In my opinion, Kung Lao has always had the nastiest fatalities in each game. Whether it’s straight up tearing shit up to the anxiety attack he gave me in mk x with the head on the blade. I love him as a character

Lu Kang is the only character in MK 1 and 2 that has a fatality that doesn’t kill the opponent. He’s a monk and only kills when needed.

Man as a kid Shang Tsung's soul steal always scared me the most.

I know you guys are joking and kidding around when you say this, but MK is the furthest thing from a kids game. Yea, all the blood and violence is extreme and ridiculous and borderline cartoonish in the later entries like 3, 4, and so-on, but that just proves my point more than anything seeing as it's violence that's meant to be entertaining to an adult. I recall Ed Boon, or maybe Midway, releasing a statement specifically stating that Mortal Kombat is NOT for kids and never has been, but just simply young adults, which makes a lot of sense. The Frienships were Midway mocking the huge controversy surrounding the series and all the offended soccer moms, it wasn't put in to appease anybody, they were blatantly making fun of them, going from one round of handing someone a gift to the next where you brutally decapitate someone. Then you have the whole, "they had a PG-13 movie!" and "they had a cartoon!" - Well if I recall, Aliens Vs Predator had a PG-13 movie, both notoriously hard R franchises, and secondly, Robocop, The Toxic Crusader, and Starship Troopers all had cartoons, all R-Rated franchises, and the rebooted live action series Mortal Kombat Legacy was also not aimed at kids. Mortal Kombat is a series that's been directly been appealing to and selling on the Young Adult demographic every single release, regardless of who buys it, younger or older. It's over-the-top kung fu/action movie style is a tongue-in-cheek way of reminding everyone not to take the gore and violence seriously because it's just a game.

I remember the first time I saw the dragon fatality at the arcade. That shit blew my mind

I always thought Baraka's Impale Fatality was really creepy. He just impales you and as you slide down, he looks into your eyes as you bleed out and die. Looking at it from that angle, it's simple, sure, but imagine his face being the last thing you ever see, dying in complete terror at that sinister grin. Sometimes simple is best.

What made Liu kangs flipping uppercut fatality interesting was the concept because he's a Shaolin monk and he doesn't kill (even though he eats you) it was probably a call back to mk1
