Rare Westinghouse Teardrop Bell at Dreamworld, Queensland

2018 Update: Unfortunately, this bell has now been removed.
While visiting the Dreamworld theme park on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia, I noticed that they had a very rare Westinghouse Teardrop bell (painted red) protecting a crossing for their internal train "The Dreamworld Express". At the time, this was one of only two surviving crossing bells still in service in Queensland (the other is also within Dreamworld, but is located next to the main station. It still operates to this day).
This crossing is situated inside a tunnel that is themed to look like a natural cave. The gates used in this setup are manufactured by Magic Door Industries of Queensland and are intended for use in parking lots.
For some reason, the lights and bell deactivate after the first carriage has cleared the crossing.
Sorry about the poor quality of this video. I didn't have a tripod at the time and had to do the best I could without any preparation. But hopefully it's enough to get an idea of this unique setup with its very special bell.

Nice video and interesting find. It's no wonder the bell sounds terrible, it's ringing too fast and beating the heck out of itself.

Was at dreamworld about a month ago. They’ve actually put the teardrop back in service. It still rings fast though

Nice find and video! I almost wonder if the lights and bell shut off when they do to keep from causing the passengers problems.

poor bell needs some love what did the front say? westinghouse or mk&h?
@Chris-xk3bp
@Chris-xk3bp 7 лет назад
All Westinghouse teardrop bells say "McKenzie & Holland Aust" on the front because they never changed the mold when Westinghouse took over Mk&H.

+Nolman0001 i swear that there is on on the puffing billy line with W logo on the front, at the station by the lake. runs real slow.

I know the bell you're thinking of and it is definitely a Westinghouse. However, I don't recall seeing a WH logo on the front. I've never seen a teardrop bell in Australia the doesn't have "McKenzie & Holland Aust" written on the front.

@@Chris-xk3bp what bell is up there currently or is there even one
@Chris-xk3bp
@Chris-xk3bp 5 лет назад
@@ThunderboltFan2000 There's now an industrial Maine grade bell (designed mostly for use in dockyards) made by Moflash mounted on the side of one of the gate mechs. You can see it at 18:41 in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Q6c6I0cJqbU.html

So it was removed? Did anything replace it?
@Chris-xk3bp
@Chris-xk3bp 5 лет назад
The entire cave structure was removed and the bell was taken away with it. A marine grade bell made by Moflash (used mostly in shipyards) has replaced it. You can see what the crossing looks like now in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Q6c6I0cJqbU.html

What's the difference in this one and the Mckenzie and holland bell
@Chris-xk3bp
@Chris-xk3bp 7 лет назад
Nothing really apart from the logo. Westinghouse took over Mckenzie and Holland so they were made in the same factory with the same parts.
