I very much enjoyed this restoration. The final product looks beautiful. BE CAREFUL!! this likely will not work again. Paint on the ceramic won't take the heat, it will burn and at the very least smell bad if not ignite. Plus I did not see insulating washers (I think they were mica washers) re-installed where the terminals for the heater come through the copper reflector. If they are missing you would have a dead short across the copper reflector, and you would blow a circuit if you plugged it in. I understand that this is merely for decoration now, but others should be aware and be safe.

Even though i admire the restauration work and the quality of the videos, this is a HUGE NONO for me. You should NEVER restore electrical devices in such a way; with mains connector attached, while the device is shorted. If you restore electrical devices, omit chord and or main connector AND actively and safely interrupt mains IN the device, so even if someone would add a connector and try it, it will not cause any accidents.

@w2kify

Very well restored but in my opinion you should have just left the wire out or made it deliberately non-functional. As it is now it's incredibly dangerous and will either short circuit or catch fire (or both) if someone accidentally plugs it in. Ignoring the voltage difference, there seems to be nothing isolating the live wires from the coil from the copper reflector, so it'll just take the shortest path across and hopefully just blow the household fuse.

Good idea. Safety first! But I would disconnect both lines in the plug so that there is no voltage in the device. The heating coils are not properly covered and the housing is not earthed, which is very dangerous.

☹️.... you restored it, but didn’t replace the electrical insulated washers - then put a lead/plug on it and stated it will be/rendering it a shelf queen, with the additional risk that someone who likes restored vintage things to be useable will plug it in and burn out the nichrome wire and be electrocuted - at least replace the nichrome wire with one rated for use with modern European power output, and replace the electrical insulation washers, so someone will have the pleasure to plug it in and use it 🙂

Sorry, but you should never restore like this. It is NOT safe. If the device is shorted, you should safely interrupt the power supply to it IN the device AND omit the chord and mains connector! Suppose this gets to someone that doesnt know. You had no opportunity to tell them. It just so happens that they shorted out the fuse, bc old house and out of fuses or malfunction and someone plugs it in. That means the wires will be on fire instantly; the leads will fuse together, etc all the way to the switchboard. And if its a child, good chance it will panick and you will find your house burnt down when you come home. This is a NONO m8.

Radiant heat lamp. These were mainly intended for the bathroom when stepping out of the tub soaking wet on a winter's day. You have to be in direct line with them to feel the heat. They heat the surface of what they are pointed at but do very little to warm the ambient room temperature. Like a hot fire. Feels good as long as your standing near it.
@StofStuiver
@StofStuiver Год назад
True that you feel the radiation mostly, but all energy, radation and convection goes to heat. In fact, since these were often 1 to 2 kw, they were big enough to heat a small room like a bathroom. Its not a lamp btw. Those did exist too and were popular in the 70ies mostly, as IR. This sort of thing is called an electrical heater.
