Fatone1927 Conkers isn't really rare, just extremely popular. Just like Super Smash Bros, its one of the must have games on the N64. I remember when I was in middle school seeing advertisements for CBFD all the time, was a really hyped up game. Definitely not a rare game but a Rare game ;)

Snatcher definitely on of the more rare games I have too and one of the games we definitely need to have re-released at some point for sure
@rahjeel
@rahjeel 10 лет назад
Hey AlphaOmegaSin Im gonna be going off topic here, do you think Bloodborne is just a Nightmare Creatures reboot that never came to be? Seeing as you are big on horror games, I'd like to see your opinion on the "rehashed"(even though unintentional by the devs) setting and gameplay that actually already existed 16 years ago. What if someone decided to pull Nightmare Creatures out the IP grave and give it a reboot, will it be the one copying Bloodborne or is it still the original even though its quite underwhelmingly received when it comes to popularity?

best thing about snatcher is that you play it with a control pad and a light gun both plugged in at the same time, cant really get that feel any other way but with the Sega CD system

Rule of Rose on the PS2. An often overlooked survival horror game that just keeps going up in price.
@Dongled
@Dongled 10 лет назад
Rare should not be defined by price, as the word rare has more to do with being scarce or hard to find. For example, Earthbound IS NOT rare. Anyone with a credit card and the expendable cash can pay $120+ loose or $400+ for the complete in box set. Earthbound is expensive. Not rare.
@capostatus937
@capostatus937 10 лет назад
why do you think people will pay that much for an old snes game. Because it's not that easy to find.
@Mitcellie
@Mitcellie 10 лет назад
The reason its so pricey is because its not common. If super mario world was boxed with limited copies circulating, itd probably be $400+
@Fate2010c
@Fate2010c 10 лет назад
Rare games are often pricey because there are less in circulation compared to other games. Its easy to find any game online as long as at least 1 person in the country is selling it. If you look at a video game price chart, the cost problem has been made worse by people controlling the market. Game prices were relatively steady for hard to find games at about 60-100$ at most for game only. Since 2011/2012ish the price on everything has shot up by double or triple. The less common a game is the easier it is for assholes to buy and then resell games to shape the market in their favor.
@Carsonj13
@Carsonj13 10 лет назад
Mitcellie Sales have a lot to do with it's "rarity" as well, and there are plenty of people who go on about how they saw "piles of Earthbound boxes" in their stores back in the day, and how they wished they had bought them so they could sell them online. Earthbound didn't sell well, so it's hard to find USED copies at random stores and/or online. There ARE a lot of "new" copies in existence, the game just sold significantly less than what NoA had hoped.

I think my rarest game would be Mega Man: The Wily Wars for the Sega Mega Drive. They only released this game here in Europe and it goes for 400-500 Euro (625 Dollar, round about) now. its absolutely crazy. I bought it back in 1993 if im not wrong and its still in almost mint shape. i really want a copy of earthbound too though! they never released earthbound here in europe :(

samuel kidwell, not really. I remember a few specific parts, but it has never hindered my experience with the game. It will soon be on the Virtual Console, along with Gargoyle's Quest II, so I'm glad more people will get to try them out.

Matthew J. Boone That's great. But I'm sure you know as well as me that there is nothing like playing the game on the original console with the aged yellowing controller on a box tv. One day I'll be able to afford the physical version, but I'll get the digital in the mean time.

I have a few rare items in my stash of games, but was in for a shock when I found Zombie Nation for the NES. I grabbed it up for 2 dollars. I was not only surprised by what people want for it today, but that you are a severed head leveling buildings and shooting fire at enemies. I knew nothing about it but was happy to see it is a collectors favorite. Thanks for the video, stay happy.

The games I own that I consider "Rare" don't worth a lot of money . However , I think they're because not a lot of copies were sold . The best seller barely got 600K copies . I'm talking about Mad World , Sin and Punishment , No More Heroes 1 & 2 and Metroid Prime : Trilogy . Except the last one , one can find these games for less than 20 USD . Even the trilogy has dropped in price since Nintendo released it digitally . I know the Wii , and Wii U , aren't the cool consoles to own , but these are great game , and it's a huge shame that not a lot of people got to experience them ...

Cool vid, Johnny! I was pretty surprised at your rarest game being Darius Alpha. Crazy! The rarest, most expensive game I own is Hyper Duel for the Saturn. It's gone up in value quite a bit in just the last couple of years due to it's obscurity and low print run. Pretty awesome shmup too. $350+ according to eBay. Honorable mentions can be Blast Wind for the Saturn, and a sealed copy of Border Down for the Dreamcast.

At one point I had a MASSIVE game collection, with a whole host of hard to find or just coveted games. Sadly I had to sell the entire collection about eight years ago to fund a move, but probably my RAREST item wasn't even a game itself, but a console. A lot of people forget that the Atari 7800 wasn't only released in 1987, but had a short run a couple of years before that, right on the tail of the 5200 and before Atari's big sell-out. There were only about 5000 consoles manufactured during that first run, with the rainbow logo the opposite direction from later ones and the expansion port fully intact. I managed to find one, not knowing what I had, at a yard sale for five bucks. As far as games? I've always collected because I wanted to play a game rather than collected for rarity itself, so I've made some pretty boneheaded deals in my day, like trading my original black label Final Fantasy VII for Riven and Masters of Tera Kassi on the PS1. ...Don't judge me. Frankly, I find the prices on retro games right now rather ridiculous. Yes, the hardware and cartridges/CDs are a lot rarer now than they ever were back in the day, but it's a really strange market where the contents of the cartridge is only a very small part of the item's actual value. Games like Earthbound are a perfect example of this: even the most die-hard fan of the series would have to admit the game itself isn't worth 800 dollars. If it were, Nintendo would be charging that on the VC. And it isn't even really the contents of the box, either: Infocom had far cooler boxes and contents back in the day, and you don't see their games going ridiculous like this. It's just... strange. I do wish I still had my vintage copy of FInal Fantasy now, though. That thing's overpriced too.

Probably the rarest games I own are the boxed, complete amiga games I own. Its difficult to determine the exact value of each game, but they seem to go from anywhere from 40-100 dollars. One game called Archon: the Light and the Dark I have been told is worth over 200 dollars but I have not been able to confirm this. I got all of them at a flea market last week for 5 bucks each.

I don't own these but some of the rarer games I know of are: Nintendo World Championships 1990 (NES) Was released as a grey plastic version (90 total) and a gold version (26 total). In 2005, a grey plastic version sold on eBay for over $6000.00. In 2009, a gold version sold for over $17,000.00. Nintendo Campus Challenge 1991 (NES) One copy sold on eBay in 2009 for over $20,000.00 Air Raid (Atari 2600) The cartridge, alone, has sold for over $3,000.00. While the cartridge is rare, the box is extremely rare. Only one has come up for sale in a twenty-five year span. In 2010, the game with box sold for over $31,000.00. I don't have values for these but Atari 2600 games like Chase the Chuck Wagon and Tooth Protectors are also rare and, often, pricey.

This is why I stopped collecting video games. When i first started collecting I could get a complete majors mask mint for $60 and now its like $150. Hell Clayfighters sculptors cut complete was only like $250 or $300 now you'd be lucky if you could find the cart for that game. Part of the charm of retro gaming is the fact we could get a bunch of awesome games for a decent price but now its cheaper for me to go to gamestop and get a stack of xbox 360 games then it is to collect for some of these systems. I'm hoping soon that things will get back to normal, but honestly it's getting to the point where I just feel like giving up on this hobby it's just way to expensive now a days.

When GameStop was phasing out their used cartridge based games around 2003-2004, I bought every NES and SNES game I could afford, no matter what it was. The most I paid for NES games was around 10-12 bucks. I ended up with several HTF games including every Mega Man game for NES, Dragon Warrior IV and a ton of classic SNES titles. The real gem was Bonks Adventure for NES, and it wasn’t until maybe 10-12 years later that it was brought to my attention that it was worth a lot of money. Since I had no real sentimental attachment to it, I sold it to a kid on eBay and bought myself a Nintendo Switch and a few games for it, and it also paid a good amount towards my Yamaha LL 16. That was a good find that paid off well.

It's also funny how earthbound is worth so much now when it was so easy to find back in 1995-1997

You ever pick up a game that you thought would be very rare, but it's not? I had that happen to me with some PS2 games lol. I don't know what the rarest game I own is, I am sure if I actually looked into it I might have a few. I seen some videos on Soul Blazer, looks like a really good game. Great video Johnny.

Valkyrie Profile, I never imagined it was going to be worth so much. I also got my hands on the JP version of the game recently, it is nice having both of them on display next to eachother.

Some cool stuff here. I've loved Soul Blazer since I first played it as a kid. The Suikoden series is really fun too.

I think the rarest game in my collection is Power Stone 2 for the Dreamcast. Honorable mentions for Contra Hard Corps and Ghostbusters on the Genesis. Although if you count non-games, I also have the PlanetWeb 3.0 browser for the Dreamcast which I've seen go for close to $100.

My "rare" game for me would have to be Namco X Capcom for the Japanese PS2. It cost me 80 dollars when it came out new and it never came out in English. The game took me 108 hours to finish and I remember having 4 hour play sessions. I've played all the big games since the NES, but I feel that the experiences are the most valuable. A game is nice to look at and to own, but the memories and the feelings these games evoked are just priceless.

My rarest game must be Evolution 2 (complete, as new) for the Dreamcast PAL. NTSC version is common but PAL version is impossible to find.

Rarest Game? Simple. GoldenSun and GoldenSun: The Lost Age. Almost nobody knows them, but they are the most awesome games I've ever played. Thank you, Game Boy Advance!

Outlaws for the PC. Recently found out that there weren't many sold copies and that it's a more obscure title. Pretty fun game, recommend it to any 90s FPS fan. It's also not very expensive from what I've heard.

Hey man, you should consider putting you factory sealed games in plastic boxes, or at least into those plastic baggies. I use 14mm DVD bags on all of my NES games. They aren't bullet proof, but they will protect them from scratching and scuffing when bookshelved.

One of the rarest games I know of, and an odd one at that is Outback Joey for the Genesis/MD. Only about 1,000 are believed to have been made, even better you can't even play the game with a normal controller, only the special one made for it. It was part of some kind of wellness health thing. Special looking console for it too but that is just its outer shell, its still a normal Genesis/MD underneath. There are only two videos of it on here too, they pretty much never appear on eBay or places like that from what I have read. You have some really special games here I have to say, pretty cool.

0:25 Tough Question... Rarest Game would be either *(cib) Bound High for Virtual Boy [US]* but that is a non-official production run of approx not more than 150 copies! Otherwise it would be *(cib) StarCraft 64 for N64 [PAL]* with an official limited print of 5000 copies worldwide. And lastly would probably be *(cib) Mega Man X3 for SNES [PAL]* also a quite limited run here especially to get it in my local language (German) but I have no official numbers for this :( Financialy I would list up also (all cib and at least 300€ each): • Mega Man 7 [PAL] for SNES • Mega Man X2 [PAL] for SNES • Chrono Trigger [NTSC] for SNES • Conker's Bad Fur Day [PAL] for N64 • Mega Man IV [PAL] for GB • Mega Man V [PAL] for GB • Mega Man - The Wily Wars [PAL] for MegaDrive • Blackthorne [NTSC] for 32X • Panzer Dragoon Saga [PAL] for Saturn • Mega Man [NTSC] for GameGear • Rockman Collection [NTSC-J] for PS1 • Harmful Park [NTSC-J] for PS1 • Judgement Silversword - Rebirth Edition [NTSC-J] for WonderSwan • Rockman Battle & Fighters [NTSC-J] for NeoGeo Pocket Color

Wow the sealed Metroid is a beauty. That game got me into "hard core" gaming. I owned an Atari 2600 and used to play a decent amount, but I never played any game for 8-10 hours straight like I did Metroid.

I managed to build a complete copy of Earthbound earlier this year after 2-3 years of searching for a box, manual and inserts at decent prices.... I also happen to own Suikoden II as well after I found it in a shop nearby a few Christmases ago, and my parents were cool and bought it for me as an xmas present :). I do also have Rodland and Surprise at Dinosaur Peak, two of the rarest NES games here in Europe. However the rarest games I probably own are Metal Slug X and Metal Slug 5 for the Neo Geo AES (both English versions, and if you are aware of Neo Geo collecting, English versions are ALWAYS harder to find). Bought them many years ago and I shudder to think what they would go for now.

I found a Sega CD game at SAVERS Thrift Store complete in great condition for 2 bucks. Its called "Vay", a JRPG localized by our beloved Working Designs. What a fluke that it was just hanging there amongst random electronic items in the store for $1.99. Crazy.

I happened upon a big box PC version of Star Wars X-Wing Trilogy. X-Wing and TIE Fighter is a box set that's pretty common, and X-Wing Alliance is even more common, but the full trilogy in a single box is pretty rare. $2 at Goodwill ($70 on Ebay - if you can find it)! ALWAYS check the board games, lots of big box PC ends up there.

I don't have many games I would consider rare. If I had to pick 3 I'd go with; 1. Metal Slug 3 AES (Official USA release) brand new/mint 2. Sengoku 3 (Official USA) brand new/mint 3. Complete NES Black Box set (These are the very first 30 games to come out here in the USA. They are the ones with the pixelated image on the black background. I'd say Donkey Kong JR. Math cib/mint could go as high as $2500 to a collector, the Stack-Up in the larger box with R.O.B. attachments could go for $1000+ as well. Not super rare, but as new collectors are coming onto the scene trying to get all 30 these are sure to become harder to locate.

Great episodes. Way cool having Darius Alpha for the PC Engine, yes it goes for quite silly prices. My rarest titles would have to be some of my MSX titles, I am lucky to have Zanac Ex, Aleste and Aleste 2, they are all worth a few hundred each at a minimum. I also have complete copies of some of the MSX Bee Card titles, they are actually rarer number wise, but don't go for as much as the titles above.

I found a Caltron 6 in 1 cartridge at my flea market. Bought it for $2 not even knowing it was worth anything. The funny thing is the dude initially wanted $3 for it and I started to walk away. He then said OK $2 so I bought it. It sat on my shelf for about 6 months until I decided to look it up xP

The rarest games I own are probably the original RYB Pokemon Games, however I do own a Super Nintendo with quite a few games, and a bunch of very old PC games that may be a little collectible. It may not be all that rare, but I always thought Super Street Puzzle Fighter II Turbo was such a great under appreciated game for its time. You can play it now on various things like the XBL arcade or playstation arcade, but I remember setting up a super old Dell PC just to get it to run, and to show my friends. If you have not played it I HIGHLY suggest looking it up on youtube.
