@Busy Bodies! when I was a child a person's family may tell them that ain't it but not some stranger on the street. If anyone tried to tell my granny what to do she'd say when you pay my way then I'll entertain your opinions otherwise keep it moving. And that was her being nice; if you caught her on a bad day she'd let you have it nice and brutally honest. I want my people to thrive economically and make their own decisions about how to express themselves. When people feel better they do better. Not having all that stress would really change things in my community.

We used to communally correct and support each other and this new new mentality of I’m me and you’re you don’t tell me anything is a separation and apart of the bigger issues we have. We’re. It a monolith, but let’s not be ok with not holding each other accountable. I don’t understand why when we talk about the big things I don’t see comments about this is what we should be talking about. Talk about it all. Having your own businesses and becoming financially stable all go hand in hand with presenting your best you. Feeling good about yourself sets you in a productive mindset. It’s why there is a posture you’re supposed to have before even praying. Wash you face and come before God. Success for our people is a multifaceted process. Let’s respect the little issues as well as the big because the little issues can affect the big.

I’ve been in the airport and young beautiful black sisters are in their pajamas with bonnets like they rolled out of bed and came to catch a flight. I’ll say it again for the people in the back, if you don’t respect yourself, no one else will. This piece of wisdom can be delivered simultaneously with all the other things going on in the world. I don't think the brother knows what a bonnet is let alone, what Monique was trying to point out. As my late father use to say, their is a time and place for everything. Going on a airplane, cruise, concert hall, award show, even a sporting event was exclusive at one point and time. People who attend these events, dressed up and looked their finesse. It seems when it comes to our people, we don't give a dam anymore. The same outfit you wear to the club, you are wearing to church. The same outfit you wear to go to the supermarket, you are wearing to go to the airport. But yet we want the same respect as other races, who knows the difference between wearing the appropriate attire for the appropriate occasion. Wakeup people?
@alteredpenguin2073
@alteredpenguin2073 3 года назад
The bonnet debate is so easy but people feel like they should not be told what's appropriate. Ladies wear your bonnets but there's a time and place for them. Monique said she saw a female at the airport with a bonnet on. Now, it's that ladies right to wear what she wants and no one should tell her what to wear. Yet, there should be some pride in how we carry ourselves in certain places anf situation. You can't tell people what to do but you still in the same token can't tell people how to react and feel about you based on how you look and on how you carry yourself. I agree with Monique and for anyone who wants to bring up white people and how they dress. I think they need to follow suite and dress accordingly to the time and place to where they are.

This was a horrible take in what Monique said. His analogy was horrible as well. No we shouldn’t be sagging and no we shouldn’t be wearing a Bonet outside the house. Saying there are number of things she could have said is silly. She can say wtf she wants she not obligated to speak on any particular topic. Why are we now defending bonet wearing in public and sagging pants. Just say you have a problem with Monique. Dude sounds like a hater.

Which way we going? Sounds to me like it's just a bunch of people dodging accountability for bad behavior and using the words "lifestyle","Choice" and "Preference" to get away with it.

And folks accuse our gender (women) of being catty, vindictive, and petty af. While the guy on CH does hold relatively decent interviews sometimes…this “bait and switch” line of questioning he does is so shady, and OBVIOUS. The man he’s interviewing is the one who started running his chops just like an old mouthy queen about Paul Mooney(may he RIP)…and started some bullshit for which I am quite sure…he got a check for in return for gaslighting Paul Mooney before he left this earth. While I DO love our people…flaws and all, I just wish we weren’t so quick to cut each other down when IT’S NOT WARRANTED. What does this chatterbox/gossipy old queen(yeah, I said it😆😆😆) have to even DO WITH Mo’ Nique???? I’ll tell you what…not a damn thing. Of course we all know, as well Mo’ Mique… that the topic of bonnet wearing in inappropriate places isn’t a life and death issue; that’s a NO-BRAINER…RIGHT?? Of course!😂😂😂. It was just a topic for that particular time. Now, it’s on to the next… Conducting really solid, decent, RELEVANT interviews is one thing; but REACHING, LOW-KEY INSTIGATING, and “POKING THE BEAR” (trying to start shit) is very unprofessional and juvenile at best. The guy on this channel really needs to step it up, and stick with investigation, instead of instigation. 🙄🙄🙄

Would Monique be ok with a woman older than her saying “Show pride in yourself. Stop promoting open relationships. You can do better.” Older people can’t dictate what younger people take pride in. They can’t dictate what makes them feel good. The sentiment is there. The presentation/messenger missed the mark imo. If you don’t agree with or like bonnet wearing outside of the home that’s a YOU problem. If you feel like someone who wears a bonnet outside of the home is less than, that is, again, a YOU problem. It’s just fucked up it’s always what black women/people make popular that’s looked down upon until other races do it.

You can control your own personal image but you can’t control how others will view you. If you simply don’t care, then go ahead and do you. But a lot of people want to do whatever and have people be ok with it at the same time. When I was growing I was raised with the mentality of “ don’t make us look bad” with the “us” being the general black community. Obviously bad is subjective. I think we all contribute to our racial image, but once again if you don’t care then do you.

@Kendrick Lewis let me just say this brother (I’m assuming that’s what you are). I’m not so afraid of Covid to the point where I feel more comfortable with seeing my sistas hide themselves with cover up in order to prevent transmission 🤨. The European straightening of the hair is a little irrelevant to a sista choosing to wear a bonnet or not. Reason being is that the people who are making those suggestions are not suggesting them to straighten their hair. Keeping yourself up in a presentable fashion isn’t seeking validation. It’s holding yourself up to a standard of greatness. When an OG is giving you that game, it’s coming from a place of love and experience. You can either soak up the game or keep it moving. Simple
