Everybody knows this one. Morris Peterson ties the game in ridiculous fashion after Michael Ruffin throws the ball up in the air to try to run out the game clock.
Also all time traumatizing. Took me like 3 days to get over this. Then Caron broke his hand the next game, and Gilbert blew out his knee two games later. Worst week ever. The basketball gods really hated us then. 🤦🏻♂️
@@Vnov93 what’s wild is a big part of me still believes that team is a couple bad bounces (and breaks like you mentioned) from threatening the ECF that year in what in retrospect was a weak eastern conference.
Miles Johnson I agree. That year was our best shot for sure. Cleveland won the East, and we for sure had the capability of beating them. We had the playoff series in the bag the year before, before losing 3 games at the buzzer. Miami was crippled that year. Aside from the obvious Detroit, I think New Jersey would have been the only other problem. We would always lose to them in nail biters. Could never finish them. Carter was too clutch
Did the Wizards win in this overtime afterwards? TBH, What was Ruffin thinking?? Geezz, he just need to hold the ball. But at least the fans got their money's worth from OT.
2nd greatest buzzer beater in Raptors history? This one just tied it, not won it. I could think of two buzzer beating winning treys from Vince Carter, one notably against the Clippers in LA. Come on now.
This was really the end of this team. They were never the same after this game. Butler broke his hand the next game, and Arenas blew out his knee a couple of games after that and did it 2 more times over the next couple of seasons. And what a fitting way to foreshadow their future misfortune by having an insane finish like this happen to them. Thanks, Basketball Gods. 🙌🏻
no, it was because of hurt pride over gambling. Card game called Booray www.actionnetwork.com/nba/gilbert-arenas-javaris-crittenton-guns-gambling-wizards-showdown-locker-room-booray
@@akim2442 Wow. That was a good read. Crittenton probably qualifies as the most criminal element ever to play in the NBA. If he doesn't get killed in the slammer, I hope he is not released a day sooner than December 13, 2036.
that was pure luck. The amount of idiots that say it was all skill and clutch bug me. It’s hard to get 1-2 bounces and make a shot but 4 bounces is unheard of. I played sg all my life. Always was the best shooter on my teams and I’ve never gotten a bs shot like that before. I’ve made 2 bounces. In my defense I swish more shots than bounce but still it was pure luck. Not even JJ Redick could’ve made a shot like that and he was the best shooter on the floor that series.
This is why I hate the stupid practice of announcers no-selling buzzer beaters by the other team. This was so much more genuine, exciting and entertaining. It's authentic, it makes sense, it's not confusing. It doesn't require explaining. Why don't more local announcers just allow themselves to react a little bit like frustrated or otherwise upset fans for those couple of seconds the way this guy did?
in 2007 ... i Lost $13,000.00 on a 12 team parlay because of the B S toss up at end of game !!!! Thanks Ruffin !! ill never forget !!! smh !!! I put 20 dollars on the bet FYI... first 11 came out , until Ruffin...
I remember most of this as this was probably the only game I went to that year…. My now ex wife covered my eyes after the last free throw and all I could do is hear the crowd react 😢
I was friends with Ruffin’s daughter. She always said how she hated looking on the internet about her dad because, people would always talk trash about him and it would affect her a lot. It’s crazy how we can talk trash about celebrities and don't care to how it could affect them or their families.
pretty sure winning the NCAA chip was better than a trick shot on a crappy Raptors team. It is one of the best last memories I have chilling with my late baby bro tho. Thanks MO Pete.
@@daves110 Sure but this team wasn't that crappy this was a playoff team and I think the 5th seed or something that season. And Mo Pete was a good player but was coming off the bench at this time for some reason.
its actually more surprising that peterson has only played 1 min, he's a starter, so i don't remember what happened in this game and only remember the buzzer beater.
He was probably being rested in order to be fresher for the next game, given the night off, except for a few minutes. It's just good squad rotation. And it paid off very well in the end lol
The next Wizards game after this was when Arenas (Who hit the free throw here to put them up 3) blew his knee out and basically ended his status as an elite player. It was a nice three year run with him from 04'-07', before the injury and everyone figuring out he was insane after the gun stand-off in the locker room with Crittenton.
