Our A6M3 c/n 3148 was built by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in September 1942. The A6M3 Model 32, with squared wingtips had the official Allied reporting name Hamp, with the A6M2 and later A6M5 (featuring rounded wingtips) being known officially as the Zeke. Despite this, the name Zero, derived from the Japanese designation Type 0 Carrier Fighter (for the last digit in Imperial Year 2600) entered the American public consciousness during the war, and has stayed there ever since!
