Whenever someone asks me for my opinion on the Ratchet and Clank series and which games they should play. My go-to answer will always be the original trilogy on PS2 without a doubt. But if someone were to ask me which game out of the franchise was my favourite, I’ll always respond with the finale of the Ratchet and Clank Future series: A Crack in Time

Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time (known as Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time in most PAL countries) is a 2009 platformer video game developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation 3. It is the sequel to Tools of Destruction and Quest for Booty.[4] The game was released for the PlayStation 3 in North America on October 27, 2009,[2] in Australia on November 5, 2009[1] and in Europe on November 6, 2009.[3]
Upon release, the game received positive reviews from critics, with praise particularly aimed at the story, visuals, and gameplay. A fourth and final installment for the future series, titled Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus, was released in November 2013 for the PlayStation 3.
A Crack in Time game features both returning and new gameplay mechanics to the Ratchet & Clank series. One such mechanic involves the Chronosceptor: A staff that repairs broken objects when you hit a broken object with it. This device may also be used like Ratchet's wrench, to fight off enemies.[5] By using special "time pads", Clank can also record up to a minute of his actions and then a holographic Clank replays them, while the real Clank does something else. Up to four copies of Clank can be recorded at a time. These holographic Clanks can help to solve puzzles.[6] In addition to gadgets like the Swingshot and Gravity Boots from previous games,[7] Ratchet has a pair of hoverboots, allowing him to move more quickly around planets and moons.[8]
In a noticeable departure from all previous games in the series, Ratchet can now fly his ship freely between planets on a two-dimensional ecliptic in various zones,[9] going to small moons and completing optional challenges, earning special items such as Zoni, gold bolts, and weapon mods in the process.[8] The ship's blasters, missiles, and armor can also be upgraded by obtaining additional Zoni. The game also has new weapons known as Constructo Weapons. These fall into three main categories; shotgun, bomb, and pistol. Each weapon can be modified with additional features and altered in appearance to make a weapon unique to the player.

This was actually the first game in the series I ever got to play. I still felt invested through the story and they did a good job at explaining things from the last game so newcomers wouldn't feel lost. It's so amazing. Never been too into puzzles, but I'd play a whole game that's just Clank's hologram puzzles.

Crack in time was my first ever rachet and clank game, when my dad got a ps3 with it in a bundle for us kids for christmas. I am so glad that that happened, cause it sparked my love for the entire franchise. glad to see that other people like a crack in time too :)

Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time was my first R & C game, as i decided to try it, awaiting for the new PS4 game (a dark time I know) and fell in love. I had never heard of the series and so knew nothing of the plot. I fell in love, and played it nonstop (stopping only when I got too frustrated with a boss battle or a platforming section (looking at you hover boot nefarious section) and eventually finished it. I didn’t even realise until later on that I was playing a seven year old (at the time) game. I later went on to play the earlier games, and am currently trying to get through the first games. R & C: aCiT will alway have a special place in my heart, as it was the first to get me into the series

I grew up playing a crack in time and will always have so much nostalgia for me, I fucking love this game and it will always have such a huge spot in my heart and I will always love it. I love to see this game getting the love it deserves. The ratchet and clank series will always mean so much to me I love every ratchet game (except for the 2016 PS4 reboot) and I’m praying the ps5 game will restore the ratchet series to its peak if it doesn’t then the ratchet and clank series probably won’t get another game.

My favorite part about this game was just the environment. It didn't just create aliens and put them in random places, it gave them culture and reasons to be where they were and in what state they were in.

10:37 How... dare you. Jak II is my favorite game in the franchise. The random difficulty spikes, the mostly barren and uninteractive city hub, the jarring tone shift from the far more polished first game... Okay, maybe you have a point. Still my personal fave, though

It definitely wasn't a good idea to give Ratchet a movie, they couldn't come up with this kind of thang the way Insomniac did, A Crack In Time is basically the Ratchet movie, it's got everythin' like the adult humour, the realistic graphics, best character designs, best cinematics, complicated story, and the storyline itself ties back to the original game with Ratchet and Clank's origins, probably the darkest mature game in the series, it's too flawless and would kick ass straight up, only thing that should of been was bringin' back Angela as it would make sense more than ever to have her in the story that involves the Lombax lineage, but otherwise a great conclusion to the series, I wouldn't say it's a kids series either as it took adult themes and humour since the start, this was a true finale.

I always loved these games growing with 2 being my personal fav, had the best improvement from the previous game and was pretty good. liked the choice of musing from the previous games that you used for this video.Still to this day think that if they never focused on the multiplayer for 3 then it would be the best but for me 2 my fav(not that that the multiplayer was bad because it was fun but it would have gave insomniac more time to focus on the main game) crack in time would have been a solid way to leave the series, felt pretty satisfying and left you wondering what happens now

Hard to imagine its been 11 years now... I started with the original when it was brand new. Favorites aside, A Crack in Time is definitely the best when it comes to mechanics, graphics and the sophistication of it's design. Everything before and after cannot compare in these areas, all said and done. Granted the original trilogy made some of the greatest advances for their time. Level design has never been better than ACIT, as much as nostalgia brings me back to the originals more than any other. You are quite right about the music that is really the big let down of ACIT for me.

1) I hope they make a follow up to the future series. Maybe a last trilogy to find orvus and the lombaxes. They could really make a tight Ratchet and clank game thanks to what they’ve learned from Spider-Man 2018. Now they can make a proper open world game ( like One big planet with smaller moons Attached too it.) so you can freely use your hoverboots. They ALSO need To make new weapons. Since tools of destruction, they have been recycling a lot of them. ALSO more constructo weapons. Maybe they can also expand on the space levels. A crack in time was probably the best. And please insomniac bring back the agorians. They were so cool. You brought Back the fongoids. So i dont see an issue with bringing back the agorians. 2)They could ALSO make a dark Ratchet game. About Ratchet trying to Get by. 3) they could make a game about azimuth for the longtime fans. The story about his mistakes and what He had been doing all those years alone.

Yep. Tools of Destruction was my first ever Ratchet & Clank game. I have played the original 3 and enjoyed the hell out of them, but there's that special bit of nostalgia I have for Tools of Destruction, and especially A Crack in Time, which has to be my all time favorite in the franchise. (never played Quest for Booty or Deadlocked)

CiT is actually my first R&C game. We didn't have a PS2 at the time (still don't have one) and my brother didn't buy any other R&C game for the PS3. I only found out a bit later that it was a part of a trilogy, because since it was the European version, the title screen didn't say "Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time", it said "Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time". Region specific title screens are weird

I never played Ratchet and Clank games other than A Crack in Time, I was really confused the first few days playing it, but I remember enjoying it for the rest of the game. I also found the story interesting and inspiring. I later watched all the gameplays of other games like watching a whole series of TV show... I still play the radio music from A Crack in Time when working :)

Where the overworld OST lacked, Deep Space Jams made up for 🤩😆. Love those jazz tracks to death, especially when just cruising through space with no battles. Also love that I'm seeing a lot of people not only tout A Crack in Time as their favorite/the best in the series, but also putting Up Your Arsenal up there too (at least from the original trilogy). They've been my favorites, but quite a bit of fans seemed to gravitate toward Going Commando as the reigning champ, at least from when I first got into the series.

Thanks for watching! The Ratchet & Clank movie was a missed opportunity that we’ll most likely never get another attempt at. There are a lot of cool ideas, such as giving Ratchet and quark a lot of screen time together before his betrayal. But it lacked the heart that even the original game’s story had. Ratchet and Clank’s relationship is barely explored in the movie. And I feel that it was a missed opportunity since the arc that Ratchet goes through in the first game, would have been really cool to see adapted. The first 20 minutes were the best part of the movie because we get some good setup for the characters, but it’s never explored in an interesting way. It may be because half way through T.J Fixman (the writer for the future series) left the project and the director of the movie rewrote the script. If we got to at least see the draft that Fixman wrote, I’m sure it would’ve been better than what we ended up getting.

Man. To get an idea, I have over 1k hours on this game. It was my very first game on R&C and it was what got me into this beautiful series. Later on I got the R&C collection and figured the depth of this thing and I goddamn adore these freaking characters. I got to memorize ALL interactions, dialogs, animations and expressions these characters did! Man do I miss this game. But hey, I don't think this series is gonna end anytime soon! Hell, does it look like it is close to an end at all? Rift apart we go venture the realities and figure that one out. Damn, V-sauce, riddle guy here.

This was very enjoyable to watch, took me back to 2012 when I first played this game and was hooked for months(yes I was 3 years late with this game, the first Ratchet game I played was Tools of Destruction in 2011) But if I'm being honest, the first 2 Ratchet & Clank games are still my favorites, it felt like they delivered a lot more using less. The planets aren't as big but provided multiple paths that lead to different objectives, and different planets instead of just a linear order of "level 1, 2 3 etc". The series after 2 didn't provide many reasons to revisit planets, collectables used to lead to hidden paths instead just being in a hidden corner. I did not like the humor in the PS3 games, but it's not as bad as the PS4 reboot/movie. I just miss the satirical tone on greed and consumerism the first 2 games and Deadlocked had. I do agree that the weapons are amazing in A Crack in Time, the Spiral of Death is probably my favorite too, next to the Rift Inducer. But Going Commando has my favorite weapons of the series. The Plasma Coil/Plasma Storm is one of the best weapons I've used in any video game. I know everyone praises the Bouncer so much but how could I not? Even though 2 has my favorite weapons, the first game is still my favorite to play for its strategy approach with its weapons. The first game was much more about seeing what you're about to face ahead of you, and thinking from a distance what the most efficient weapon is, eliminate all flying enemies with the visibomb, before approaching enemies, setting up mines and using the taunters to activate them from distance etc. The first game also felt like it did a lot more with its gadgets, the rocketboots are amazing, much better than the chargeboot, but their platforming obstacles felt like they foolproof and I would like some challenging obstacles with them. The biggest complaint I have with A Crack in Time is that there is nothing to do on the moons/mini-planets on Challenge Mode after collecting everything on the first run. I feel as if it was an oversight, which makes Challenge Mode reduce its length by half, those mini planets easily doubled the amount of hours I put in a playthrough. I think the Zoni count should have reset to 0, maybe keep the shield and weapon upgrades, but remove all the ones required to go the locked planets. I feel like my little challenge mode suggestion would be all it takes to make the mini-planet exploration perfect, so I hope they bring it back for Rift Apart.

Just found this video! I remember my time with this game, there was a short period of time where I accidentally placed in the top-forty players for wrench kills. I did multiple playthroughs with mostly just the wrench because the combination of mobility from the hoverboots and the ability to throw the wrench while moving was so satisfying to me that I sometimes forgot about my weapons entirely.

Probably my favourite in the entire franchise. Fantastic story, The Great Clock sections were awesome, the free-roam Ship Gameplay was superb, the spherical worlds you can explore were awesome and the hoverboots were a fantastic edition.

I briefly remember this game. Gosh, what a blast from the past! I think your attention to detail regarding the transitions, narration, and edits show that you care about the content of your videos. Now, let’s discuss your ending. I think it would look more aesthetically pleasing to your audience if you combined a proper end screen card with the blur effect in the background instead of using screenshots (see Timestamp: 19:45-19:57ish). Additionally, give yourself more credit and don't tip your hand about videos not being as positive as the others…let your audience decide for themselves. =)

I enjoy a lot a crack in time good video. I was wondering how did you capture the gameplay? It looks great when i try to do it i only get 720p out of my ps3 using elgato hd

I use an Elgato HD 60 S for recording all of my videos. For the PS3, I use an HDMI splitter to get past the built-in HDCP. Some games on the PS3 don't support 1080P I believe. If you're using component cables with Elgato instead of HDMI it doesn't look as good.

I played the first Ratchet and Clank and going Commando on the PS2. Then played Tools Of Destruction and Crack in Time. Crack In Time is definitely the closure of the series, while the PS4 version is the remake of the first one. I like the PS4 version but the original was too good. Anyway great video.

During one of the Great Clock segments, I collected the gold bolt and died almost immediately after. When I was going back through the area, I saw that the bolt I’d just collected was still there. Out of curiosity I got it again and it counted towards the total. So when I got the rest of them, it said I had 41/40. That’s the only reason why I keep that old save file lol.

This was my first and my top favorite R&C game. And for succeeding more at deeper storytelling that the previous two Future games failed at, Nefarious' reason and goal for going back in time seemed kinda lazy. I would've preferred it if he wanted to go back and stop Ratchet and Clank from destroying his Biobliterator or something.

This game is one of my favorites from the whole serie. My second favorite game is the 3rd game too. The character development through out in the serie. Ratchet f...king dies! And it almost become canon if Clank didn't change it. The cutscenes were great and the voice acting too. You could also feel from having that fight in the end of game with Alister that you didn't want to fight him but you had to. For what is best of the future. (Or that was maybe just me?) The weapons are awesome! And I like most of them, and so much more! What about you guys? What was your favorite part of the game and other stuff too from it? For I would like to hear about it ok.

This actually was the first Ratchet & Clank game I ever played, and it definitely hooked me into the series as a whole, but that's just me. I understand completely why you wouldn't recommend it to a newcomer.

It’s a shame it was a great game but the soundtrack was just an uneventful movie background score and was just sad compared to the original trilogy’s stand out soundtrack. The original trilogy offered memorable tracks that gave the planets character which would have been nice in ACIT for some of the less important or unique planets like Torren IV and Vapedia.

honestly saying that no weapon feels to powerful or too weak is a bit of a lie. I found that a crack in time had some very useless weapons when compared to tools of destruction. This was a bit of a let down but i liked pretty much everything else about the game. From the story to the bloody radio station (which is actually entertaining to listen to) it was overall a great experience and a great way to end the future saga

The only reason I actually liked this game when I first came upon it, was because apparently there’s ratchets death scene which is all over youtube Also just that timing of doing a facecam when u first saw that scene But I guess now everyone is hyped at Rift Apart, in which there’s a reference to this game (or another game) in the second or third cutscene

I really like the 2016 version and Rift Apart the best, but A Clank in time is a close second and definitely has the best story of the games.

This one was one of the best in the series. I really enjoyed the ps2 ones the most and close second would be a crack in time. It was very polished and the levels were alot of fun. Overall great game and series

Played every ps2 R&C from original to DeadLocked too many times to count. After that I have yet to get a newer PS to play the next exclusives. Mind you this is way before I ever got a memory card by the 3rd game. and played through it waaaay to often. I miss R&C. would always better than Jak & dexter and Sly cooper franchises to me
