I live an hour's drive from Chicago and have been in the Art Institute more times than I can remember. It was only on this last visit where I attended a lecture that I noticed this plaque that said, "On this location in 1893 Swami Vivekananda delivered his speech to the World Parliament of Religions." I heard about this event in history and only a few years before had I been introduced to him and Sri Ramakrishna. Sometimes we read about history, but it doesn't seem real or it exists as abstraction until it is touched.

I wish to attain mahasamadhi like Vivekananda and all the great sages did. Thank you for such a wonderful video.

There was one American aristocrat (Mrs. Hale) who took pity on Vivekananda on the night of September 10, 1893 when he was shivering and homeless the day before his great speech to the Parliament of Religions. He hadn't properly planned his expenses on the long voyage from India and across the Eastern USA. She saw him from her window sitting across the street on Dearborn Avenue and invited him into her home. It would later become his HQ in Chicago. Swami Vivekenanda was forever grateful to the Hale family for their kindness and generosity in his time of need. He would later write to them more than to any other Westerners but one.

Last month i have visited that Hall in Chicago, where this historical event took place. Its a small hall. And 70000 people can't be accommodated. In your Vidio you said 7000 people were present in the hall. Its request.

That's what the great Swami Vivekanandji had so meticulously articulated in the World Meet on Religions held in Chicago, USA in the year 1893, amid thunderous applause from the delegates gathered there from across the globe !

Dear Gentle People, there are some glaring errors in the video. I would hope that Swamiji's story is told while adhering to Truth - as he would want it. The real story is quite stunning, miraculous, and awe-inspiring all on its own. No need to make stuff up - just tell Swami Vivekananda's story as we know it and can verify what is true. Here are some examples: The Video says: Swamiji, "found himself walking on the cold streets of Chicago… with no money for food or shelter.." and the video has a scene of snow falling and a digital thermometer displaying -9 degrees. He arrived in Chicago in the Summer, which would have been sweltering hot and humid and he had enough money to buy a train ticket to the East Coast. The Video says: After Swamiji's opening address and saying, "Sisters and Brothers of American, he received thunderous applause from the crowd of 7,000 people." John Henry Barrows , one of the organizers of the Parliament, hired stenographers and put together a two-volume chronicle of The World’s Parliament Of Religions. In it, he records not only the speeches in the order they were given, but often the audience reaction as well. The hall for the opening sessions had a seating capacity of 2,500, with standing room for another 1,000. At 3:28 in the video they use a small thumbnail of a photograph, which many books used to show Swamiji on the stage at the Parliament, for instance, Life of Swami Vivekananda, 2nd Edition, published by the Order: But a comparison to the actual photo to the doctored image of "Swamiji" confirms that the person in the original photograph is actually Narasimhacharya, who was one of the delegates from India. I hope Part Two leaves out the exaggerations and myths and sticks to the remarkable and true story of Swamiji bringing Vedanta to the West. Thank you, Jai Ma
