If we had a less of a rich and poor divide, we would need less prisons. Some inmates were born with not much of a chance in society because of living in deprivation and poverty, surrounded by crime, gangs and drug dealers as their model of life to live.

They refuse to work, but are quite happy taking welfare that has been paid into by the very capitalists that they hate. This nonsense about rich/poor divide. Rich people commit crimes too, and many people from poor backgrounds do not commit crimes. The left would rather rapists, murderers, robbers be out of jail, and the jail full of people who they have a difference of opinion with. What a weird bunch they are.

Sodexo is an American company that runs lots of prisons in the US especially in Texas. They have a litany of complaints against them for poor prisoner conditions and excessive staff violence. Most of their prisons are little more than sweat shops using cheap prisoner labour.
Forest bank Manchester and Altcourse Liverpool were opened about the same time, both after a short period doubled up all the cells from what was originally intended to be singles. The difference is Forest Bank cells are tiny, corridors are narrow and the whole feeling of the prison is oppressive. Altcourse cells are quite adequate for two prisoners and the units only have two levels, it also has an open feel. However both are now shit holes full of phones and drugs and both have a rapid turnover of staff. The pay is now closer to HMP rates but the prisoner to staff ratio is still dire.
