I like this build. But can i request that you get a little more specific in the wiring. Some parts you state " just wire it to ____." But don't show or state how to wire it. I really want to do this since the A+ came out, but do not want to risk wiring it wrong and possibly burning out the unit.

This is my 3rd video on the subject, I can't make the same video 3 times, some things need to be skipped otherwise RU-vid sees it as a duplicate upload and get's deleted, you can check out my other 2 videos where you get more details, if is something that you don't feel sure just ask and I am here to help

So how long did this take to build? Also, what if you have never built something like this before or soldered electronics before.
@Adamstech

If you never soldered, make some practice solders on a pcb and take your time, it can take up to 1 week or so depending on how many hours you put a day, I can build one in 3 - 4 hours

That power boost module is rated at 1A you will barely be able to have enough current for the pi to run retropie with that and you will be getting the lightning bolt symbol at boot and when you are running CPU and power hungry games. You need at least 2A for this build.

How hot does this build get? How many mah does your battery get and how long does a full charge last?
@Adamstech

It gets a bit hot, but some tweaks in the clock speed and you can keep it down, the battery has 5000 maH and it's run time is around 4 hours of gaming now depending of your load.

Brother, been waiting for a tutorial like this for years.. Pi3 in Gameboy.. So any ideas of getting HDMI out?
@Adamstech
@Adamstech 5 лет назад
In this configuration is not really possible, I think the dpi configuration makes the hdmi unusable, I have to look into it!
@AngryRamboShow
@AngryRamboShow 5 лет назад
My screen that I used in my custom handheld uses a 5 inch screen with a hdmi port, like a regular monitor. So I found a handy diy part for that, *"5Pcs HDMI Type A Male 19Pin Gold Plate PCB Socket Solder Connector DIY Part."* And I just use thin gauge wire. You can find all sorts of ways to connect a screen to a Rpi.
@WilsonBradleyTheOfficial
@WilsonBradleyTheOfficial 5 лет назад
@@Adamstech Currently the way I have RetroPie and Stretch build is, HDMI detect , then uses a different /boot/config.txt file .. Not sure why an HDMI out wouldn't work. They have small male to female HDMI extension cables.
@WilsonBradleyTheOfficial
@WilsonBradleyTheOfficial 5 лет назад
@@AngryRamboShow I didn't understand this one..
@AngryRamboShow
@AngryRamboShow 5 лет назад
@@WilsonBradleyTheOfficial Well, I don't think Rpi 3 can do 2 monitors at once, so you have to pick either spi or hdmi. But if you want to set up a screen that has hdmi in, you could use 2 of those HDMI male connectors to neatly arrange everthing inside a small case. I suggest using those HDMI male connectors because with some thin wire and 38 soldering points you can custom fit the cabling to your exact specifications.

Adam Builds Hi, I am actually doing something very similar, and I plan on using an adafruit powerboost 1000c to power my rpi 3a+ too. What do you mean by « you need to tweak the voltage » ? That’s a really nice build btw, I would love mine to end up looking like yours !

@@w2ex215 Hi, I mean to underclock the Pi, but instead of using the 1000C try Helders PSU, or you can go with this a cheaper one MP2636 Power Booster & Charger Module, you can find it on Pimoroni.com, this one works fine as well!

hey I built this but Im having a yellow bolt appear and the gameboy randomly resets. I was wondering what you did to underclock yours?

You need 24 gauge wires, and just wire another rail of power to the back of the pi, not 5v from the DPI, last batches of DPI need this in order to work, I let Tinkerboy know he has it in his website now at guide section. Have a look there
