I purchased a new chicken feeder from www.homgar.com and I have to say so far I'm very impressed, I seem to be using a lot less chicken food than I was before, in the old peddle bin system.

I found this feeder but, then started looking for how it actually works which I couldn’t find anything until I found your video. Thank you very much! So do you feel like all of your chickens are getting enough to eat? I only ask because it seems like only one at a time can eat.

Thank you for the video. I just came across this particular feeder and was wondering if it would work. I have never had a rat/mouse problem around my chickens till this year...and I do not like it because of the potential for disease! I think I will be trying this feeder out! I love when you put anything new in their coop! They are so curious and inquisitive!!! Beautiful flock you have there my friend!

Does it work with soaked feed? So grains that are wet?

Hi. I enjoyed your video. I have kept chooks for 20 years without much issue, but a few years ago I moved house and now have a stream running through my garden and paddock. Whilst it offers lots of enjoyment, the downside is , it attracts the rats, and I know, they are eating most of the food!! I have been looking for a rat proof solution for a while, as I will need several, I didn't want to buy some, only to find they don't work, so I am going to have a look at these.... I'm really sorry about your chook, a horrible thing to happen....

I've had it a few months now, I'm about to do another review, as I've a suspission the squearl is shacking it so the food falls on the floor lol but I need to catch him on footage to prove it. It's still good but I dint think it's 100%.

I bought one of these and after 3 weeks using it one of the sides didn't bounce back up stopping the chickens from getting pellets. Street many emails back and forth to their customer service and me sending them a video to prove it, they sent me a replacement bottom section. Right from the beginning of being advised to clean it they couldn't send me angry pubs or a video showing! How to remove the bottom section. I've not asked the 4 times and they have sum ignored these requests. I've got the replacement part but no idea how to get the original part off to put the replacement part on. Not impressed with their life customer service on relation to helping me with this aspect.

To be honest, I dont think mines as Rat proof as it once was. But I just googled "rat proof chicken feeder" and it popped up.

@@TexPR1 i think the rats have learnt to shake the feeder so the food falls out. But I cant cath it on video to prove it.

Can I just ask you if you’ve had any problems with this feeder as it gets older. For example the spring becoming loose and not working anymore? Pls let me know. Thanks very much

After a few weeks of use the feeder gets clogged on the track where the door slides in a groove. It’s a great idea, but once the dust from the finer particles of feed gets in the door track it does not spring back. Then you find your birds have been without food for however long. I have 3. Won’t use anymore. Not worth it.

Yer, I also found the rats here learnt to shake it, to get the food to drop out. 🤦‍♂️

It's OK. But if its shaken them food falls out. So rats can kinda figure it out a bit.

Seems a rat could easily walk right down into the food without stepping on the lever. But i don't know.

Agreed. Some rats are dramatically smarter than others. I used to breed rats and 1 out of a few hundred would be a genetic freak that was just naturally smarter than even dogs or cats. I had one female rat who was so smart that could open any rat cage just after seeing me latch it once..... she also knew how to scare my cats away. She would open the latch, the rest of the rats would stay inside for fear of the cats, and she would leave the cage and chase the cats away by hopping at them with her fists raised. For whatever reason it worked and the cats stopped messing with her. She would wait until I got home from work every day and then she would immediately open her cage to come and tug my pant leg for attention. She had 4 litters but none were as smart as she was...

I got one and they don't work at all and are very poorly made. the parts are plastic and the weight is all wrong

It does for my girls, but they also have a big run with plenty of worms as I use deep litter on top of the soil. When I go down there is always food left

I am sitting watching rats jumping up and getting the feed out of my so called rat proof feeder, I have 3 of these expensive things. I have fat rats and hungry chickens
