A GWR HST is seen arriving into Slough station with the horn stuck on 43029! After around 10 minutes of constant blaring, the horn was finally repaired and the service (1W01 10:22 London Paddington - Hereford) eventually departed. Enjoy the horn fest!

This is actually quite a good example of how station PA systems adjust their volume automatically depending on station noise. You can still hear the PA announcements despite the stuck horn
@weeardguy
@weeardguy Год назад
Hard to tell as camera-mics are not like human ears and are rather directional most of the time and most people tend to use automatic volume control on their camera (or whatever they use), which means that as soon as a louder sound reaches the mic, it will lower ambient sounds. We have such systems in place in The Netherlands as well, but in my opinion they always utterly fail ;)

Well, one thing he possibly could've done was isolate the horn, if I'm correct there's a way you can do that on the HST's, I believe it's in the footwell..? I may be wrong though.. plus I doubt GWR would've thought that (stuck horn) would happen often, so probably may not have told much about it and how to help it? I'm not too sure to be honest, that's just my guess...

According to rail engineers of America who have experience with this a lot more apparently their is a florescent that dies it down. If this fails they can try re routing the switch to the sander to see if it is a switch issue. If not then their is a cut off that can't be triggered until the train is out of service and in a depot as all trains on main line track must have working horns.

In my corner of the world if the horn is broken, which usually means it doesn't make a sound, the train must be withdrawn from service at the next station. Did this thing run as long as London Paddington with the horn constantly blowing indeed? The driver must have had a blast. 😀

It would normally be the same here and the train would be taken out of service. However, the driver managed to fix it whilst the train was at the station so it was able to continue it's journey.
