1961 - May, Marilyn arriving at the christening of Clark Gable's son, John, May 1961. Regardless of the print insinuations that Marilyn had brought on Gable's heart attack by her delays during the filming of The Misfits, Kay Gable made an extra effort to make sure Marilyn would be a part of her and Clark's son's baptism. Kay Gable had also written Marilyn while Monroe had been hospitalized at Payne Whitney and Columbia Presbyterian for depression. It was supposedly Marilyn's reaction to Gable's death that had convinced her psychiatrist, Dr. Kris, to have her stay at Payne Whitney.

I know almost nothing about Kay Gable but from what little I've read here and elsewhere about how she made it publicly clear she had nothing against Marilyn it's obvious that Mrs. Gable was a remarkably gracious and thoughtful and kind woman. I'm glad such people are in the world for the good they do and the example they set.

I loved them all, those great actors that gave us so much...I do not care to read or hear about their problems..we all have them ...but remember them for all the great entertainment they gave us...... what a fantastic period in our film and television history..Bless them, faults and all...I love them .....

I'm curious about the date in May of the baptism as I was born in May of '61. I saw once that the baptism was at a Catholic church and I wonder if Clark Gable (who was married 5 times and at least once to someone divorced and was himself divorced 3 times and widowed once) was brought up Catholic, had converted, or was simply married to a Catholic. I believe that at that time if someone Catholic married someone who wasn't it had be with the written agreement that any children would be brought up as Roman Catholic. Maybe someone else knows more about this and can share it.

Andrew Brendan - John Clark Gable was baptized Catholic because his mother, Kay Williams Gable, was raised Catholic. After the deaths of her husbands, she returned to the Catholic faith which she couldn't practice when she was divorced herself and also married to previously divorced Gable. Interestingly, in Clark Gable's biography, he was baptized Catholic after his birth. But after his mother died, when he was very young, his Protestant father did not carry through raising him Catholic.
