Ras Kass realised he was being fed main-stream-education horse-shit and had his awakening, this man is way too underated....One of my favorite albums ever, cos it has all the ingredients a rap album of the 90's should have, it broke the mold, 5 years after this album, hiphop/rap changed forever, some half-decent shit here 'n' there but 96/98 is where it peaked....IMO, opinions vary....

the song ruined hiphop for me in that THIS is where I wanted hiphop to go, I wanted rappers to SAY something, and it took about ten more years for me to realize that to actually put knowledge into songs and spread ideas (rather agreed with or disputed) was not going happen and I just couldn't listen to commercial bullshit anymore.

I remember first hearing Nature of The Threat back in the mid 90s and this song came out and thought to myself this was the greatest song ever written because it was based on facts and he gave a historical timeline from the beginning to the end!! Some of the things I was already aware of at this time because I never believed the history I was taught in school at a young age and that was because I always investigated what I felt I wasn't being told and always asked questions but he opened a lot of people's eyes when he dropped this and ruffled a lot of people's feathers with this one because he didn't hold back the truth. They were calling him the west coast version of Nas at this time and I personally believe this song right here is why the industry kind of blackballed him from going mainstream after he released this. You would have to go with Tupac's Brenda's Gotta Baby and Nas New York State of Mind(both true poets) to find songs that's on the level of Nature of the Threat, hell even KRS One Sound of Da Police(and KRS was the teacher) which was also a classic, but none of them give you a historical timeline in a lyrical format like Ras Kass did on this song.(And that's saying something because Tupac and Nas are considered the GOATS in hip hop) This song actually dropped 2 and half weeks after Tupac died in Vegas which caught a lot of people by surprise because 96 was one of the greatest years in Hip Hop releases of the best albums!!

3:35 is where he described his methodology. He used several European and African history books, philosophy, etc. I know a lot of people want to try to debunk each line that he wrote, but the point where his History professor told him, "you're not supposed to learn that yet" sealed it for me. History teachers are usually teaching a romantic view of events. There are historical documents by Europeans actually writing about what they did in eradicating the Indigenous people on this side of the world. They were so bold, they weren't hiding this information. The best place to hide information is to put it in a library. Do your research people.

@Righteous Shadows Dojo The Thanksgiving bit might be the least founded part of the entire track. The fact that a historical even happened on the same day as another historical event/yearly celebration is correlation and it isnt causal at all. There is not historical record of Pope Innocent VIII declaring a yearly holiday Thanksgiving in 1491. If you can find any references to prove me wrong I would love to hear them and change my mind.

I got my degree in history, and had many teachers that were assholes, some were true enlighteners and some just hated for their own personal reasons. History is more powerful than one can ever imagine. It's not about remembering dates and times. It's about learning from those before us. Like the, phrygians, hittites, babylonians, mesopotamians, urartians, egyptians, myceneans, going back to the 5,6,th and so on centuries B.C.E. I used to tell everyone and still do that the first people were dark skinned with african ancestry. Jesus is always portrayed as white, which is a fallacy. In the end we are all one. Man has always been the downfall of our own demise. The negative man will try and bring others down, in all aspects. ( back in the day was slavery, up until the industrial revolution. Using immmigrants chinese laborerers to build the roads. Then blow them up right after to not have to pay them, feed them, oversee them. The bracero program of the 40's 50's. Followed by equality movement for allin the 60's (martin luther king)..And now we have Trump....what a transition. Lets all strive for intrinsic illumination...Together as one...Now that what transcend and have the capacity to make OUR new history.. stay great everyone...

Sure, that's the narrative here. . . that he's somehow being denied entrance or being lied to, but look into the Grimaldi man. It's more art(subjective) than science(objective) and that is why it was discredited. The archaeologists who worked on that project(many many years ago) were rounded criticized for their work and how they recreated the skulls. There's a very good reason for that. If people require these lengths, simply to prove "their truth", then it's a fair bet that it's false.

I'm gonna be honest & contradictory at the same time. Ras Kass is an okay rapper and SOI is just a decent rap album, but definitely nowhere near the top of the list of one of the best hip hop albums of all time...…..y'all agreed?. Now Nature of The Threat...….. is hands down THE BEST ALL TIME SONG, OF ALL SONGS WORLD WIDE in the LAST 20,000 YEARS. Ok, ok maybe I stretched it a little by saying 20,000 years, but definitely the LAST 2,000 YEARS since the death of the BLACK JESUS OF NAZARETH. Its a jewel, a historical masterpiece. Some people might say he killed it, nah, nah its more like he explained and KILLED the concept of white supremacy, so accurately. When I first heard this song back in 1996 it felt like I was holding and reading a new version of the Torah, Koran and Holy Bible; all combine in one; and the knowledge was just slapping me in the face, with the words & beat banging it all into my ear drums. I was left there just standing numb, with my jaw dropped & mouth wide open but no LONGER DUMB.

Part of me wishes he had stayed a bit longer to ask the teacher what he meant. "You're not supposed to know that yet?" What does that even mean?! He didn't tell him he was wrong. And he could have just left him in the dark without saying anything. I wonder if he meant that there was an order in which the information was best received that would allow him to put his new knowledge in perspective. Or something like that. The way a young pitcher can ruin his arm trying to throw sliders and curves before learning a proper fastball? Or how you need to get the mechanics of a basic lay-up down before you start trying floaters high off the glass? Maybe he was actually a good teacher trying to school Ras Kass, but being young and impetuous, he left before he got his lesson. Oh, well. What was meant to happen, happened, I guess.

Had he stayed, the prof would've likely reminded him that the Grimaldi man was reconstructed using methods that essentially invalidated the entire dig. It's a great example of destroying data. The archaeologists actually sawed through the jaw bones, which had been crushed and deformed under the many tons of sediment covering the skeletons, then placed back together in a "best guess" type scenario. It's fiction and they were openly criticized for it. This is not how one arrives at "truth". However, if you're pushing an agenda and a narrative, it works quite well.

agreed, every race has their devious, greedy people, who make life worse for others. I'm mixed so I've seen racism from all angles and I'll tell you, its the sign of a lesser person.

Jay Pharoah You have to know that race is a social construct. The melininate people used their DNA mixed with other animals to mold the various cultures that we see today. This was called the Great Words. Genetic Engineering. Albinonism was strange to the original man because all humans were various shades of brown. They know that if a child come through the woman's womb without any melinin...the vibration of that soul was off. They thought... out of natural order...not different race.

No. It's fine to know truth, but he'd got it wrong and was being called out on it. Grimaldi man is rightly criticized because it is more art than science. Art is subjective, not objective. This is the case of a kid with a little bit of knowledge getting called out by someone in authority.

The Grimaldi man.
