The pattern on the rims was designed for better braking grip in the rain....given the brake pad material back then..... Newer pads work better in the rain....
Isn't it funny the things we do when we get old? I'm in my 60s now and I've considered doing this. I love fixing up old bikes and have a few at the moment, maybe this is the route to go?
