I love these old Diamond P telecasts with Dave McClelland and Steve Evans. Many fond memories of going to the US Nationals each year and seeing these drivers compete.
Born 69 but Im grateful to have grew up at OCIR. Great time to be a kid running around the pits but yea I think we all miss this America. Especially now. Everything is screwed up.
I was probably surfing at Newport cali when this race was going on. I sure did love NHRA drag racing back then. The following year in 1979 I started racing Motocross at Saddle Back. I was 15 years old.
Sure do miss what used to be drag racing. Racing with no BS. Wow a whole 1/4 mile. Look at all those old people walking around and those chicks! Grandmothers today. RIP Steve
I was two, my daddy was in prison, my momma worked two jobs .....and these were the happiest days of my life. My first menories s are of Cha-Cha Muldowney winning my mom's some money one year in the early 80's, it was a good Christmas that year.
Ross Gerken what a machine!! 10,000 rpm small block Chevrolet All over the place on the starting line Brings the Corvette back in the groove goes 9.97 for the win with a engine under 300 cubic inches. Best class in motorsports history
When i was a kid like under 10 i won a truck at a raffle in church..was a 1976 bonanza and i had to wait 6 years to drive it .....i never let it goe ..it still drives me to the stores and out of town for fishing trips and hiking trips ...im from California....best truck and i had a few
Love these old videos, funny thing; First person they talked about was Andy Mannarino crashing "his Mustang pro stock car" (Actually Gapp & Roush owned) years later (1994-2002) I worked for Andy Mannarino in his engine shop in Detroit years after working for Dick Arons & Wally Booth (1984-1989) Sadly we buried Dick Arons earlier this year...
My dad was the owner/driver of the TF that didn't fire up at the line first round about 8 minutes into the video. I showed him this video. He said he set the valves up on 6 instead of up on 1. There wasn't any way it would have fired up. He is still mad at himself after 40 plus years.
Interesting commercials. Unlike today, not many food commercials. Pretty much beer, motor oil, and car rentals. Today, along with bing 4 times as many commercials, every other one is McDonalds or a pizza place.
It's mind boggling, that there have been present day, street legal cars, that have run faster than the nitro cars of 78! Love the commercials too... It's funny as hell to see how bad they were, the year I was born!
They had them back then also, they were just the village idiots and no one payed attention to them. Problem is they kept breeding more idiots and here we are today.
Yup....... they've destroyed everything: Families, sports, religion, abortion, schools, etc... truly disgusting what has happened to our once GREAT country in 1978
These were fantastic times, and the paint jobs on the dragsters and Funnys that was real paint jobs is just incredible compared to todays ugly vinyl coated and also boring shaped funnycars .
Top Fuel funny car has come a long way from quarter mile (1320 feet) speeds of 240.To today's funny car on a good run at the 660 foot they're running 276 mph and 337mph at 1000 foot.
It's weird that after several minutes of watching, You forget this was 40+ years ago and Your right back in time. It all seams modern, the fashion looks normal and it doesn't feel dated. Anyone know what I mean ? And just think, Biden will be Your President in 2021. Well that ruined it.
@@bbbildhuu Funny how You snowflakes steal things like "snowflake" and elections. You forgot Your own PC insults, I'm a boomer snowflake. Ugh, they are stupid.
I grew up at the dragstrip's of So-Calif, we used to just laugh at Billy Meyers, cause that boy went through more part's than any two other fuel racer's combined! 😆 Oh well, Billy was a rich kid, guess he could afford it 🤷🏻♂️ Was so happy to see a true Baddass Wheelman in Dale Pulde FINALLY WIN a big-time drag meet! He has too be, to this very day, the most underrated FC driver Ever! 💪😎👉DP
Amen Dale Puldes beautiful War Eagle was one of my fav cars. I grew up with dad at OCIR and never missed Sat night or match races. 64 funny cars and jet cars. More than miss the good ol days of raw racing.
