Hey Rob! Thanks for posting about the various Computer Science courses at UNSW. Extended Operating Systems is definitely an S-tier course. Would recommend it to anyone.

The content is rich with clear explanation, giving me not only a brief overview of the degree but also a sense of which course should I take to finish it. Just a bit distracted by the speed of the vid, not sure if it's merely me, but I think it's a bit slow. I watch the half-end of the vid with x1.25. But, it's good in general, enjoying your music background

I'd also add the follow on from databases, 9315, to S tier. Its run by jas as well and it really dives deep in the nitty gritty of how databases work and messing around with postres

Just watched it mate, it's really good! I agree with a lot of the courses I've done myself. The only thing I'd mention is that some of the courses quality changed when everything went online. Overall though heaps good.

What was your UNSW experience like? Was it worth the time and money that you spend on it? Did you make a lot of friends there? I am not from Australia but I have lived here for 5 years now. I don't have any like-minded friends who are interested in CS here in Australia. So, the main reason for me to go to uni is to learn CS and make like-minded friends. I am planning to go to UNSW maybe next year, I wanted your insights about the UNSW uni life. Your reply would be greatly appreciated. Subscribed to your channel for future content! Cheers!
@robbiedoes8841
@robbiedoes8841 3 года назад
Hey mate, to be honest i think CS was worth the money, but the quality definitely decreased after trimesters were introduced. That's just simply down to content being either cut or rushed, so a lot of the courses in the trimester setup felt like "intro to" courses, where you just speed run everything, but don't go into detail into anything, so being self directed to learn details of stuff you need for work/are interested in becomes pretty important imo. In terms of the social side, it was like making friends anywhere else. The only difference is you get to be around people that are usually interested in the same stuff as you which i think makes it easier to break the ice. Hope this helps, Rob.

@@robbiedoes8841 thank you for your reply, Rob! I have decided to go to ANU instead. ANU's CS degree seems more theory and research-based which is what I am looking for. Keep making more quality content, looking forward to your next video! Cheers!

Hey Robbie! I'm doing my HSC exams next month (fingers crossed I'll get an acceptable atar) and I'm planning on doing computer science at UNSW next year. What did you choose for your major, minor (if you had one), free electives and general education? Do you have any advice on what free electives and general education courses to choose? Also do you recommend doing computer science as a double degree? I always had an artistic side to me and the cs/media arts double degree at UNSW caught my interest (also the atar requirement is only 0.3 more than just cs so I might have a chance), but I want to focus on cs more if possible.
@robbiedoes8841
@robbiedoes8841 2 года назад
Hey, I did a double with commerce so no general education. For major I picked to not select one and just do the most relevant courses.
@yellowajah

I did trash out of my HSC. I got into any uni that accepted me, and got in based on my grades there. Worked well for me because uni CS was much easier for me than HSC. atar isn't the only path into the school of your choice.

hello robbie! I am having difficulty choosing uts and unsw for CS. i have seen some people say UTS courses are really bad compared to UNSW. also it's four years at UTS which is a cons for me. Another question is if i want to become a software developer/ web developer, what stream should i take since i have no idea what each stream is about. Thanks in advance.

I did it and it was pretty good but the final exam was insane. It was supposed to be a 3 hour exam but because of covid they let us do it in a 12 (or maybe 24? idr) hour period - I spent 10 hours on it and only completed 2/3 questions. Turns out that it was scaled up and a pass mark was getting 1/3 questions
