Rare Beach Habitat and Live Music at the Beach

Shoreham Beach is a Local Nature Reserve (LNR) and May is the best time of the year to see the flowers that grow in the shingle. We had a lovely afternoon here and ended up at the café listening to live music by Richard playing his guitar in the sunshine with his beautiful dog by his side. I hope you'll enjoy this one. What a lovely outing with Ky. So wonderful to hear live guitar music on the beech. We have also been blessed with beautiful weather over Sunday here in West Devon, and Madge enjoyed her zoomies with her friend Dobby dog yesterday. She had a lovely cool off in the shade in the field, and then came home and had wonderful sleep. Cold but dry morning here this morning at 5.00am when she got me up for our walk. Blessings to you 4 (you, your husband, Ky and your beautiful cat) from Jilly & Madge. xxx

I'm so glad you enjoyed it Jilly. It's a very rare habitat and wonderful to see in May when the blooms are out, it looks so pretty. It was nice to sit with a drink listening to the music, I love to hear him play. How lovely you get up so early to take Madge out for her walk and it's nice to hear that you had a nice time with your friend yesterday and Madge enjoyed her run around. Oh yes indeed Fiona, the morning wasn't very nice, but after lunch it became quite hot and so we figured the beach was the best place to go, and so glad we went to see the flowers. May is the best time to see them on this beach, it's so pretty. Always nice to stop off for a drink and some live music too. We are blessed. Thank you for watching 🥰xx

We are so lucky to have such a rich shingle habitat as it is very rare on a global basis. I had to look up tree mallow very recently in my wild flower book after spotting it on the cliffs. Lovely video and a great time of year for shingle vegetation.

I love wild flowers especially valerian, there is a white version. I think the Romans introduced it here, they used it as a medicinal plant

Lovely, extraordinary landscape. Have you ever read Derek Jarden's book, 'Modern Nature'? He had a cottage on the Kentish coast similar to this landscape and made a wonderful garden out of the stones and seaside plants!

Oh no, I've not heard of that book Andrew, I'll have to look it up; sounds very interesting. The landscape here is amazing, especially in May when the blooms are out and the sun's shining. That's a stunning beach Lynn .Why do we not restore more beaches like that .I would be interested to see how the one in Brighton is coming on now .

@@lynnb_and_ky_springer_spanielthey are trying to encourage shingle habitat by the boardwalk west of Black Rock opposite Duke's Mound area but it seems slow to colonise last time I looked down there..
