gotta give Insomiac credit for putting a twist at the end and make you fight the only other Lombax in their universe. and whoever plays him really sells the broken soul tormented by a traumatic mistake.
@@Her_Imperious_Condescension I don't get why She is not involve in the story. They can say that the two are the last lombaxes and she could of have a more major role. Which insomiac was planning to do but they just cut her before the game finish.
What’s heartbreaking is that Alister seems to still care about ratchet Ratchet:so your just gonna kill me? Alister:kill you now, save you in the past He even sacrifices him later to save ratchet and stop the clock
I feel his desire to bring back the lombaxes was far greater than his love for Ratchet. Thinking the great clock would bring him back, no biggie. Hurt a little now and gain a lot more in the future. In the end, it would have been much darker if he got to the chamber before clank.
I think he just had way too much health. I run out of ammo well before the second phase even began. I think that was a problem with all crack in time bosses. Either they had too much health or the guns did so little damage. It was the only game I got the RYNO for just to beat Azimuth and the secret Vorselon fight after getting all Zoni
Later after the events of Rift Apart. Rivet: I never had the chance to meet my father i only heard that he was a brave general and wanted to save his people. Ratchet: ...
From a story perspective, making Azimuth the final boss instead of nefarious was brilliant. The fact that you now have to fight potentially the only other member of your race is just gut wrenching. Such a fantastic story
And it also fits to later games of Ratchet's hesitation to find the other Lombaxes too, even if he knows they wouldn't all be like Alister on top of his fears he wouldn't live up to their expectations.
JOSHIE G. Same. In my opinion, this was easily the most impactful boss in the entire franchise. How it’s set up, what’s at stake, how the atmosphere captures all of it, and how emotionally driven it is. I think the ending was done perfectly, and having Azimuth as the final boss was a great twist. I wish we could’ve seen him again though, in some way, shape or form. I know he had a statue made for him in that museum in Into The Nexus, but I wish there could’ve been somewhat more. I’d love to see like an apparition or vision of Azimuth, or even Kaden. It would’ve been heartwarming to see. I can just imagine Kaden and Azimuth in the afterlife.
WUUL 27 I thought it was even cooler when ratchet got killed and then clank used the machine to save him. I think that was my favorite part of the whole game.
That's a DAMN good question. They absolutely butchered what made the first game so great as well by watering down the edgier tone and writing with the soft shite they dressed up the Future series with.
@@Hysteria98 the future serious has a tone of adult jokes in it. But It was starting to come into a time where it was more regulated and you couldn't make these jokes and children's games or it would be an uproar. I definitely don't like the first remake completely cuts out Ratchet and Clanks tension with each other towards the end and when clank breaks his arm saving ratchet when he almost falls is a real moment for me that made me keep playing to see the duo . The new generation of rewrites are watered down for this generation
Definitely the best game in the whole future series and best ratchet and clank game overall in my opinion. Tells the whole story of Ratchet and Clank. Hoverboots and RYNO V are awesome. Amazing and smooth boss battles. Amazingly clever challegenges. This game has is all.
Faizan Malik ship gameplay i felt was mundane and repetitive and took away from actual planets reaching their full potential. Levels not including krells canyon were too linear. Weapons and their designs i found to be dull and uninspired. Ratchets armor and the upgrades visual designs are disappointing and lacking to say the least. Enemies lacked a lot of variety and were bland compared to previous titles, again a problem of the game being to short and unfinished. Ratchets animations look and feel to floaty non-reactive especially the way he holds weapons and shoots them. Its as if they forgot when the series made ratchet hold and shoot big weapons that the animations should reflect that like in the first 3 games. Tools i will admit is guilty of this somewhat but does a superior job than acit. the humour from the previous games whilst still there is severely poor and lacking. The game is also way too short and feels rushed in aspects. Story though was phenomenal the best in the series. Clank puzzles excelent. But for me its not enough to compete with tools which had it all. Non linear levels. Enemy variety. Arguably the best weapons in the series (disruptor, razor claws etc) more subtle and detailed and reactionary animations are present with ratchet and clank actually reacting to the groovitron unlike in acit. Ship gameplay whilst being on rails doesnt overstay its welcome meaning more time was spent on worlds than space combat. Story, characters, humour. All great. Whilst the story doesnt reach the peak that acit does i feel tools is a more overall better ratchet and clank game because its more akin to the first three s which is a good thing. I personally think going commando is the best r and c game but i respect your opinion sir 😊 acit cut A LOT of content due to time restrictions which is a shame. Still a great ratchet game though not denying that!
I want to know how much money they spent on cut scenes. The quality of these matches or exceeds the quality of modern day cut scenes, and remember this game was made almost 10 years ago.
Phelan I think a big part of it is art direction. The game has an art style, rather than just going for photorealism. Art styles ages well, “Realistic, doesnt.
Holy crap this guy makes Otto, Nefarious and Vox look like total wusses, most of the fight (especially at the beginning) you barely even notice him taking damage while using the RHYNO to be exact!
Micah Bell ehh, technically. I didn’t find Nefarious’ fight that hard - mostly. But that hover boot section (when the path breaks apart) kicks ass and was what killed me so many times
They pulled zero punches. They killed Rachet to show this was no joke, The look of Disbelief Rachet has when he looks at Alister when he attacks him, The pure desperation of both sides trying to pull time together as it slowly crippled itself and eventually the sacrifice Alister makes after realising nothing he can do will fix the universe so why even be in it.
@@autumnclips.3269 He likely wants another collection of the original trilogy for the ps5. I do too since eventually the ps3 would get tiresome for me.
"So, should the clock be too small for your plans, i pray the cosmos light the way towards a future you yourself design" I cry every fucking time i hear this. It's such a sentence that can be used to every person leaving their own home and starting a new life somewhere else
A Crack in Time adds a compelling narrative and several fantastic gameplay enhancements, making it one of the franchise's greatest entries. A Crack in Time is one of the best action games on the PS3 because to its compelling narrative that explores the reasons behind the eponymous pair's longevity.
Imagine playing this part for the first time ever. No spoilers. Supposedly last game on the Future series (and maybe the series overall) at that time, and Ratchet is falling to his death with only Clank to save him, wow.
Keep in mind that Alister is old and past his prime and he fights with nothing but a wrench. And he is still regarded as the best boss in the entire franchise. And even if you beat him, he still doesn't go down. He sacrifices his life to correct his mistakes. He kills himself. You don't kill him yourself. My point is: Can you imagine fighting this guy, in his prime, with an arsenal as large as Ratchet's? Ratchet wouldn't stand a chance.
I remember fighting Alister on the highest difficulty (Hardcore) and he is actually very challenging. I actually had to use my entire arsenal of weapons to beat him.
@@mr.marvin I somehow managed to beat him by only using the wrench. One of the most intense boss fights I've ever experienced. Barely beat him with 3 HP out of 170 or something like that. I don't remember what my max health was but I remember fighting the last 5 minute without taking any damage (otherwise it'd have been game over).
When Ratchet goes to the Lombax dimension, he needs to learn some of their battle techniques instead of relying so much on his other weapons like the blasters. Just to build a strong base, Azimuth did one move that deflected an entire barrage of ammo; that's pretty insane
"Sometimes the universe has a cruel sense of humor" -Azimuth "The universe has a wonderful sense of humor, the trick is learning to take a joke" -Orvus Anyone else notice this?
@@tonystank3091 The Universe: Makes him trust in a cragmite -Makes his race hate him and exile him -Live 20-ish years alone trying to undo your mistake, go possibly mad -Find your best friends son who says he accepts the way it is -Sacrifice yourself after understanding your mistake Orvus: "The universe has a wonderful sense of humor"
0:35 Gives indication to the players that this is supposed to be a “Walk into the sunset” shot of our heroes making wise cracks at each other like usual. Until Alister pulls a “Nope”.
Alister was misguided by the fact that he thought he can change the past with the clock, just like in real life, some things aren’t worth changing. You have to embrace the future and move forward. But instead, Alister focuses on his grieve and his past mistakes for the destruction of the lombaxes. I mean, I don’t blame him for trying to find a way to save his race, but it just wouldn’t have worked with the way he wanted to do it.
for a split second after you take down alister and ratchet goes for the time lever it looks like he was about to cry but quickly composed himself. I honestly feel bad, alister had been alone for so long and lives with guilt from the past. He's a veteran trapped in the past and his whole goal was to bring the Lombaxes back but, he didn't realize the repercussions of his actions as he was looking around in confusion as the tower started to explode. his last act was very brave as he sacrificed himself to allow ratchet who is younger by many years to survive and continue to find the remains of their race.
From a story perspective, the future series is still superior! Edit: I retract this statement. Although more cinematic, I can't deny that the future series is one very large step of deviating from the original concept of the first game: the critique of superficiality and capitalism all done in a dry and well executed humor
Orchestra Gamer Definitely. The Future saga really stepped it up with the storytelling, and story/writing in general. From the characters, to the story, to the set pieces, etc.
@ArtBuffalo Kinda odd she helped him on quest for booty then just stopped in crack in time. But tbh they are kinda tossing her around, she doesn't even in appear in a rift apart (save for the credit in a cameo)
The only thing that I would've liked is for Ratchet to inherit the mantle of Praetorian guard. That, and Alister's wrench with the shooting black holes ability would've been a cool secret unlock.
Weird fact: There isn't a single body of water to swim in the entire game, in fact I don't even think the swimming animation is coded into the game haha
I remember beating this boss with only the wrench.. Took me like 30-45 minutes but was so rewarding to beat lol Shame I don't have a PS3 anymore, favourite console of all time because of this franchise (and littlebigplanet)
I imagine he'd be like the Joker in an episode of Batman the Animated Series where a nobody crook "kills" Batman and he completely loses it cause he wasn't the one to do it.
I like how some bosses when you near them aren’t dead, they are only a bit inured, showing how tough they really are, like azimuth, and Neferious in the 3rd game. Even Drek ( he kills him self when trying to avoid being crushed) and the giant Protopet is only knocked out. Qwark doesn’t even die, both times you fight him. Courtney gears is severely wounded. The thugs boss survives the first encounter with ratchet but dies the second time.
Of all the Ratchet and Clank: Future games, A Crack in Time will forever be my favourite and the best (in my opinion). My only “gripe” with it is the redemption before death trope which I’m not too fond of, however General Azimuth being the final boss nonetheless puts icing on the cake. This game came out so long ago yet many years later in 2020 it still hurts my heart. *Edit* : also, are we just not gonna acknowledge the fact that 1) this is the first time Ratchet called Alister by his first name and not “General” or “General Azimuth” and 2) Ratchet and Alister aren’t the only Lombaxes? I mean did everyone forget about Angela Cross?
But i Think he was reasonable. Azimuth isn´t the ind of Villian that just want to conquer the universe or get rich. He wanted to save his people and went a dark route sacrificing the safety of the universe for his goal. He was incredible lonely and angered when Ratchet didn´t support him in his plan to use the clock. During the boss fight he even mentions to kill ratchet just to save him later.
This was such a great moment for me when I first beat the game. When Alister started powering up his wrench I wondered if he was going to do it. Then he shot ratchet and tried to force his way into the great clock. I was thinking about how tragic this was and I was also super happy insomniac games had the balls to go through with something like that. And then the final fight happened. I used my max rank grovitron and forced alister to dance as I shot him over and over point blank with the RYNO 5. So in the end my version of ratchet and alister were both as cold and brutal as each other. It was pretty tragic when you really think about it.
The beauty of it is that it is in direct contrast with Azimuth's statement earlier in the game. "Sometimes the universe has a cruel sense of humour..."
After so many years after playing this game I literally just realized that zoni sounds a lot like Sony It is either a coincidence or a very well placed gag Damn I love insomniac
I know I've made a few comments on this video however alister saying kaden would be ashamed of ratchet being a coward and a traitor as well as ratchet being alone for the rest of his life is a low blow. im pretty sure kaden would of stopped alister too if he were alive but what he did to save his kit during the attack was noble in its own right
