Good team will be interesting to see how we perform. Still early in the season some of the coaches have changed, the team still needs to adapt to the new systems. Well done to the Irish with their defeat against the Springboks.
I am very happy that Rassie selected this team. It shows how much depth we have in our rugby. It should be stupid from the Management team to select the same players who played the two tests versus Ireland!!! Well done Rassie!! Portugal is definitely not a team to worry about

It boggles me that people think Faf de klerk is a better scrum half than Cobus Reinach, Grant Williams & Jordan Hendrikse. Yes he is very affective on defence, & he’s got a good rugby brain but he’s very inconsistent with his performances
This is good for the Boks. It's time to start using the talent available from the new generation of players. It works well for a small country like Ireland to get a production line of young talent moving, Osbourne and Frawley, being a good example. Get those young lads as much international experience as possible and a team like Portugal is a good introduction game.
Well, if you are right, then why did we pick up so many huge injuries in the Durban test? SA were totally manhandled by the Irish. They were exceptional. They outplayed us at our own game and were simply incredible in Durban.
Some of the players used to be 1st choice but now they are the 2nd choice. Meaning they are b - team players. If one of the 1st choice players gets injured then they select someone from the b - team.
Id love it if our best 15 at the end of the year is: 1. Ox 2. Marx 3. Koch 4. Etzebeth 5. RG 6. Kolisi 7. Psdt 8. Hanekom 9. Williams 10. Sasha 11. Arendse 12. Pollard 13. Kriel 14. Kolbe 15. Nothing can be read into a good performance against this opponent. A poor or average performance against such weak opposition can be very telling though.
The obsession with Moerat and "project players" is gonna cost us big time. Moerat is being fast tracked ahead of better players simply because he's a project player, the same way Hendrikse was given 60min vs Wales and Masuku still hasn't even gotten into the bench let alone be allowed to flop for an hour. Moerat is currently not even URC class let alone Bok Captain. Rassie and Nienaber love their project boytjies
I completely disagree with your comment about Sascha, It’s not clear that Rassie sees him as a utility back at all. He had to play 15 against the Irish because Willie got injured, otherwise he would have played 20 minutes off the bench for Pollard and he’s going to play off the bench for Mannie this week so in each of his four games he was and has been intended to be a 10, how is he definitely a utility player?
I would say Rassie does see him as a utility back by virtue of the fact that we had him on the bench with a 6-2 split. 6-2 split only works if you've coverage for your backline and G Williams only covers scrum half and wing
@@emilem12 Frans Steyn was a great player but he never reached the promise he showed around 2007. Damian struggled a lot at 12 initially and then 10 especially in a bok jersey until he settled at 15. I think these are both cautionary tales against keeping Sascha in limbo between 3 positions, yes, he can play those positions if needs be like against Ireland BUT, I think he will end up at 10
@@TheCosmerenaut1 My issue is just a tall 10 is slow to get ball to boot. I like Manie because of this. His cross field kicks are perfect and don’t get charged down often. Willemse, Steyn, and Sascha all get charged down more often. But hey I’m no coach lol just think a 12-15 role is better for his skill set.

I mean we not even talking about Wiese, and u got Lukhanyo who was the best n the world prior to injury. 5/6 scrummies(Jantjies, Jaden n crew) 3/4 Flyhalfs, 4 world class centres, 3/4 fullbacks and about 100 wingers n props🤣❤️🇿🇦 Under Sir Rassie we really becoming like NZ, jus a rugby factory birthing amazing players💯💯🇿🇦
He was playing lower level competition, i.e. Challenge Cup. Other players, though were not first preference in their local teams, were playing against top teams in the Champions Cup and were familiar with the Springboks system through u20s, etc. I think Masuku is completely brand new to the Springboks system. That was the explanation given. The explanation makes sense but... something suspicious to me. I mean Fassi played well, I think 2019, and was dropped. They said they getting him used to the SA system but he was never given a chance again, despite performing well and despite other players not performing and making repeated amateur mistakes, e.g. Willie, Elton Jantjies, etc. We will see.

Right, so all the tears have been shed and we are now the 2 Nd best team . Also we are all bright and bushy tailed to have new faces and the joy of playing a 3-4 tier country Portugal. Portugal just gave Namibia a vet klap. NZ scored the highest points ever in a international against Namibia. We owe Namibia a favour, and should smash Portugal and overtake that record. Can moerat be any worse than siyas captaining ability to make encounters with the ref??
Reinach deserves to be starting for the next 2 years or so. He played 2nd fiddle to Faf even when he was the better player, it's just our game plan suited Faf who kicked better tactically than Cobus.
The main reason he was selected was that he can replace different positions. If we were to look at only one position, who is he going to replace? Each position has multiple talented players some were not even called, e.g. Masuku. Even if he were to perform he doesn't have experience. I therefore do not think the coaches will risk him against teams like NZ at the moment. If he keeps performing, he will eventually replace someone. He is very talented.
Wouldve loved to see steenkamp start, moerat sa captain is a joke tbh and he is really not great...there are like 3 or 4 locks better than him not even in the squad...hope louw gets more than 20min to show why he is better than roos....dont understand why trevor is still here above W.Louw....im guessing moodie isnt ready...just hoping that guys like grobelaar, wessels, venter, louw and morne show why they must start getting game time above our older players

Rugby isn't just about attack. Libbok might be a better attacking flyhalf than Pollard, but he is a very poor defender. At international level he is a defensive liability.
My opinion on Libbok has not changed. This game would be a perfect opportunity to have given Shasha a full game or at least 60 minutes. He is the future, not Libbok. My 2 cents.
Moerat, Dweba. Have always been questionable selections. Don't know why Rassie is Soo obsessed with Moerat. Moerat is not Bok material, what leadership are we talking out. He is too average. There are better options with pure potential to take the Boks to the next level. Disappointed at the captaincy 😢😢😮😮. We really have better options.

When it comes to numbers and Springboks records... Mapimpi beats all these flashy wings: Kolbe, Arendse, Moodie, etc. I agree these wings seem to be better than him... but the numbers don't seem to agree with that. These brilliant wings scored 0 tries against 14-men All Blacks in the final. Scored 0 tries against Ireland 2nd test. I can bring more games where they scored 0 tries... check Rugby Championships, etc. Check British Lions series... first two games Kolbe scored 0 tries and got a yellow card which could have costed us a series... got a yellow card on the final, AGAINST NZ!!, which could have costed us the RWC23. I love these flashy SA wings even Fassi but boy... the numbers are looking the other way. I wish they could score more.
Please will our Springboks spend just one afternoon discussing, and finding corrective measures for, their schoolboy mistakes. (75 mins gone, we are leading by 2 points, we are on the Irish 5 yard , with possession…. until we make little mistake. Then we are in our own 22 DEFENDING … until we find ourselves 1 point behind whilst the full time hooter blasts.) Sad.
I wonder will they score any tries. They seem to rely on penalties, and they must be paying off the referee. Against Ireland he was doing a buy seven penalties, get one free package.
