I like how JP's victory animation makes it clear he wouldn't bother killing you but he immediately changes his mind in his Critical Art. It's like he considers anyone who gets him to low health as a formidable threat.
Hearing Zangief go "It's time to get serious" and then whiffing and hear him go "Are you serious?" Is so funny I almost don't feel bad for whiffing the super
@@KitsyKat Idk if Zangief is like this in the previous games but I absolutely love how he really feels like a theatric wrestler in SF6. The way he moves and how he does crowd work in his taunts and supers. He feels like he could fit right into 90’s WWE.
@@anironfarm6056 The closest I can recall to him being like this previously is the fact that one of his fans can be heard speaking when he does his VT2 in SFV.
I thought this move was good. As much as I miss "MUSCLE POWER FOR YOU" I really, really like the sound of grabbing your opponent's head and the sound when he kicks em right as they're getting up.
Jamie's throat rip is straight out of Jackie Chan's Drunken Master (1978) which references the Eight Drunken Immortals, one of whom has a powerful throat lock.
i would put marisa in the list too, i can see her ripping off the face of the opponent with her CA. Hell, the whole "stuck in the wall" and all the dust gives her a lot of Geras fatality vibe
@@kin4386 it's like the "normie" weird fetish, like yeah it's weird but there's WAY weirder people who haven't been made aware of all the horrors underneath
the pillow throws for honda is a reference to actual sumo events. from my understanding, its when an underdog sumotori throws/pushes down a bigger named sumotori. the audience throws the pillows in response, "the crowd goes wild" kind.
Yes, he's right, it's when the Yokozuna is taken down by a lower ranked wrestler, the audience throws the cushions they were using into the ring in celebration.
God, Ken’s 3rd super is just so badass. The sliding his fist across the ground and igniting it and then uppercutting and slam dunking while saying “sit down and shut up” is just so freaking badass
I love the delivery on it, too. "Sit down... and SHUT UP!" Even better is when is doesn't kill - after they both come down Ken says, "I've had enough!" Yeah. Ken's seen some shit lately and he's done with all of it.
It seems like each dance grab ends up in a throw, as we can see damage being dealt before each scene cuts. Either that or she's really just doing emotional damage with all the embarassing moves she's putting her opponent thru
Muscle Mommy actually has a *third* variation to her lv1 that only happens if she gets hit while charging. Time freezes for her opponent and she leaves a shadow trail to deliver a sliding uppercut. It looks cool af.
“Muscle Mommy” You know what? I applaud your audacity for calling her that. Doesn’t help that she’s voiced by Allegra Clark, who’s voiced quite a lot of “mommy” characters.
Cammy's Critical Art gives me phantom pain because it's the efficient single strike kill to a very very specific part of the body in the lightning fast manner that kills on impact. Like JP, Cammy's critical Art is basically her acknowledging you as a true threat that somehow managed to bring her down to this point. Her Lvl 3 is the flashy version. Her Critical Art is where she goes true assassin. A part of the neck that connects your head and neck and it's *precise, efficient, lethal* It's not supposed to be flashy. It's meant to kill you. Straight up.
Shame that Dee Jay's hair got in the way. You don't see how she gets behind the opponent, she just does, and it's actually kinda scary. Only thing it's missing is the ゴゴゴゴ
As a former breakdancer I can say the attention to Jaime and his move set how it flows seamlessly into his Drunken Fist style is truly a work of art and highly appreciated
Yeah, Ken and Ryu both say that-which makes sense since they've spent so much time training together. I don't remember which move it is for Ryu off the top of my head, though... I think it might be throw Punish Counter.
Hands down: Best Supers we've ever had in a Street Fighter game. The almost Fatality like supers, Marisa having the one hit punches that feel like they could knock someone's head off, Manon openingly mocking you while forcing you to dance before throwing you, and JP when he decides to stop holding back for two seconds. Just to name a few. In the end, the developers really went up and beyond to make just about all the moves as flashy and amazing to look at. A wonderful fuzzy feeling if you land your level 3 (and more so if you are in a critical situation).
Wrestler here. Zangief at 24:51 is doing what we call “neck bridges”. We don’t go back and forth, but the are really good and building your neck muscles/getting you accustomed to being upside down.
Ken combining Shinryuken and Shoryureppa is also some tidy lore, how Ken continues to develop anew while Ryu continues to refine the traditional forms. And has Zangief left the pile driver completely behind for a spinning sitout powerbomb?
Another fun little lore bit about Ken getting better: in the older games (and in MvC), Shoryuu Reppa was a full-fledged Super that took Super Meter. Ken's gotten so good now that it's just an EX DP now, takes a little Drive Gauge but no Super meter.
cutscene supers are one thing, but this game having some cutscene supers where the opponent actually tries to fight back or even gets to participate a little (like in Jamie's) is SO fucking cool
Same, I also love the shot of his face at the end where it almost looks like he realized he went too far. This game is great at little character moments like that
@@Flurriestone I personally don't like that Jamie's super resets to neutral before he beats the tar out of you. At least with Luke the failed attempt to fight back happens during an overwhelming beatdown.
For Guile’s critical art, what I find to be cool about it is the fact that he does one Flash Kick while you’re in the air, and then performs ANOTHER Flash Kick off of your chest rather than landing on the ground to do another kick. In general, this game seems to really nail the characterization in everyone’s Level 3 Super Arts in both regular and low health versions.
That's really not communicated as well as it should. It just looks like he jumped up and stepped on your face, counting as an actual hit versus the L3 version not. If he didn't say "Double" Somersault, I honestly wouldn't have noticed he was supposed to be doing an extra Flash Kick BEFORE the final hit.
Lily’s supers gets way better for me when you realize she’s trying to do T-Hawk’s original super in SF4, where he bounces them off the ground and slams them down in the air, but she fails at it.
Given how install supers are more prominent in SF, I think they should have their own rating, maybe not on cinematic side, but based on its utility or potential stylish combos. It just sucks seeing them automatically with a low score because they're installs.
@@ChannelName947 It's just a quicker way for him to temporarily get to Drunk Level 4. It's not that interesting outside of the kinda funny animation of him chugging drink. Outside of that, it's just a different way for him to do what his main gameplay gimmick already is.
@Channel Name The character has a drink gauge, from 0 to 4 that you have to fill up during rounds, and there are many moves that end with Jamie grabbing a quick sip in cool poses. The more he drinks, the more damage he does, the more moves he gets access to, and of course the more drunk he looks.
I love how JP's critical art is basically a better version of Kolin's SF5 super. Like, they both imprison the enemy in a tower of crystal or ice, and somehow JP's feels more brutal It really goes to show that presentation and better sound design could change how impactful an attack can be.
It's not just the sound though, JP's CA camera work is miles better and he doesn't just trap you in ice, he slams you on the ground and impales your body right after, then impales your limbs to hold you up and finishes you off by exploding your body with more spikes. Kolin just summons ice spikes to trap you and the ice breaks at the end, wildly different I'd say.
I don't think a lot of these 10s are actually 10s. Jamie's a 10? REALLY? In MK that would be a 3 or 4, but here it gets mentioned WITH MK and called a TEN? The problem is that Max seems to be scaling these numbers SUPER high, meaning that anything halfway decent gets a 7 at the bottom, so everything halfway good is going to be 8-10, so the ratings really don't mean anything. People need to remember that a 5 means average, not bad. All the 7s and 8s should have been 4-6, and then everything would scale much more realistically.
And just to say, that's not me taking anything from the game itself. I think a lot of these are AWESOME. But the ratings are skewed way too high and it takes something out of the REALLY great supers.
@@RabidDogma despite the fact that I generally agree with Max, perhaps you are probably right, scaling is to high, but the trick is that the assessment is based on a specific game, not comparing with others, MK is MK, and this has never happened in SF, but I also don’t think that there are 10 everywhere, it’s just hype, the game just came out, it’s sf and there is bias and this is normal, in other games such scores were considered differently.
It's the fact that they are putting out great cinematic supers from the start, only makes you wonder what the later DLC character's supers are gonna look like.
21:46 my mans rolled his r that's crazy also i love how every single time ken says "koitsu de saigoda" in a super combo, it gets translated differently for the english version in ssf4 it was "one more for good measure" in sf5 it was "now for the finale" and now here it's the visceral "SIT DOWN AND SHUT UP"
Not gonna lie the Marisa on Lily violence at the 6:20 mark was hilarious. Everything about it was funny. the way Lily posed with a smile before the first hit, the way she landed butt-up after the second one, it was all funny to me.
I love the little details in JP's Level 3. Like how he casually sidesteps a spike as the energy explodes out of the opponent or how he wipes off the tip of his cane in the CA. Really suits his polite yet extremely callous personality.
It feels like a holiday when Max rates the supers of a fighting game. Also we all know who super is an instant 11/10 when they have their classic costume on.
I noticed on marisa’s critical super, after she punched and twisted your face, she leaves a heart impression on your face, so she quite literally gave you a taste of her love.
Ngl the level 3 supers/CA's all look amazing, my personal top 5 favorites are: 1. JP (mostly for his menacing laugh) 2. Zangief (also a literal death if it was MK fatality) 3. Luke (reminds me of Cassie Cage brutality but in SF6 and because I'm not bias) 4. Jaime (the ending is basically a MK fatality) 5. Manon (it has that Skullomania super from EX but with ballet)
Honda's sumo pillows throwing after the super is a reference to what happens in sumo tournaments (or used to, I am not sure if it still does) whenever the public particularly loved a fight. Pretty cool to see it there!
I love how in the CA they just go full Kung Fu B-movie with the grainy look and the sepia-tones in the background and the classic "yooooooooooohhhhhh" when he does the throat rip.
And the classic the end screen in mandarin, Jamie (for now, Akuma absolutely will have this) is the only one with a unique K.O screen. Bloody took Capcom long enough to have a Drunken Boxer.
The quality of these supers is so great that 10 of the characters were given 10s for either their level 3 and or critical art! By far the best supers and cinematics in Street Fighter history by a globe! I don't think there was a single level 3 or critical art that got below an 8! Good job Capcom!
Amazing thing to note, is how long the camera lingers on the _opponent_ during Ryu's Shoryuken-Supers. Like, you see EXACTLY how high they flew, and from where they fall.
These are always really fun simple videos to watch! Now we wait for the rate the super for Tatsunoko vs Capcom and Street Fighter x Tekken, I'm surprised they haven't been done yet
25:28 thats both fitting to his character and an effective sendoff, yes i agree entirely with this addition should be there. the whole "gets hit so hard it had to play 2 more times"
NGL, I've been wondering about how that would look for a while, and given some get extra hits for Mega evolution, a few get multiple versions which could also be rated for their upgrades.
@@Sassaparilla Yeah, I noticed that. Like in Manon's Lv.3 super startup pose, her foot is prominent but a bit out-of-focus from the depth of field. Juri's feet are always very in-focus and often a major focal point of the shot. They intentionally fit two different kink aesthetics. Manon's take on the foot thing is more _"graceful, and low-key but not actually"_ and Juri's is more _"unabashed fetish content"._ Either way, I'm here for it!
Honestly, JP's lvl 3 and CA are enough for me to put him next in line of characters I want to learn after I get my bearings and relearn Juri/Ken since I haven't played since vanilla SF4 lolol
Dude, everything about this old fart goes so hard. The theme, his godlike supers, JP is ridiculously flashy for a Bison replacement. I don’t even mind the fact he’s a zoner, he’s that badass.
I’ve never been heavy into fighting games but got into the FGC around 2018 EVO as just a spectator. I appreciate how much Max understands the respect done towards so many characters in this and the attention to detail.
more cutscene = better with Max always. I often appreciate ones that are shorter and to the point so you don't have to put down your controller while waiting for it to finish.
True but that’s from a gameplay standpoint. Of course it’s gonna get old after awhile. But he’s rating them off of visual flair. That would be dumb if he rated them badly because it’s too long, and would distract him from the game 😂. The criteria is literally based off how they LOOK! That’s why he rates install supers low, because they don’t LOOK cool. It has nothing to do with gameplay.
I just now noticed it but during JP's Lvl 3 Critical Art, he actually cleans his cane and throws the cleaning cloth over his shoulder and you can see it flutter behind him as the Psycho Power spikes explode. I also feel that Cammy's Lvl 3 is better as the Non-Critical Art than as one...I'd swap the animations for them personally so that her CA animation is the standard and her standard Lvl 3 is the CA.
My favorite thing about JP's level 3 is something he *doesn't* do. His level 3 is the only time in his entire moveset that he will ever touch his opponent with his hands. Not even in his throws. He will literally never get his hands dirty unless he's backed into a corner and has no other options.
@@kevingriffith6011 True, he's a bit of a clean freak as one of his likes is "Cleaning" and one of his dislikes is getting his cloths dirty. I didn't notice that till you pointed out that he doesn't use his hands to physically touch them except in his Level 3.
I can’t wait to see what Akuma’s raging demon will look like I’m hoping it will look like a fatality like how JP’s critical art is but I’m hoping they bring back the idea of showing glimpses but not everything to you while he does the raging demon like in SF5
