Many viewers, (new to chicken keeping) have asked, "How do you tell the difference between rat bites and moulting?" We decided to show our viewers a simple scientific method to clearly determine whether your red faced chicken has a rat bite, cut or is moulting. We added to this by showing a simple DIY method to make your own Blue-Kote - a 'chicken repelling' antiseptic. In the best interest of chickens around the world we suggest all poultry keepers buy this product. www.amazon.com...
We are receiving no endorsements from Blue-Kote just believe it is a great product.

Thanks again, I followed the feed method in your last video and I am after a week getting up to 4 eggs a day from 5 year old hens. I have been feeding them about 6 times a day and have observed so much, really getting to know them better. I thought one was moulting but yesterday she laid an egg. Today I saw a huge rat in the house, rounded ears. It was raining heavily, so heavily that their were bubblers coming up under the house, rat holes, filling and flowing. Because there is no food now in the house, I fear for the hens, so have moved them to a royal Rooster tractor house until I completely renovate their house. The house is a big 3x3x3 m solid built house, off the ground, but some of the high wire was big enough for that rat to exit. I am now trying to work out the best way to rid the house of those visitors. Thanks again. Shax

Hi Sharyn, thanks for the message. It is always excellent when I hear about proactive chicken keepers. Too many chicken keepers have automatic doors, hanging feeders and 10 gallon water feeders. Then they miss vital clues about chicken health and only notice a problem when it is too late. Your chickens are very lucky to have you as there custodian Let me know how the new coop goes. As for the pesky rats if you identify any more rat holes pour boiling water down them. When the dazed baby rats come out the chooks should finish them off. Sadly the old fashioned snap traps out grandfather used are the best method for getting rig of rats. Only costing $3 they are quite economical and reusable. But you have to be careful with the other chooks around. Some of my friends mix peanut butter with baking soda to make balls and put them down the whole. The chemical reaction kills them. But that is a little brutal. Thanks again for the message, keep in touch - Grant and Sofia 😇

Fascinating. I’ve just rescued 6 caged hens and their desire to be outside free ranging is incredible. Here in the uk it’s expected that chickens are able to free range. Great videos, Soph is very knowledgeable about your chickens. Excellent work. Lol vegetarian chickens, seriously. Chickens eat mice, each other, insects, spiders etc etc. next they’ll be selling vegan eggs lol

Love it! Thanks guys. I personally cannot understand how keeping your chickens caged is a better option. You are right, they might be cleaner, and there is less chance of a predator attack... but is it really living?? 🤔 My girls love getting out and following us around, pleading and nagging for treats 😂. I also find that on hot days they are much better at keeping their cool when they can travel around to the coolest places in the yard as the day progresses and the shade moves. I will be doing the H2O2 3% tomorrow, will pop to woolies in the morning. I think mine are molting... but doesn't hurt to be sure. I know I have mice in the coop (something I am working on fixing after you last video) but I do not think they are bothering the chickens. Still I want to make sure, and I want them gone, regardless. Thanks again!

Hi Patricia, Sofia and I loved you message. We agree 100% in regards in terms of welfare. Safety does not mean being contented 😇😀As you know we free range and have never had any problems with heat. When we started chook keeping - we had a fixed coop and we had misting fans, sprinklers on timers and (🥶we are ashamed to admit this....) we even created an airflow pipe attached to an evaporative conditioner! This resulted in an increase in humidity and a batch of sick chooks. 🤕 But we all make mistakes, often they are a result of good intentions🤔. Since free ranging completely we have absolutely zero heat issues. Keep up the great work. Talk soon 😁
