the Mentors are more closely aligned with the Empirium due to their testing of new equipment, the Raptors are more distant, for their own purposes.
Omfg. I never thought I’d see the Raptors get their own video. They’re my favorite successor chapter. They aren’t obsessed with following the codex to the letter or any particular style of fighting besides fighting smart.
The Raptors are the epitome of what it means to be a Raven Guard successor chapter. They are, like their parent chapter, true sons of Corax and exemplify their way of waging war
The next raven guard codex in 10th edition should have more raptors back ground lore along with the carcharodons. Anything that have gorilla warfare and sabotage tactics is so cool .
It is rare to see Raven Guard successors now I can only hope to see the Dark Hunters or the Executioners in the near future. Thank you good sir for your videos
Can I just Say....as a Raven Guard Player for Life, I WHOLEHEARTEDLY APPROVE APPRECIATE AND APPLAUD THIS VIDEO!! THANK YOU UNCLE BALDY!! I SCREAMED LIKE A HERETIC ON FIRE WHEN I SAW THIS IN MY NOTIFICATIONS!! I HAVEN'T BEEN THIS EXCITED SINCE AMAZON DELIVERED MY MCFARLAND RAVEN GUARD SERGEANT TO ME! But I Digress...THANK YOU AGAIN UNCLE B! YOU ROCK AS ALWAYS!!
The Raptors are a very elite fighting force, even by the standards of the Space Marines. They are effective, professional, and deadly that not even the enemies of mankind could not truly understand the how to defeat these Noble Raptors. No doubt their Primarch Corvus would be proud of these noble sons for following his ideals of war.
@@iradblaine I like to imagine that if a raptor astartes is left long enough with a guard unit, it would adopt the guard culture himself and become "one of the boys" so to speak. Hell maybe even have some homies in the unit himself
Let’s gooooooo!!!!! The Raptor Animation getting Armored is far better of a sequence of a space marine dawning his Armor then GW released. Secondly uncle baldy good to see you posting more and more recently.
One of my favorite chapters. Though some accounts I have heard have put the suspicion in me that some battle brothers of the Raptors will occasionally whisper “I am Alpharius.” In their sleep. Snipe and sneak is one of my favorite ways to fight. Took the Warhammer Community quiz to see which Horus Heresy legion I would end up in and I got the White Scars. I always did like the mantis warriors, but I suspect I am going to have to wait for the Badab War entry to hear about them. Voting for the Red Scorpions for next entry.
I definitely got a 20th vibe from them as well. Wasn't it the Alpha Legion that messed with the Raven Guard geneseed when they were trying to recover from the Drop Site Massacre? And with them disappearing for 2 millennia, that would be a perfect time for the Alpha Legion to infiltrate and take over.
Awesome story, it really captures the difference that a chapter like the raptors can do in the battlefield. Even if their origin story was kind of butchered with the HH books, they remain one of the most interesting second founding chapters, given that they have a real history and unique perks
What is weakness? - An illusion, it is a label oppressors use a whip to belittle their victims. Only those that believe the lies, who refuse to see their own strengths, are truly weak. Then what is strength? - True strength comes from knowing ones own value is dependent upon the value of others. /Corvus Corax
Thoroughly enjoyable. You've established a standard, one that always seems to focus a gentle listener with "rapt" attention. Thank you, for this sir. Take care.
I've always felt the Raptors chapter was done a disservice in the Fire Warrior novel being laid low by a lone Tau. Oh! Let's hear about the Silver Skulls next.
Love these guys! ive always loved the hit-and-run, dark and broody character of the ravens, but i really love the sanded-down, minimalistic nature of this chapter, thanks for your work, balder!
If I had to vote for a next chapter, I would say it should be a proper longer video about either the Flesh Tearers or Crimson Fists. And I do appreciate the Raptor's efficiency in battle. They're smart and not wasteful about how they fight.
Chaos, heretics and every xenos in the galaxy: the time of man is over! It is our time now! Raptors: *pulls off some of the most basic yet very reasonable tactics* Everyone else: I-impossible! They have a primarch run! Daemon crow from the distance: that's my boys!
Aye. Not seen you about for a while brother Budda. I hope you are ok and farming isn’t treating you too harshly. Again, thank you for providing food!!! :)
Well they did work with the Tallarn Desert Raiders during the Tauros campaign, which was a pretty efficient paring, irrespective of the campaign's outcome. I think an even better pairing for the Catachans would be the Mantis Warriors.
Awesome video - while I settled on vintage RG for my marine army, the Raptors were a close second. Hell, I may still paint a detachment of them still...
That Kroot story is highly unlikely, not impossible, but they'd seriously need a lot of armor piercing weapons to be a legitimate threat, because knowing someone's plan isn't the same as having the equipment or numbers to pull off victory.
I'm glad you made this one sir. I've been onto warhammer for a while now...I absolutely love it...but I never found a group that I could actually say was my favorite. Until now....these guys are freaking awesome!
The Obsidians’ biggest mistake when facing the Kroot was adhering to that pile of toilet paper they call the Codex Astartes….no wonder the non-codex compliant chapters actually get stuff done
OMG! Thank You Baldemort for this video so much! Literally few weeks ago I had RPG session (Wrath and Glory) where I've played Marine of Raptors chapter, for they methods where closest to my approach for combat IRL. 😀
I wrote my own homebrew chapter very similar to these guys and although after discovering them I was a bit stung that my ideas weren't totally original, it's cool to know there are people out there who appreciate some good old tactical acumen
I feel a slight amount of shame that I have been looking over Warhammer content for a few years, and only now do I hear about you threw Distractible. Your narrating and story telling abilities are so well done. Plan to watch more of these videos and can't wait to hear you again introduce a new podcast.
Love the Raptors I use them or the Raven Guard to supplement my Blood Angels alongside either White Scars or Iron Hands depending on what mission I want to achieve in my Deathwatch RPG games or my tabletop.
Haven’t heard much about The Raptors but they sound fantastic. Somehow they remind me of The Lamenters. For the next successor chapter, I cannot decide between nominating the Black Dragons, Storm Giants, and, Flesh Tearers.
New to 40k. Just have to tell you Baldermort and friends that this video, and the comments below inspired me to start a Raptors chapter space marine army instead of Ultramarines. Just finished assembling my first combat patrol and excited to throw some paint on them to get them tabletop ready. If anyone has any tips on how to paint eliminators so they look like they are wearing camo paint on their faces let me know! Cheers everyone!
Thanks, I will heed your advice! Love your content! You breath life into the universe like none other and are a big part of the reason I decided to take up the hobby. Thanks for all of the wonderful content!
I like to do Camo for my Space Marine tanks, Camo putty helps, it's tricky for the smaller heads but it's not impossible. I know I am 3 months late, but how did the paint job turn out?
My personal homebrew chapter is a Raptors successor, so i love seeing this! Keep up the good work Balders! The Chapter Master was Legends, Long Live the Chapter Master!
I like a few marine chapters but I like the way the raptors way of warfare. Because I don't seek glory I seek victory with minimal losses. And I love marksmanship so a bonus.
My my uncle Baldy another sublime piece of Imperial artistry given life and dynamic scope; the Raptors strike me as a version of that often overused military unit (today) called special forces. I was once informed special forces could mean the catering corps, that WO1 wasn't far wrong. So here's my thinking today, taking into account your wonderful story telling, have the Raptors ever been into battle alongside a Carcharadon battle brothers unit? It would have to be a formidable opposition to face these two together but it does make for a tantalising idea. Personally I don't have the Warhammer knowledge to write such a tale but if you ever consider it, I for one would be overjoyed to read it and I dare say I wouldn't be alone, especially with such minimal knowledge of these fearsome battle brothers currently available. Thank you for your fantastic stories brother, outstanding!
I have wanted to get into Warhammer 40k for a while but I had no idea what Marine Chapter I wanted to do so many were interesting and relatable to me personally. But I think my first Army is going to be the Raptors. Three reasons, Practical Warfare duty over glory, they are Green colored my favorite color, and they have my favorite animal as their heraldry eagles birds of prey. The perfect chapter for me to start with.
