Rati is typically depicted in beautiful dresses and holding a bow made of flowers and arrows, like Kamadeva’s tools. The bow was made of flowers to show how gentle emotions are. Her arrows are named Ananga, which means formless, showing that love goes beyond the physical world and touches our spirit.
There are several versions of her birth myth- a classic one tells the story of Lord Brahma who lusts after his daughter, Sandhya, so she commits suicide. Lord Vishnu revives her and calls her Rati, then has her marry Lord Kama and they become a lifelong devoted couple. In another version, after her suicide, Sandhya is reborn as Rati from the perspiration of the goddess Daksha.
Rati’s devotion to Kama is represented in another elaborate story that I summarized in the video.
Call on Rati when you want to have a more blissful marriage and deepen the bond with your partner. Having yellow bow in your home somewhere is also thought to improve the relationship between family members.
A powerful way to invoke Rati and Kama is to chant their names 108 times, while sitting on a yellow cloth:
OM KLEEM KAMADEV RATI NAMAHA
