Brother,im 70 years young. I look in the mirror, realize my time is nearly done, then i put on an obscure rock song,or even mainstream, close my eyes and im 17 again playing in a gada davida and suddenly im not so lost!! Im glad we were part of an era of music that has never been nor will be equaled!! Rock on brother, Rock on!!!!❤❤😎😎😎😎
Im 69 in 9 days. 3/4/1955 Can anyone tell me a greater period of time than the 60s, 70s, and even the 80s. The bands are way too numerous to try and name. I know we are prejudiced but seriously name a time period better. There is no one that has replaced the ones that either died or retired. No one. If you listen to music nowadays its probably been tampered with electronically.
I know what you mean, I'm 72 ,I just got back from Vietnam and heard this song for the first time. I was a professional drummer and toured and recorded with many popular groups of the day. In 73 I had the honor of backing up Jr walker, Archie bell and the drells , and the temptations . A 16 pc union band backed all 3 acts. It was an afternoon jazz festival. Later that night a bunch of us saw the raspberries I think it was the whiskey a go go. They were fantastic . Fighting cancer now, I would give all my tomorrow's to go back to those days. How blessed we were to have lived through that era🎉
Bill, thank you for your service. I have confidence that you and medical technology will be successful in battling cancer. Sending positive healing your way. Stay strong.
I just heard he passed. I listened to a couple of his songs, and was transported to a much simpler time. In this case, the Summer of 1972, and I was about to start my senior year in HS.
I saw the Raspberries in Baltimore 1972. Actually went to their hotel room with my friend. She actually hooked up with Dave. I sat and watched Shenandoah with Jim (ouch...not the greatest movie to see with a stranger). Eric came in with a girl in a fur coat. Wally walked in and out doing laundry. The next day, I went back to the hotel. I believe it was Jim and Dave came out wanting to go see, I believe it was, Dave's uncle. I knew the address and they trusted me to take them, which I did. I swore I would never sell that car.
I love the music of the 70s. No other music can compare. It meant something. The kind of music to relax and unwind, or get down to it. The lyrics were moving and told a story. I listen to it as much as possible .
I was only in the 8th grade, but started listening to 70s music way earlier in age. I remember watching my older sister and my aunt who were a couple years apart getting ready for school (high school), putting on thier makeup and listening to the raspberries, Redbone, I fell in love with the music.
But there are some singers who sound better live than others. Pulling off strong vocals live is a little more difficult than in the studio, where vocals can be enhanced through production-and these days autotune.
I am fully confident that if we took EVERY one of our sad, lost young people alive today and sent them back to the '70's or even the '80's for a 6 month stay, they would come back different. Happier, alive, hopefull. Things werent perfect, but our music alone, still had some Magic in it. It was easy to believe in Magic at the time.
People have been killing themselves for all of humanity. Music won't change that. Sometimes, it even induces people to get stuck in painful romantic notions.
It's 10.30pm Tuesday night 12/03/2024 and I've just flicked the T.V. over to Ch 9 in Sydney. They were showing The Raspberries "Go all the Way" I thought "Why are they playing that?" "Is Eric touring soon?" Then I thought "Oh no he hasn't died" "Has he?" My fears were confirmed by the news voice over person. "Eric Carmen was 74" Now I can't stop crying. Not only did Eric help create one of the greatest, mind blowing Guitar riffs in Rock history, he then composed some of the most tasteful Ballads of all time. Good quality Ballads are extremely hard to write. Thanks for the great music and the brilliant singing voice Eric. Eric lived a successful existence and died peacefully in his sleep. "Come on Baby!!!" RIP - Eric Carmen
Omg! What crap! I've played professionally for more than forty years and EVERYONE lip synced! You weren't allowed to play live. And I can't believe the amount of people who think what you wrote is true lol
I had the biggest crush on Eric Carmen,,so Good looking..I was 12 then 1972.. crazy times crazy years..everything was so simple in the 60s and 70s..I'm 61 now and I still appreciate the good music back then,, and definitely no autotune,,which w asnt a word back then,,they called it live music...
Lol of course. The 50's and 60s layed out the framework for these guys. Anyone that calls themselves a music fan knows this. BB king, all of em. All of these bands came from them. Just in a different wrapping. Same thing.
Lot of crap in the 70s too....lot of bombastic arena rock that quite honestly was just that, equivalent to pop music crap today....lot of great music as well. One of the problem is that rock radio became like top 100. When wplj and wnew in NYC were at their peak you heard a lot of great music. But then they narrowed playlists and albums suddenly were tailored to play lists ( Jethro Tull was the classic example of this later on). Remember too that most of the bands you are talking about got their start in the 60s. Punk came out of the 70s, and helped create later generations of alt music ( punk itself was a reaction to corporate rock). There always of course were the A and R mafia or Rolling Stone trying to make rock into classical music or something, but the 60s had a lot more experimentation I think. Part of it was FM radio in the 60s was an afterthought,AM top 40 like WABC were the big deal. So FM radio was kind of free, stations like wnew FM and wplj FM were playing all kinds of music. ( Funny story, wplj was originally I think WABC FM, fcc decision said FM stations had to have their own call signs. They let the staff at what became wplj decide, bunch of the jocks and such got together one night ( on who knows what)..wplj came from a now obscure song 'white port with lemon juice tastes fine....Dave Herman told stat story). 70s also gave us Disco and 'music' like England Dan and John Ford Cooley, Air Supply, 10cc and the like too...great scene ( one of the few) in 'Vinyl' is a producer getting coked up bc he was due in studio to produce an England Dan and John Ford Coley album *lol* ( that and Led Zeppelins manager raging about the record label being sold to a German company).
This is the first video I've seen The Raspberries perform live. A great performance, lots of energy, the guitar riffs are outstanding. These guys really put their heart and soul into their music. I only wish I was old enough in the early 70s to see this group in concert.
There is a great live video of them on Midnight Special (1973) performing: I Want To Be With You. They were four kids from Mentor (High School) Ohio who helped to create Power Pop Rock.
I love this song that I could listen to it over & over again. Eric Carmen wrote his first song at 12 years old! He also wrote songs for others. When he went solo, he did really well. “All By Myself” & “Never Gonna Fall In Love Again” are good songs. He’s very gifted.
RIP my friend 😢 You will be sorely missed. From a friend of the olden days of our Cleveland times. I still remember and always will, you playing this ❤
It’s amazing. He sounds as great live as he does on the studio version. I think he actually sounds better live. May he rest in peace! I miss those days.😢
The song doesn’t sound like the record and that’s called talent. These guys are really playing and Eric Carmen is really singing live. No lip sync, no auto tune. Just pure kick ass rock and roll. This is how it’s done. There will never, ever be music, or musicians like there was in the 60’s and 70’s. RIP Eric.
The Raspberries were one of the bands that played at a local club we went to about every weekend. The Chesterland Hollabaloo, so many bands came through there. Great times.
This guy has a mid-range tone in his voice that is extremely rare and he can rough it up smoothly on the spin of a dime -- bet he could knock out a hard rock tune with the best of 'em!
Eric Carmen has his own channel here on RU-vid - pretty much all of the tracks from all of his recordings are there. Yeah - he flips from smooth ballad singer to rock screamer effortlessly - I never cease to be amazed at that! It's a real wheelhouse skill that he had! I love those hidden gems like "Inside Story" and "Spotlight"!
Live version was pretty good, but listen to the studio version. It's got the rich backing vocals (perfected by the studio overdubs)... It's more refined, but still rocks and highlights the beautiful harmonies. This is one of my all-time favorite songs.
Got a lot of Elton John ( Saturday is all right for fighting) guitar , The Beatles. ( Come on , Come on) and The Beach Boys Harmonies all rolled into one cool track.
The individual parts of the song are not exceptionally difficult to learn - but try playing all of this live, with four people. All those chord changes, key modulations, harmonies, dynamics. Holy Cow, it is REALLY a challenging song.
@@Physics072 Because back in the day, a front man had to be a legitimate singer and the rest of the band had to be great musicians and back up vocalists...
RIP Eric🙏🏽🎸‼️My Brother, Jeff turn me on to the raspberries in the 70s then later on your solo career “I love both” You ROCK‼️You have joined my brother‼️🙏🏽🎸
RIP Eric Carmen. He passed away tonight - March 11,2024. He was a fantastic singer and will be greatly missed. I was just watching some of his RU-vid videos last week. So sad. 😢💔💔🙏
Eric Carmen was so cute. Miss the 70s . Inocent times back then we all wore crazy stuff it was so cool. I love this song . Good Memories. Ty Eric/Raspberries.👅💋
This is my "go to" song when I am dragging and needing inspiration and energy! It is a FANTASTIC song and always will be.....no matter what decade it is!!!!! I love Eric Carmen!!!!!!!
Remember seeing the Raspberries in the Cleveland St. Joseph High School gym. Eric Carmen had gone to High School not far away in Lyndhurst, Ohio. The show was incredible. The girls went nuts!! Great great times 😁
This song is a chronological mindf**k, and I mean that in the best possible way. The chorus sounds like something from the late 50's, most of the rest sounds like it's from the late 70's/early 80's - and it was all from 1974, I believe. Haunting and unique, I never tire of hearing it.
I played this song in a cover band at age 15 in 1973 and still play it today. It’s one of my favorites and I feel lucky to have come of age when this song was brand new.
If you want to improve singing skills, RU-vid KennTamplin, THE best vocal teacher in the country, I studied under him in my late 50's, tried out for The Voice, got accepted. Check him out.🎵🎶👍🔥
This Rock masterpiece is complete perfection. From beginning to end all the elements perfectly balanced. Great guitar riff, melody, bridge, climax and cool down outro. ❤
Real talent! Eric Carmen was/ is an incredibly talented singer-songwriter-musician. Something that is missing a lot from today's push-button digital-age, IMHO!💡🎸🎵🌈
Never heard of this or the Raspberries, as it did nothing in the UK. Fast forward to 2019, and I'm sitting in a bar in Jacksonville FL, & it came on the juke box. It stopped me dead in my tracks and I had to walk over to the juke box to see what was playing. I can't understand for the life of me why it's unheard of in the UK. it's awesome!
Here's another great song from the Raspberries, also live, performed years later: "I Wanna Be With You" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XhpgjGYIYjk.html
Agree. I thought this song was from 1974. This masterpiece was released in 1972 and reached number 5 on Billboard's Top 100. This song is almost 50 years old.
I like this music very much,Eric and Wally are great, your voices are beautifual. Ilike Wally playng,he is very good, singing and dancing,he is amazing....always happy. Good time!!! Maria Lúcia...Ucha
