Mental health facilities for children need more talk, and less concrete blocks.

I've worked in residential facilities for kids with special needs and behavioral challenges, this facility looks very well designed and I wish them the best

Yeah, those seclusion rooms aren't for the sake of "lack of stimulus." They're to isolate any kid the staff don't want to deal with, regardless of whether the kid is dangerous or not (not that even children who pose a threat deserve this). I've seen patients thrown in a seclusion room because they were crying too much (in a PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITAL, there's an arbitrary limit to how much you can cry). As someone who was abused in a child psychiatric ward and is now considering nursing herself, all I have to say is: love them while they're angry. People, particularly children, don't want to misbehave. They're suffering. Don't sit and "wait for them to calm down;" don't "let them cry," because I am telling you, that is perceived as abandonment.

Real at one point while I was there a girl I was friends with got manhandled and dragged to that room then they shut the door after shooting her with Ativan even though she was just sitting there. Next morning she comes out during breakfast she comes out in a assload of pain and bruises on her arms because of them.

Do you guys ever wonder where the teenagers go? They go into the rooms that have absolutely nothing A hard rough bed. And this smell of the rooms in the air is just awful. It makes you nauseated. The food is bad. And personally, the staff are bad usually, sometimes, sometimes they're nice and sometimes they're not so nice. I remember one time I had taken my medication. For bed. And I went into the bathroom and. Didn't realize it was like that. I'm minute before I was about to fall asleep 'cause we might medication makes me sleepy. So I started going down and I couldn't make it back to my bed. I had called for help and instead of helping me walk it back. They picked me up and grabbed him by my arm and placed me on the bed and they started grabbing me and my arm started hurting because they were grabbing my arm so hard. And I was like, oh, you're hurting me. And they didn't listen, you know, they were like, oh, you're fine. You're fine. And sometimes my medication happens. it kicks in so fast that I can't breathe.

It’s true. I was in a mental hospital. A girl severely injured her hand and the staff denied her medical treatment

I understand they want to reduce stimulation, however, it would seem that music or sound of a television would help the child to at least focus on something. Being in that padded room would drive most people to become quickly escalated. (Just one person’s opinion)

“whether they can pay...or not”. Man, this video makes me said again that the USA doesn’t have universal healthcare. I am sad whenever I remember that fact, but especially through this video; as a sufferer of childhood/complex/chronic developmental, emotional, and physical trauma, myself, I know that psychiatric help and intervention for children is extremely important.

I was in the Akron childrens unit for 2 months, helped a lot. I reccomend sending ur kid to childrens hospitals that have psych units. Sending them to hospitals that only have psych services are dangerous. Especially if they are for-profit

At least they are making the effort. Back in the 1960s kids did not get treatment like this or any other unless I guess you were unbelievably rich or came from Rich parents. If you had a parent murdered, it simply was not talked about. Ever.

The parents are the ones that need admitted into psychiatric care for not properly raising and taking care of their children. Don't believe their stories that they are great parents and have done everything they could. Also, don't let them collect all the tax benefits or any other financial benefits on children they didn't or aren't taking care of.

What makes you think children don't experience mental illness that has nothing to do with parenting?
