The problem with the price in Germany was that it was not sold for 49$ as it was released. 49$ was at that time around 150 DM. But the c116 was sold for over 300 DM. So they doubled the price. That is also one reason why nearly nobody bought it. Similar to the c16. It was sold for much higher price then it was designed. That it also why the c16 was only successful after it was abandoned and sold for a lower price then original planed. (planned was c16 for 79$ = 210 DM. But it was sold for ~350 DM. So nobody bought it since the c64 was available for 600 DM. So better sound and 4 times memory space for less then double the price. The c16 was successful after it was sold with a tape drive for ~150 DM. (Only the tape drive was sold before for around 100 to 150 DM!).
Thank you for the important information! Totally overpriced until they started to sell them trough Aldi. Do you also know how much the ALDI price was and what years? Thats how i got a Plus/4 back then.
@@GeorgesChannel I bought my c16 at ALDI. If i remember correct for 149,- DM. I think it was in April 1986 (since my first "Comute mit" magazine has the date 4/86) and I am sure i bought the c16 before that paper.
