Long time, no see everyone! Couldn't really upload videos because of my exams, but here I am! I'm back with Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure video because I love this show so much (Cough actually it's because my most popular video is TTS related). But seriously, I love this show. I'm still not over how PERFECT Cassandra is ahhhh
Whatever, Today I am here to talk about what a poopy friend Rapunzel was in TTS. To both, Varian and Cass. Sorry Rapunzel fans, but this is just my opinion and it's completely okay to not agree with me because anyone can have different opinions!

She's a bad friend because she has no experience. But by the end of the series she learns how to be a good friend. She tells Varian "I know how much it hurts to have someone you trust let you down" and she tells Cass "This whole time I believed your place was here in Corona with me, but as much as I hate to let you go, I know you're right". The whole show is about Rapunzel dealing with this and becoming a better version of herself.

Look, I agree... to a point. I mean sure, she has like, zero experience on making friends. But that wasn't a very long-termed excuse. Even I- who has lower social skills than Rapunzel- knows that abandoning your friend for three months when he made it clear he was quite possibly orphaned is not what a good friend would do. Hell, it's not what a decent human being would do. And honestly, I have very strong negative opinion about her for that. She was raised by an abusive person, but that doesn't give her an excuse to be abusive. Even if Varian wasn't her friend, he was still his subject, and she, as a princess, has some sort of responsibility to him, even if she doesn't want it. And even after Varian's "redemption" (which to me seemed a bit too forced and unatural to a point), she NEVER even apologizes to him. Like, not even once. "I know how much it hurts to have someone let you down" uhuh. And how is that even relevant? Varian didn't need someone to tell him his feelings were valid. He needed someone to rely on, emotionaly, mentally and for his basic needs.. He wasn't given that. Not by Rapunzel, Cass, Eugine, no one in the whole blasted kingdom, and that's what drove him to do what he did. An "I'm sorry, Varian. I let you down, I abandoned you to your own devices for about a year and a half (since QFAD to Rapunzel's return) and I didn't even have an excuse. I am going to make it up to you in some way" would be all it took to at least say she tried to fix her friendship with Varian, and Varian would be under no obligation to forgive her anyway. And even after that Rapunzel never just went or did anything with Varian if she didn't need anything from him. I'm just... not sure how she became a better friend in that way. (Cassandra's another can of worms and I'm not gonna dig that up today, lol)

@@areldyperez8446 Very good analysis! I like Rapunzel being faulty and making mistakes though. IMO, she's way more believable than in the movie. The writers could have gone the easy way and make this show a money grab, but they didn't. And the fact that we're discussing this 3 or 4 years later is a proof of that. But, as much as I love Raps and Cass (my two favorite characters), I have to admit Varian is the best character of the series.

I don't know if therapy existed in the time period that this show takes place in. Mental health was crappy or down right inhumane until the mid 20th century. King Frederick said he would get Varian help after he got arrested but I seriously doubt he meant it. If he did get sent to an asylum as a form of "help" I doubt it was humane at all. Finally someone agrees with me here I though the same thing. However most people always disagree and said she made the right choice. Which yes I understand she was playing the role of queen during that time however she could have sent someone with him to make aure he got home safe...to help analize the situation and maybe better explain what waa going on to varian's dad then varian was capable of doing so. And as you mentioned she could have atleast allowed him (knowing full well he probably wouldnt anyway) but to stay insidr where its safe then being forced out. Also love how they claim they don't lock up child (aka red and angry) yet they locked up varian. I understand he did wrong things at this time...however Rapunzel helped in some these and yes she may be the "princess" but come on sure if the princess anywhere else helped commit crime theyd be punished to. Yet she didnt. Then varian was locked up for who knows how long suffer assuming his father was basically encased forever and now the king queen and Rapunzel all know about it and still post pone it not even carrying to try different things to help out till later on during the series.

i know that a lot of people justify rapunzel for being not used to friendship, but they could have treated this problem she has with a more open screen time about it and more rapunzel character development on this aspect of her life. I agree with your points on Varian and Rapunzel but with Cassandra I fell as though what you are missing what Cassandra’s whole character is: that she has always felt overshadowed by Rapunzel. She does give up her dreams to be Rapunzel’s friend, and to me this makes a lot of sense to start off how Cassandra always was dreaming of being great but either made a choice to be with Rapunzel or was overshadowed by her. That’s why “Waiting In The Wings” is not random; it just gives more clarity into Cassandra’s true feelings. Yeah, she just got yelled at, but in her mind she feels like she is either failing Rapunzel(which she doesn’t want to do) or she is being pushed aside which is what the song is about. The song also ties back to the flash back- in the song she says she misses her cue- and in the flashback she misses her chance to follow her dream and now she is stuck being pushed aside by Rapunzel and her fame by being the Princess. Maybe I’m reading into it to much though! I also totally agree with with your points on Rapunzel’s failings at being her own character (with understanding people and being compassionate). And Cassandra’s taking of the moonstone was totally a little character and season three was a little bit of a wreck because they screwed up their characters. I wish they had keep Rapunzel consistant in her communication skills. She is great with Eugene for the most part and later Varian. It’s odd that she isn’t with Casandra. I feel as though a lot of the character being out of character (and Rapunzel saying exactly the wrong thing to Varian and Cassandra) are just to keep the plot going and make it juicier (and a little dumb). Great video! Sorry if my comment is a little controversial or If I offended you by it. I mean it all light heartily. Have a wonderful day!

@King Pistachion Cassandra is awesome 😎 her character just falters a bit in the finale season do to the awkward execution of her villain arc and the amount of episodes the writers had to pull it off in. @King Pistachion Wrong, Cassandra made a mistake sacrificing all her dreams and goals just for Rapunzel who doesn't listen or take her seriously, even outshines her at everything, whether she knows it or not, and doesn't even apologize for what happened to Cassandra's hand when she caused it to burn and Rapunzel kept making it all about her and scapegoating Cass like it's all on her, which it was not, so Cass had a right to be pissed off.

I have a thought about why Rapunzel had a problem with Varian and Cassandra. First, Varian- one of your points with Varian and Rapunzel is that Rapunzel never went to Varian to apologize of follow up with him after he begged her for help. What occurred to me is that Rapunzel may not know how to actually apologize properly after being raised by Gothel. I mean, Gothel never apologized for anything and Rapunzel was always forced to apologize for upsetting Gothel; after growing up in an environment where you're emotions are so easily manipulated and you're forced to apologize for so much, it is hard to know when to apologize and what an appropriate apology actually sounds like. And, Rapunzel may not have even thought about sending someone other than herself to talk to Varian because that might have come off to her as disingenuine. For Cass- Cassandra behaves very similarly (and hell, looks similar af) to Gothel for obvious reasons. She's snappish, sarcastic, glowering and pretty darn rude at times. If anyone was going to make Rapunzel feel powerless, it would be spending time around someone who is so incredibly similar in terms of looks and personality to her parental ab*ser. Rapunzel still was able to become friends with Cass and see the good in her, but when it comes to fighting with Cass I can see Rapunzel having an even harder time trying to apologize or talk to her about it, because with Gothel she was always so completely shut down. She never got to be heard, and even if she doesn't actively speak on it, Rapunzel does show through the series some of the echoes of having that emotional trauma and how it can seep in to every aspect of your unconscious and conscious self.

"Fun" fact: in Germany (and possibly also some other countries) the order of the S1 episodes was switched around a bit, making "Queen for a day" be shown earlier. For one it extends the amount of time that Rapunzel is inactive towards Varian. And also if you're not aware that some of these episodes were supposed to be before "Queen for a day" you just sit there thinking "Your friend just begged for your help, and now you don't even acknowledge it. @@Passions5555 I'm pretty sure that a series episodes are not always created in the order they are supposed to be in. Just like how the scenes of a movie are produced in a different order than being shown in the finished product. Therefor for me, the original air date in the country where it was created/produced (in this case America) is the order in which it was supposed to be. So yes, Amazon put it in production order, but it is still not the order in which the episodes were supposed to be. Which was the entire point of my comment.
@Passions5555
@Passions5555 2 года назад
@@Tatokat yeah production order doesn't necessarily mean narrative order. However this should be made clear to other countries and platforms who are distributing the series on what order the series is supposed to be shown in. Because they are not out of line to air something in production order over the airing order even if the airing order is how the series was originally shown in the country of origin. Disney should be on top of that if they care about how it's intellectual property is shown to give it's audience the right feel of the series. That being said though, painter's block and not in the mood (the two episodes in between queen for a day and search for Varian) don't make Rapunzel look too good in how she chooses to dick around instead of looking in on Varian because at that point the threat of the storm was over and it is implied quite a bit of time has passed since the snow is gone and it seems yet another festival is going on since everyone is show casing their artistic abilities. I doubt a festival like the one shown in painters block would come right on the heals of a massive state of emergency where the capital had to be evacuated. So more than two or three weeks has gone by it would seem, so Rapunzel still comes off as negligent toward Varian's situation in these two episodes even without the extra (production order) episodes in there.

Instead of going to help Varian after the snowstorm business was over with, she stayed in castle, away from everything that was STILL being ruined by the black rocks, and decided to pity herself for denying Varian in the first place. She could’ve at least let him stay in the castle where it was safer, but instead she LET the guards throw him back out into the snow. In Queen For A Day, it's kind of easy to gloss over and blame Rapunzel for incompetently handling the situation with Varian correctly, but the outcome is naturally the consequence of stress. She had to choose between her kingdom that's currently going through a freeze that suddenly just came out of nowhere at the same day, and then Varian's situation which coincidently also happened at the same day. Although, Rapunzel is largely the one that precipitated her own problem because she hadn't acted sooner to fulfill her promise BEFORE Queen For A Day. However, when I look closer at her situation specifically in early Season 1, she was mostly distracted and enamored by the day to day discoveries and social activities of Corona. She basically hasn't developed herself to prioritize and become decisive in life as a character and as a princess outside the tower. This character flaw is still actually evident back in the Tangled movie. She has a lot of interests, including the floating lights, but she never bothered to pursue the discovery of those lights on her own, only until outside forces triggered her to take initiative and grabbed the chance, such as Eugene arriving. (This is a clear demonstration of negative effects played out in being a victim to constant gaslighting from a parental figure) After Queen For A Day, it would be unwise to send someone else to check on Varian if the conflict origin was of personal matter. Rapunzel at least respectfully knew that SHE was ultimately the one to visit Varian, and it is her responsibility to fix because it is her own load she had to carry. Then once again, the trauma from being a queen for two days only downspiraled her to become even more indecisive. She was basically paralyzed the few episodes after, and the easiest coping mechanism she could take was talking about her grief. A natural healing process . . . But it does indirectly amplify the unresolved problem, which caused Varian's descent to solidify his villainy. There's a lot of ways I could point out how you're right when it comes to Rapunzel being horrible in this series, but what I applaud this series at the same time is that it does address this very boldly, and it deliberately punishes Rapunzel, causing her to mature. Cassandra's situation is gonna be a whole other long topic, so I'm gonna stop here x3

I mean while I don't fully agree with your explanation of why Raps wasn't there to help Varian after the storm (the painting episode thingy was understandable bc like you also said, ✨trauma✨, but the timeline pretty much implies that Raps ignored Varian's entire existence for 3 months after he barged in begging for help and that's just crappy friendship) I get your point about it. Tho imma have to ask you why you think she was punished. I mean yeah, angsty alchemy boi rly went nuts and prolly traumatized a bunch of people including Raps. But like, it was never really shown to us yk? It would've been brilliant imo if Raps was thinking about the attack from Varian and how she played a part in all of that, but what he did to the mains was pretty much forgotten by the plot. Also gonna put my thoughts on s1 tho lol, Varian had pretty darn valid points like; -The Sundrop flower rly was just sitting there and rotting, technically his Majesty Freddie also stole the flower :^ -The mains didn't care about him until he literally threatened them. -The rocks had to be stopped fast and Freddie sure as heck wasn't doing anything abt it. Not to mention, like, yk when Varian and Raps were going through the tunnels Varian said that Corona wasn't his main concern and that his main concern was his father? Raps was like "HoW cOUlD yOu???" Like bruh the kid pretty much implied at the beginning of the episode that he got attacked by said people just because of a rumour (that was probably created by Freddie or Nigel). WHY should he care about people like that? Of course his only family is going to be his priority. And Raps was pretty darn messed up for basically blaming him for prioritizing his dad over his abusers. So yea not gonna rant any longer lmao Edit: Just remembered the fact that QFAD was actually meant to air earlier but the episode list was kinda changed, so yea in reality Raps didn't only ignore Varian bc of snowstorm trauma lol. I think some episodes like the Ruthless Ruth were supposed to be after QFAD but I don't remember exactly which episodes 😅
@BuizelCream
@BuizelCream 11 месяцев назад
@@Gzd. You have great points too. Although, I honestly think Rapunzel forgetting about Varian after Queen for A Day doesn't make sense only if we consider that they are actually friends, but I don't fully believe Raps and Varian actually were. If Rapunzel has a priority list of people in her life, Varian sadly was not really part of it. But because of Rapunzel's general kindness to Varian before the events of Queen for A Day, it made Varian see her as a friend he can trust (and also since Raps is a Princess making it feel more special), but sadly Varian hasn't really earned Rapunzel's fullest attention since they met in EP 1. I would even argue that Cassandra was the one who won Varian's trust more (EP: Great Expotations), but we all know Cassandra wouldn't prioritize even Varian in her life still. And Rapunzel could've began to contact Varian more after they knew that the rocks were still growing and in pursuit after her, but it seemed that she somehow never found the time to have a secret mission independent from her father's blessing (since Raps fully leaned onto being obedient to her dad's strict request to not talk about the rocks and the magic since Before Ever After). (If Rapunzel even failed Pascal, her closest friend since she met him from the tower, because she was so busy with her royal life in that one episode that it made Pascal feel so neglected, it sure wasn't surprising Raps had already forgotten Varian as well, despite Great Expotations' final scene of the rocks.) (And also Disney probably wanted more standalone episodes that could rerun in Disney Channel, makes sense why most of Season 1 unfortunately was designed to seem to have "forgotten" its plot during its run. That bugged me so much back in 2017! 😅) So when Queen for a Day happened for what it was, Rapunzel had more to lose if she abandoned the kingdom just for Varian's emergency request to rescue his dad during the storm. I would even argue it wasn't Rapunzel's decision to throw Varian away immediately, but it was Nigel overseeing her. Rapunzel just wasn't strongwilled enough to take control of the matter yet, as she would've done if Queen for a Day had Season 3 Rapunzel. I have no idea where Queen for a Day was originally gonna be arranged, but I'm glad they placed it during the later half instead, making Rapunzel's hesitant to take action for Varian ended up with a shorter time frame, being S1's canon interpretation and the better one. (But then again, Disney probably still wanted a few standalone episodes after that winter special, so the writers could only allude to Varian planning in the background, unable to design post-QFAD episodes of Rapunzel taking action to meet Varian herself till the very final 3 climactic episodes starting The Quest for Varian.) So, it makes more sense Rapunzel (and Cassandra and Eugene) has not taken Varian seriously until those finale episodes because they never really saw Varian as this important kid and a friend worthy of their full attention. (Probably also due to Disney's mandates for more standalone episodes independent of the plot, so the writers had no choice but to roll with it and made an arc of Varian being this neglected kid, instead of doing an Avatar the Last Airbender thing writing Varian being more involved throughout the season somehow). Thus, because Rapunzel was written to not have a close bond with Varian, not really, it makes sense she didn't take sides with him when Varian wanted to prioritize his dad over the kingdom during their underground quest to the castle's vault to snatch the flower's remains. And Rapunzel also made sense to be initially worried about her standing with her father when they broke the law. She wanted to halt Varian then and convince him that they'd find another way, with Rapunzel desperately making promises, but it was too late for Varian to trust any of that. And also while it was a bad decision for King Frederick to ignore the threat of the rocks till the last minute, but he wasn't written because he was stupid about it. He tried to eliminate the rocks discreetly and putting the whole kingdom in ignorance of its presence, but he failed. He wanted her daughter to have her happily ever after after her years in the tower, but those rocks were a threat to that ideology, and he failed to stop its growth and the threat of the unknown that comes with it. (I have to admit, the writers did really well with their limitations to write an arc of this with her dad about pretending every's fine and perfect during the 1st season since Disney wanted more standalone episodes for it, so they wrote the rocks as this distant treat to allow the characters take advantage of the many standalone episodes they were given by focusing on developing relationships and their place in the kingdom through the lens of Rapunzel believing she really is in her happily ever after, thus explains a lot of hesitation going on with their involvement of the plot, and brilliantly wrote a coming of age antagonist through Varian instead.) Also, this has gone to long and maybe rambly, so I'll stop here. 😅

@@BuizelCream Ooh wow you make great points as well! Now let me agree to disagree and continue this battle of who can rant the longest lmaooo. I somehow agree with your point about Raps not seeing Varian as a friend. Sooo why "somehow"? Now I do think Raps saw Varian as a friend, but mostly because since she was stuck in a tower her whole life and her sense of reality is a little screwed lol. What I mean is I feel like she'd think of anyone who's nice to her as a friend, while not thinking of them as what friends actually are yk? Meanwhile Varian (thankfully) doesn't have a trauma like Raps' but he's clearly an outcast in Old Corona, so he'd also quickly become attached to people (I'd know haha #beingtheoutcastsuckslol) soooo we already have a pretty messed up "friendship" dynamic at hand already 💀. The main issue I have with her not checking on Varian after the storm is the morality of it all. Let's assume that they didn't become friends and are merely people that just know each other (saying this because they both thought of each other as friends, their words to each other in s3 ep1 confirms that, let's assume that they don't feel like that for this lol). So this random child runs in desperately during a snowstorm, begging for help because his father's life is in danger, and I mean BEGGING, and as Raps is in the middle of a crisis she can't do much. Hence Varian getting thrown out. Actually we don't even know if Varian was thrown out of the castle. It's been a while since I watched the series, but they were moving the Coronan survivors into the castle for safety right? Maybe the guards tried to take Varian to where the other citizens are but he ran back home in panic because his dad was dying? Well ANYWAYS back on topic 🤡- So Varian runs back home and finds his pops' corpse, swears revenge ect... Now I don't have any issues with Raps freezing there. Her reaction was natural and understandable. I'd probably lock myself in some room and start sobbing 💀. But the issue comes from her not checking up on Varian AFTER the storm. Like you said, they aren't exactly "friends". But Rapunzel has shown that she does way more for people she sees even less. For example the time she spent 24 hours making sure that Atilla doesn't get sent away. Yk the Monthy's shop theft episode. Compared to that getting on a horse to check up on someone doesn't seem as difficult. More on that habbit of hers in the s2 and s3 episodes but not opening that can of worms 🤡 (I refuse to re-watch those) Another thing is, at the end of QFAD Rapunzel does acknowledge the fact that she had to turn down Varian. It's not like she immediately forgot about the begging desperate child. And again, no blame on her for not immediately going after him, she needed a damn break after the whole snowstorm thing (even Pascal got a fake-death like talk abt trauma) but she acknowledged the fact that she had to turn Varian away, and then proceeded to ignore him in the following months. Like you can't tell me something like that would be forgettable. Nor would Rapunzel be able to sit on it for so long. She's shown as someone who literally has the urge to help people. No matter their friendship level, she's wrong for ignoring a child in need, a person she *considered* a friend (which is implied even more in The Alchemist Returns and also in Rapunzel Returns). Yes, her views regarding friends is pretty messed up because of her past. But that SHOULD'VE been adressed in the story instead of solely blaming Varian for everything that happened then. And no her issues with the Cass friendship is different so she doesn't learn much from this one. Not making Rapunzel acknowledge the fact that she didn't think of a friend the way friends actually do makes it look like she just abandoned a friend in need for months. And the show pretty much implies that they don't think of each other as mere strangers or acquaintances but as friends in the later episodes. (S3 Ep1 Raps: "We were friends") By the way regarding the timeline... QFAD was meant to be placed earlier (stuff like the Ruthless Ruth were supposed to be after QFAD, which basically means that Raps ignored a desperate child and went on to have fun ect) BUT we'll take the current version as the og. The 1st season begins 6 months after Raps returned and ended on the day of her birthday. So s1 pretty much lasts for 6 months. QFAD (according to the writers) happens right in the middle-time of the series. So basically 3 months after the series began. Heck even if we ignore that it's pretty much given that Raps' birthday is either at around May 12th (tweet from Jared Bush) or around Midsummer (tho I don't think this is true as 6 months after that would pretty much be winter) QFAD happened in the middle of winter and if we go on from this logically then the picture we get is even more chilling. Because there's an even longer time between mid-winter and May 12th than just 3 months. Tho that is mostly the fault of the writers as they suck at handling timelines (example; the episode with Lance and Eugene robbing Ariana 8 years before the timeline and looking exactly the same, yet in that time travel episode in which they are teenagers ,since Eugene is canonically 26 at that point in the story that'd be like 8-9 years ago, looking like babified versions if themselves with acne issues lol) So in our hands we have a princess who ignored a begging child that she canonically didn't forget about and actively avoiding checking on him or failing to at least ask anyone else to reach out to him and see if he's alright after all that. You can't tell me that there isn't *anyone* for that. She's the *princess* she has some power for sure???? But I can understand her not being able to handle this well because of her past. The issue is, this was never adressed in the show and like I said before, Varian took the entire blame even though the blame doesn't solely lay on him. And the reason Varian was seen less isn't because they couldn't do that. Chris (the writer) actively hated Varian's popularity. He also harrased people because of that and got kicked out of numerous groups because of said harrasment. Varian was supposed to have more appearances in s2 as well but said scenes got scrapped despite the protests from some of the other crew members. Heck if I remember correctly pretty much the entirety of s2 was scrapped and re-written bc of that. The harrasment things regarding Varian are still accessable on the internet, I put the links in another comment. Now the Frederic part... He sent guards after an ,at the time, completely innocent kid. It's pretty much impied that the guards chased Varian OUT OF HIS OWN HOME. And again it is implied that he played a part with the rumors regarding Varian, which would cause him to have even more problems with evading the guards. I don't care if he did it because he wanted his daughter safe and happy. Indirect abuse is still abuse. If we look at it like that than technically Varian did the same, only his violence was direct unlike Frederic's. They harmed pretty much the same amount of people for the safety of a loved one (Frederic doomed an entire village, like some of those rocks went through houses. You can't tell me that if this show was an anime and not a cartoon that people wouldn't have ended up getting stabbed by some of those rocks) doing crappy things for a loved one doesn't make those actions right. Varian was cornered and desperate (we're talking about a king that sent a tailor to the stocks for messing up his robe like you can't tell me the kid didn' fear for his life) so I can understand him, but his actions were wrong. The moment he attacked Raps on her birthday he truly crossed the line. Tho he was really just dealt a crappy hand 💀. Meanwhile Frederic had chances to take better steps yet didn't because he wanted to keep his secret. Frederic's victims were random people while Varian's victims were his abusers or the enablers of his abuse (Frederic, Nigel, the guards, Raps... sans Ariana but even that is questionable). So in this way it's also way easier for me to symphatise with Varian than Frederic. So generally my issue is with the writing I suppose. The show focuses too much on the promise and not on Raps' bigger screw ups because it doesn't want to put it's main in a bad spot -thanks to Chris- . And sorry for the rambling that is my comment 😭 I was busy yesterday so I was just writing and stopping and writing again so it became a jumbled mess 💀.

I mean, sure, there's an emergency n' all, but maybe just don't throw the boy into the same deadly snowstrorm you're prottecting the rest of the coronians from??? Also, I did the math, and she didn't stay there for two weeks, it was almost about three months. Since Before Ever After happened six months since the movie, and the movie was in Rapunzel's birthday which is in May, since six months passed, Before Ever After would be around October. Basing off the seasonal changes of Germany (where Corona's supposed to be located), October would be around mid-fall. Some time passed, and I wondered, why was no one questioning the snow on QFAD? Probably because it was likley to snow in that time of year, which leads me to conclude Queen For A Day was around the beggening of Winter, around December. Or it could be earlyer than that and no one in the kingdom thought to question why was it snowing. Take your pick. Oooor, it could be by the end of winter, if that's so the writers failed to show us winter-ly stuff. I'm taking it that QFAD was by mid winter, around February, thus it was completley normal for it to be snowing. And we know "The Quest For Varian", "The Alchemist Returns" and "Secret of the Sundrop" were all quickly rushed, and that last one was by Rapunzel's birthday, in May again. What does that leave us? Half of February, March, April and beggenings of May. Roughly three whole months, and that's being generous with the show. Yes I am aware I ranted I am so sorry (not really, no) but I feel like Varian's neglegect is being SO overlooked.

I am SO glad I'm not the only one who felt that same way about how Rapunzel treated Cassandra in season 2! Everything that happened in the Great Tree could've been easily avoided if Rapunzel had LISTENED to Cass and used the spear to stop Hector. Hell, all that research about the sundrop and moonstone could've helped her understand how the two entities work and how to bring them back together! But NOPE! Rapunzel pulled the "I didn't had a choice" card when she clearly DID had a choice! And what's worse, she didn't even apologize for burning Cass' hand or not taking her advice! As for the 3rd season, she acts like everything's all Cass' fault for not telling her what was wrong. While that may be true for Cassandra's part, but Rapunzel is just as much to blame as she wasn't there for Cass and wasn't a very good friend to being with! She just acted like everything was fine when it was clear that Cass was still hurt from what happened and she didn't even bother to check up on the one person she considered as a sister! The whole point of being a friend is to be there for one another, no matter what, even if they say otherwise! I may have went a little too far, but the point is that I agree that Rapunzel isn't a good friend to Varian and especially Cassandra. If she tried to be more self- aware and humble, then I would say otherwise.

It doesn't matter what your intentions are. If your actions or inactions that you have control of results in someone getting hurt, then it's your fault because you started it. Rapunzel is an adult, she is NOT incapable of learning and her parents do next to nothing to correct her behavior. Heck, the biggest mistake anyone can ever make is not learning from them That's what Rapunzel is most guilty of. She doesn't really apologize to Varian about neglecting him nor does she apologize to Cass for never listening to her or burning her hand. People can like her goofiness all they want but if I had to choose between Rapunzel or Cassandra to be my friend, I'd choose Cass any day of the week because, like you said, she has more sense in her head than anyone in the series and at least, she owns up and is capable of apologizing which something that Rapunzel never does in the show.

Personally, i think that Rapunzel was the biggest culprit that Varian and Cassandra ended becoming villains, because she took notably bad decisions that leads them to Dark Side. In the case of Varian, even if i understand that she can't helps him during the storm, Rapunzel still didn't visits after the storm, despite to be clearly remorsed for this, yet she simply prefered ignored this issue and be more concerned for her art classes, as if Rapunzel prefered avoid deals with her problems, than faces them properly. Adding that i disliked the fact that Rapunzel didn't only failed in visited Varian after the storm, but also she didn't silenced nor discredited the falses rumors that the wicked Nigel was spreading, about that Varian "attacked" the princess (Quest for Varian), causing that Varian ended becoming a pariah in Corona, forcing him to keeps a low profile (The Alchemist Return). Adding that Rapunzel previously defended to Atilla, other of her friends from a crime that he didn't commited (One Angry Princess), yet, she didn't deals with the falses rumors and cleared the name of Varian, leaving him like a very hated person in Corona. And coupled with the seemingly lack of interest of Rapunzel to see Varian after the storm, caused that Varian developed a notably justified distrust in Rapunzel, leading him to lies her about the flower to saves his father. Adding that when Varian showed her the truth and stole the flower, he also called her out for abandoned him and leaves him to fends himself, yet Rapunzel prefered victimized herself and blames Varian for this, ignoring completely her own faults, even getting too far to treats Varian like the bad guy than a victim, despite to that she didn't even stop the falses rumors against him, that painted Varian like the villain, even before to stole the flower, showing how flawless is Rapunzel as character. In the case of Cassandra, even if many people critizes that Cassandra fell to Dark Side only for learned about her mother, it seems that many people ignores that her relationship with Rapunzel was already strained for this point of the Season 2, particulary for the events of "The Great Tree", in that Rapunzel chooses to trusts and sides with Adira above Cassandra, despite to the shady and clearly secretive nature of the former, as Adira was always a mysterious ally that was helping them, yet she clearly knows more about the black rocks, and still refused to talks about it, despite to be an ally, apparently. Meaning that Cassandra had justifable reasons to distrusts from Adira, especially to considers the dangers on the Tree, yet Rapunzel labeled the concerns of Cassandra like paranoid and trusted blindly on Adira. Even getting too far to treated Cassandra cruelly to practically says her that she is always right and Cassandra is wrong, showing that Rapunzel is very arrogant and hubris in some aspects. Adding that didn't helped the fact Rapunzel practically ignored any advise of Cassandra and prefered acts by herself, leading her to uses the moon song than the spear, causing that Cassandra ended with the burned arm and very resented of Rapunzel, leaving their relationship very strained, making easy that Cassandra ended as her enemy to learned about her mother. Adding that to insult to injury, after the Great Tree, Rapunzel had the nerve of put the blame on Cassandra for her injure and gaslight her as a meddler, showing that Rapunzel prefers blames others for her flaws than accepts the responsability. Making me think that Rapunzel brought herself the fact that Varian and Cassandra ended very resented from her, and became her enemies, as Rapunzel proved to be a TERRIBLE FRIEND.

I hated how the show made Rapunzel a selfish, angry, hot tempered tyrant in the show Disney Television Animation should’ve know better because in the Disney film of Tangled Rapunzel is artistic,brave,kind and free spirited but in the tv series Rapunzel is cruel, antagonistic and manipulative and maliciously aggressive towards the characters on the show

@@tyathedude Yeah to be honest I think Disney Television Animation went waaay too far with Rapunzel’s character to change her kind, free spirited friendly personality to a angry hot tempered tyrant on the show because she doesn’t apologize, she’s controlling, she’s bossy, she doesn’t care about her husband or her friends and family’s feelings and emotions, she doesn’t get help with her anger issues, and she’s also a toxic narcissist

Like fr- in the part of varian- he was crying and stuff bc his dad safe him and he is thinking he is dead or smth. BUT- ✨RaPUnZel✨ didn’t help him. Like- HE IS A 14 year old boy who need THERAPY. In 1:25 you can see his poor eyes begging for help. Just looked at his eyes and see what he is feeling. And yes. I do agree but in the end it seems she kinda changed but who knows? She does feel guilty but I agree but she could have send cass or eunge! (Correct me if I spell that wrong) plus in that one ep, he turned in a villain for a while because he just wanted his dad to come back and he wants his dad to be proud of him. In the part where he was going to jail, (when I guards took him inside that thingy misty cage or smth he said “I will make you proud” (I think) he can barely see he is mad or sad in his eyes bc varian all he wants is to make his father proud of him. Not everything is Rapunzel’s fault. As the video mentioned she lacks some social skills because she was stuck in a tower for like half of her life and Gothel barley gave a crap about her. I think the reason why she didn’t start talking to Cass first was because she was probably a little too afraid to since Cass is always so uptight about everything. Cass never felt like talking about anything especially when it came to talking about feelings. So of course it made sense that Raps felt a little afraid to talk to her.

She is also such a bad and toxic girlfriend to Flynn! She always lets Cassandra or anyone else always insult him while just standing there without saying a word, keeps secrets from him, draws his face on a punching bag just for Cassandra and never even apologizes for it, travels back in time to fix his personality, ignores him on the day of hearts and rejects his proposals several times even though in the movie she wanted to give up everything just to save him at the end, are you kidding me? This seems so out of character for her! And this whole rejecting marriage plotline is just a sign that they don't fit together and such a relationship could never work in real life and we shouldn't teach kids that it could, then little girls will just expect to much and end up in a divorce later in life! This just couldn't work! No self respecting man would put up with being rejected twice or would wait years to be able to truly be together with a girl if he really wants to marry her. And it just couldn't work if one person wants to get married and the other doesn't because then one person would always have to give in and in the series Flynn always has to give in, Rapunzel never does. And this just isn't fair or healthy! What about his feelings and his wishes? Why do only her feelings and wishes matter? In a healthy love relationship, both opinions should matter! And if they have such different opinions and life goals, then it just couldn't work! And then it would be time to break up! And no man would put up with this in real life unless he is a simp but Flynn wasn't one in the movie and according to his backstory he was an egoistical jerk before he met her, so it would make no sense that he could change from an egoistical player into a simp in such a short time and it's not good that Disney is sending little girls such a message. It's no wonder that so many relationships nowadays don't work out and end in a divorce or a break up if we are teaching women that they should expect that men would always give in and ignore their own wishes and opinions while the women never give them anything in return and instead act like they don't really care about them, put their female best friends always above them, just stand there while they are bullied constantly and reject their proposals several times! And it's so unfair because if the roles were reversed everyone would agree that this is toxic but if a guy is treated like that it's ok. That's such a double standard. And Rapunzel having trauma is no excuse, because he also has trauma. He grew up alone and unloved in an orphanage and on the streets and he always treats her right. This is just unfair and toxic and it angers me that people call this the healthiest relationship in Disney when it's actually toxic and when there are other Disney couples who are very healthy but are always forgotten like Tarzan and Jane or Robin Hood and maid Marian. And people shouldn't criticize the other princess couples for marrying so early when that is just how things worked back then when the stories are set. If anything they should criticize them for getting together so fast because back then people got engaged quickly after falling in love and there is nothing wrong with being engaged, you could be engaged for months or a year before marrying and they should have just done that with Rapunzel and Flynn. And he didn't even propose after a few days but after a few months, and for this time period that's an equivalent for a few years in our time, so it was the right time and she should have said yes. And the way this scene is framed, it looks like she wanted to say yes but then thought about how her life would be then and if that seems so horrible to her then she shouldn't be with him anymore! Flynn deserves better, he deserves someone who accepts his proposal the first time and who doesn't subconsciously consider marriage to be a trap. Whoever considers marriage to be a prison shouldn't even have a relationship! And two people who have such different wishes and goals just don't fit together and this could never work! And why is marrying framed to be bad even when it's after they know each other for months but sacrificing yourself for the other even when you have only known each other for a few days framed to be alright? If you want such a modern relationship with such problems, then don't bring in a scene in the movie when both are literally willing to give up their lives for each other after having known each other just for such a short time! And if you want to show such a romantic and touching scene where two characters want to give up anything for each other because they love each other so much, then don't ruin it later with such nonsense where she literally rejects promising to stay together with him and only to love him! It seems so ridiculous that they say she wouldn't give up her freedom for him, when she was literally willing to do that for all eternity for him in the movie! It just makes no sense! It makes that whole scene of the movie unbelievable! And why does marrying him even mean she has to give up her freedom??? It only means that if you secretly want to break up or cheat! It's just a promise to only love each other and to not break up anymore! And if she truly loved him, she would want that and not see it as having to give up her freedom! And it's just not healthy that only he wants that and this just wouldn't work and he's always treated so badly and not allowed to have a different opinion! When he has another opinion than her just once, then she travels back in time to fix his personality and people are seriously calling this healthy??? I know that wasn't her intention but she seemed to be perfectly ok with it at the end and acted like it's right that his opinion was altered against his will even though he was right at first! Flynn deserves so much better! It's also cruel that they changed his personality so much and made him so stupid! I refuse to believe the Flynn in the movie and the one in the series are the same character! It's just so cruel what they did to him just because of modern feminism and because Frozen made more money! But in my opinion they completely destroyed Flynn and their relationship and i wish they never made this stupid series in the first place! The story was over, there was nothing more to tell and they just ruined the beautiful love story of the movie for me and above all sent horrible messages like marrying means giving up your freedom or that a man's opinion shouldn't matter and that he should always have to change his opinions and wishes for his girl while the girl never has to make any compromises and always gets anything she wants and is worshiped all the time by her man while she never gives him anything in return and ignores his feelings and needs because they apparently don't matter! It's just not fair! And I will never forgive them all of that and never stop hating this series and I can only still enjoy the movie if I count this as not canon!

I agree sorta but I think you misunderstand some things. Like Rapunzel trusting Adira was her trying to make a more leadership position, since she will be the queen. And Cassandra sang Waiting in the Wings because this whole time she and Rapunzel were friends and seemed like equals and Rapunzel trusted her judgement and personalized the relationship, but Rapunzel putting her foot down was proof of what their dynamic actually is. Rapunzel is still royalty, so what she says is the final say, and Cassandra had to accept that through Waiting in the Wings, even though she knows she has potential for so much more than to just take orders from people

Okay, gonna go on a bit of a rant here, but can we just talk about the fact that she let the guards throw Varian- a literal 14 YEAR OLD- out into a blizzard that iirc they straight up said in the episode could be deadly? And then STILL DIDN’T CHECK ON HIM?? Like she watched them drag him out of the castle into a storm she knew could kill him and she didn’t think to go looking for him or send anyone else to do it to, you know, SEE IF HE WAS EVEN STILL ALIVE?? Not to mention that she didn’t do anything about the fact that her father sent the guards after him because he “attacked her” when all he did was beg for her help while on the verge of a mental breakdown, even if she somehow didn’t know about it until Varian mentioned it, why didn’t she bring it up with the king after the fact since she knew he hadn’t done anything? She says multiple times that she feels bad about not helping him but not once does she try to check on him despite him being a currently orphaned and emotionally unstable kid with no one else to turn to for support. I mean he literally admits during his villain arc that he knows what he’s doing isn’t good, and him saying “So now you care about what I want, and all it took was threatening the things you love.” While a pretty basic antagonist line, is completely fair in his situation. She didn’t help him even after her parents got back to the kingdom safely and her mom took over as queen again, and she didn’t even bother to at least check on him for months until he contacted her. As much as I like Raps (at least the movie version), the way she treated Varian makes me want to scream, he deserved so much better.

I feel a bit bad that the villain arcs in Rapunzel's show made some people feel bitter towards her. Making sympathetic, formally good guys swing against your protagonist and become villains is truly risky from a writing perspective since you run the risk of the audience siding with the villains, who have been emotionally invested in the formally good character now bad, because you got to know them first as good people first. And if their turn to the dark side is personal do to feeling slighted by the main character that may or may not be justified, you really need to execute that delicately and make ALL party's accountable and called out on their behavior... especially if you want them redeemed down the line. If fans go, I hate the main character now they are a jerk, something got messed up there. Rapunzel is a great character, I still love her in both the movie and the series and it's sad her series didn't give her character the glow up she is deserved.

Hasn't Rapunzel take over Gothel's personality? Perhaps Rapunzel tries to control it but sometimes fails. Quite a few people who are former childrens abused suffer inherited toxicity from parents. Difference between Rapunzel and Gothel is does gaslighting or doesn't. She can usually check it, but maybe can't when get really out of hand. See from Rapunzel's standpoint, as for Varian, Rapunzel would feared bomb of Varian's failure so she was kind of agree with people say Varian is dangerous. but Varian points out to Rapunzel is bring black rocks dangers (Perhaps he thought he and rapunzel are not so different), Varian also implies Rapunzel may have to sacrifice herself for being Sundrop (He sayed this out vaguely, it was may his kindness at least). Rapunzel agrees and following her fate for save people. And as for Cassandra, Rapunzel must have believed she can do better than Cass did, that was a perfect disaster. But it's not strange that anyone might think Rapunzel disrespects Cass. I think Rapunzel aware it and wanted Cass back no matter. Also, Rapunzel must have notice that Cass resembles Gothel even unconsciously. Not sure what effect that had on she dealt with Cass though. I used to not like show is proceed by how bad Rapunzel did, now I changed to enjoy show that pros and cons of characters make. (Sorry for edit. I wanted to fix poor English but I can't)

if Eugene had told Rapunzel that she treating everyone no better then Gothal treated would she start to listen or better yet if her parents try talking to her and counseling her more to make her a better and smarter person would she be alot wiser and admit she was wrong and learn from her mistakes?

Initially I was able to buy Rapunzel not understanding how the world works and having trouble socializing and whatnot since you know, she was trapped in a tower for 18 years. But as the show went on, it became less of that and she went from a flawed yet likable character into a character who never gets called out for bad things or mistreating her friends *Cough* VARIAN *Cough* And hot take: For the most part, Cassandra was in the right in the Tree episode (And I hated Cass’s villian arc and found her motives confusing and stupid)

@@TooningIn2008 Well it wasn't just the fact that Gothel left Cassandra behind. And when cass hand melts instead of Rapunzel apologizeing like a big girl for once instead she pots like a selfish baby cause cass didn't want to put aside how she felt cause it was convenient for Rapunzel she is so unlikeibel in this show and she makes people scared to DARE question her design's or she'll harp at them and she never apologized for yelling at cass Rapunzel is a spoyeld brat ho is rude to her parents and rolls her eyes wen all cass wants is to protect her but when gotel was being over protective she's all sweet and says " Yes mother" this is why I don't like rapunzel

Honestly, this is just more evidence, to me, that Rapunzel is autistic. As someone who is autistic, I see a lot of the same qualities that Rapunzel has in myself. With strangers, I'm very much like Raps in the movie. I'm compassionate, kind, always wanting to help people out. However, with people I think/feel like I can trust? I act very similarly to her in the series. I hate confrontation and sometimes avoid saying things to people that I've upset (mainly out of fear that they're still mad at me and don't want to talk to me), I say things that often get interpreted as being a bad friend (even if it's out of love on my end). And yes, Raps has awesome character in the movie! And yes, her character in the series is very messy. I see that as Rapunzel learning to unmask her traits (especially after being under Gothel's abusive hand for 18 years), but she's doing so at the worst possible times. Granted, no autistic person should feel/be forced to mask, but sadly, it's how most of us survive in a mostly allistic world. By the end of the series, Rapunzel does realize her mistakes in her actions, which I greatly appreciate. She's had her little social lesson, and she has learned from it. I've experienced the same thing. I've thought I knew how to act in social situations, and turns out, I didn't. And I had to learn how to act around people, even around other autistics like myself! I've had plenty of Cassandras in my life, who got sick and tired of how I acted with them, even if what I was doing was not meant to upset them, and those friends turned on me. I had no idea I was upsetting them, because they never said anything. They just assumed I was doing it on purpose, and they ended up growing to hate me. There was no communication from them on their end, so how could I have known I'd upset them? I couldn't have possibly known. It's why Rapunzel feels so betrayed when Varian and Cass turn on her, is because she didn't know she'd upset them, and there wasn't communication between either party. Cass and Raps tried to talk it out, but it obviously wasn't enough. But here I am, rambling about my hyperfixation LOL Varian and Cass are the best. That's all I have to say on that lmao

I doubt she's autistic because of her behavior. Not all autistic people define her actions
@DragonGoddess18
@DragonGoddess18 Год назад
@@Disneyfan82 Much less defends her actions. Whether she really is on the spectrum or not,it doesn't matter. Eugene,her parents and Cass did little to teach about how the world works and Rapunzel doesn't really want to learn (much)

@Disneyfan82 Год назад
@@DragonGoddess18 I hate to think if this is how autistic people are defined by Rapunzel's behavior in the show which is rather stereotypical to mention or bring up. I may be autistic but I'm not this ignorant when it comes to reading people or understanding their feelings.
