This was the transition-hand off era of the Congas from Jungle Boogie to Mickey. Early in the show you can still hear the crowd saying Jungle Boogie but Footz told Mickey in order to personify yourself you gotta become unique and that's what Mickey did. The Drummers Beat was the one groove that separated Mickey and made him not only his own style apart from Jungle Boogie but then separated him from the remaining Conga players in action back in the mid 80's. This was the turning point. Jungle Boogie had a certain beat for every R.E groove except the drummers beat. After Mickey R.E and the rest of the bands now had a certain conga beat to this groove. Almost 40 years later....did you hear what I said??? 40 years later that conga beat still sticks.
Bro you nailed it. Rare Essence was at their absolute best when Benny was on the mic. After 85 they were just not the same. Benny was the best lead in go-go period in my opinion.
I’m in Annapolis at home and it’s 1:30 am and I got my earphones on and I’m chillin. It doesn’t get more “crankin” than this. I was 21 and having a all back then. Times were a bit more kind . If I could turn back the hand of time……..
@@gogojunkie2792 you ain’t neva lied my brother This crank never gets old I sit up late at night and put my earphones on and zone out, sometimes goin back in time)mentally) and remembering the fun at all the go go spots Mine was “Evans Grill”, just to name a few
@@gogojunkie2792Bruh I'm confused...Where did they actually play at? I have this on CD, and it says@Robinson St. 1984, but this says@Annapolis Marriot 1985
Yesz Sir!!! Definitely an Essence Classic that you had to have. This had to be one of their most dubbed shows. You needed a Maxell 90 or 120 gold😂 Just something bout Benny (RIP) on Lead that relaxes your s takes you back to the good days of DC.
Funk put ‘em the Groove too but he had a more Mellow flow. Benny (RIP) on the other hand was the Maestro and the Conductor. He got the Crowd More Siced Up and the band Rocked a More Hardcore GoGo sound and beat when he was on lead Vocals
