This lesson shows a cool trick where you can send the output from your Linux command line commands to a file instead of to the terminal window. This is very useful when we start scripting or automating commands.

People talk to much and complain too quickly. Do and say what you want. This has all been a great review and I thank you!

I have been going through your videos and wanted to say that the way you explain things and really break it down for newbies is great. Plan to move onto Python next. Thanks

As a 33 year old software engineer but first time pi user. Excellent videos. A little slow paced for my liking but comprehensive. As a teenager, I would certainly have wanted you to "get to the point" . But otherwise this is really top notch. Thank you.

+John Smith When I was trying to learn this stuff, I found lots of help and tutorials for people who already know what they are doing. What I found missing was a real "hand holding" tutorial set for those who have no background. That group was the target for these videos. There are plenty of fast paced tutorials, so I did not try to hit that segment.

Paul; I greatly appreciate yr stuff, including yr cat and dog stories. I have both cats and dogs (border collies), and thoughgh my cat hasen't eaten me yet, I'm keeping a wary eye out... You appreciate encouragement? Yr subscriber list indicates 123k subscribers also appreciate yr effort. Evidently two of them do not! Nuff said! Keep up the good work . Hopefully it pleases you as much as it does the rest of us. I'm working my way thru Arduino lessons (# 28) and working diligently on 'C' to learn it as well as Python when I get there. The plan is to do some serious programming in the future so yr work is of great benefit to me. Got my RaspberryPi up and running and am in the process of installing Ubuntu-Gnome on another machine as we speak. An AMI BIOS problem is making this difficult but with help from AMI Support, this will be solved shortly. Best regards.

Nope! not us crazy cat people---and yes we are crazy. I have six cats and think Paul and his stories are "all that and a bag of chips". For me, this is a tuff lesson. I can mimic it but I am not sure why it is doing what it is doing.

nice :) i like how the dogs got ran over by cars jokes :) i love the >commands.txt command tho thats interesting i will definitely use that instead of copy and paste because its actually faster to type then it is to mess with the mouse while your trying to do some things and its a shame i cant ctrl c and v i have to use mouse or remember weird function keys to get it done without a mouse but with >output its so much faster and easier and makes alot of sense! great tut.

Paul: It sometimes helps me to graft out your lessons so I can see the mechanics of what is going on. In doing this with the "send" command. would it be correct to say that sending in this case is only sending a list of the files (not the contents of the files) to a different directory and then ultimately to a new file in that directory.Crazy cat guy AKA catmandewey.My dream is to make a better self cleaning kitty litter box with the Raspberry Pi. Yes really

it's seems like you've been offended by the comments and you're showing what you're capable of. I've followed you through arduino and the Python postings you've made and I need no convincing that you've earned your credentials and you don't need to prove that to anybody. I don't understand why you devote your time and effort to doing these videos, but I'm grateful . I'm 65 years old and my journey through life leaves me with the question, who enhanced your life and who do you wish you never met. The people who give more than they have to, are the people I respect. The ones who are are looking for what they can get from you, are the people you might wish you never met! I feel like I know you better from your personal information being shared and your not just a walking computer. Please don't let the assh****s change you.

Great videos sir! BTW I found something interesting. I tried doing something like this. we know, "clear" command clears the command line window. so I tried, creating a text file, some out.txt and in the same working dir, I gave "clear>out.txt" and nothing happened.. but when I tried to print the content of out.txt, using "cat out.txt", the command window is cleared. indicating, using > in command doesn't store the output of the command preceding it. Instead, it stores the command itself. And printing the content of the file executes the commands stored into the file. Nice learning from your videos... Thanks.
@jparun36
@jparun36 6 лет назад
but when I try to read the content of "out.txt" in reference to my previous comment..... No, it's confusing.. one should try it out..
@jparun36
@jparun36 6 лет назад
I think, i kinda understood this... since "clear>" does not return any text to be stored in out.txt, it stores something like this: ^[[3j^[[H^[[2J It should be an executable text corresponding to clear command. somebody, plz tell me what kind of language are these: ^[[3j^[[H^[[2J ... thanks
