This July (2020), I had to put my 17 year old dog Dodger down. Needless to say, I was a wreck and crying all the time. It just so happened that "Crybaby" was scheduled to be released a week after Dodger's passing and it just felt like the universe was sending me a message. Now, a little bit about Dodger. He was a min pin mixed with something else but we'll never really know. We bought him off of a drug dealer on Venice beach in 2003. The guy was asking $200 for each of his puppies that he was selling from his inside coat pockets, but my mom only had $75 cash. I was a young kid but my mom sent me up to the drug dealer and asked if he would take the $75. He agreed and told me "hurry up and pick one and walk away." I grabbed Dodger and walked away so fast, heart racing and a huge smile on my face. Dodger was the most amazing dog. Everyone always says that about their own dogs but I seriously mean it. He was a lover, an aggressive kisser and a perfect little specimen that gave his all for 17 years. I couldn't have asked for a better dog growing up. Anyway, I decided to get a teardrop tattoo on my finger to not only honor the release of a song that means a lot to me, but I got the tattoo in Venice Beach at The Ink House (we got Dodger just outside of there) and in Dodger blue to honor his life and death. The two events coincided in a way that felt right and important. Hope you enjoy this DIY video (shot by Sam Brawner, edited by DAKMPA) where I get my tattoo and toast to Dodger on Venice beach, where our journey started.
