Fun fact, Sathrovar has the exact same effect as the cut card Grimoire of Service. It was a 9 mana spell that was planned for Rastakhan's Rumble but it was cut from the set because blizzard deemed it "too powerful". So a couple sets later they attached a 5/5 body to it and it turned out to be hilariously weak.
I think I might've figured out what blizzard was so afraid of regarding Grimoire of Service. It was Skull of Manari (possibly together with Bloodreaver Guldan), at the time of Rastakhan's rumble it hadn't rotated out of standard yet. So you coukd have seen something like skull turn 8 to pull a doom guard on turn 9, GoS summoning a 2nd doom guard, send both face for 10, following thrn skull pulls the one that was added to hand for another 5, then later playing gul'dan to resurrect the 3 doomguards from earlier to do the remaining 15 damage for lethal as early as turn 11. By making Sathrovar a demon it has more tempo than the original spell but Skull ends up having the chance to pull Sathrovar instead of the intended demon making it far less reliable than GoS, also potentially dilutes the pool.
I think Vargoth probably took the favorite spot in your poll because while it may not be the most powerful card in the list, it’s probably the most fun.
Know it doesn't count but my favourite is the free Cuthun and two buff cards for him we got during Whispers of the Old Gods. That card defined how I played for his entire life in standard
i guess it's technically kinda niche but vanndar is pretty sick in rogue because you can reduce its cost and play it for 2 mana, which means u don't have to cut out any 3-4 cost cards
It can also still be played with renathal in Demon hunter by playing abyssal depths to draw renathal from your deck and curving into vandarr whose effect will now be active. Found it to be a pretty fun inclusion in a Relic demon hunter as of late.
One thing about Voljin that i think is interesting, he saw a lot of use specifically to bounce back your Zephrys back into your hand while not losing too much tempo in the process. This only lasted a small amount of time though, because once forged in the barrens released proper Uldum rotated out; but on that week or two, Voljin was very legit in standard
I really like the content man, it really clicked for me and when i subbed i glanced on your sub count and it was a lot lower than i expected, i think i stumbled on a hidden gem , i wish you all the best and i think you deserve more and more growth on your channel, keep doing your thing
Silas will always be in my heart. I loved playing control galakrond shaman with him and the doomsayer combo or playing it to steal a rattlegore. What a great design
I found this video on RU-vid recommendations, and for the past 2 days I have been binge-watching your channel. Great content and very unique style at that. My only suggestion is to decrease background music a little bit as sometimes you are not heard
Sunwell is one of my favorites cards overall. It's probably the only cost-changin card that you don't particularly WANT it to cost 0, and letting you balance so precisely between tempo and value is super cool.
Update of the competitive results of pre-release cards *Renathal:* Went from Hit to meh. It was too good with Druid and made Control priest a chore in worlds. *Sunwell: MEH.* The card isn't useless but it struggles due to every class having value bombs and Sunwell being random. *E.T.C, Band Manager: HIT.* The card removes the issue of tech cards being too niche and bricks when drawn, something not even tradable dealt with properly. The card is quite misused though, considering it's better to put there a wincon who only works on certain matches, (Svalna, Rivendare, Black Rock'n'roll), a greedy one (Lor'Themar, Faithful companions, ) tech option (Viper, Starfish, Framester, Okani, Steamcleaner) or conditional reach (Pyroblast, that charge druid beast, Sunspot Dragon, DH elemental). *Prison of Yogg-Saron: HIT.* Despite the low expectations from everyone the card actually ended up being good. A 7 mana card who usually gave you a removal of something and some cards, which can be repeated 3 times. Is very inconsistent but it's a good control tool, and while not a meta dominant, neither is Okani which is indeed a very good card despite being kinda fringe. *Thunderbringer: Meh/Miss.* Right now it's seeing play, but only on decks that can afford Neptulon, which are fringe rogue lists, so once he rotates into wild it'll be useless. Is just a nonimpactful card... yet cou could say it's tied for the 2nd best neutral legendary with the Sheriff (of course the best one is reno).
Sathrovar was prob one of the best cards for otk paladin with the 25mana lion dude. Y could play the lion dude summon another and then play another from hand heal 21 hp for free in one turn whilst clearning everything
The only card I really disagree with the assessment on is Sathrovar, I actually think its a bit better than you say; I mean didn't see play in a pretty good OTK Paladin for quite a while as a way to get more copies of Shenvala? Niche but it was good there. Just the same Good video, I think you were on point.
I liked marin the fox id get all exited when i played him knowing i can break the chest or even when i was running out of cards on hand hoping i got goblet
I was olaying jade druid just after Vargoth was released ( I'm sorry). But there was no better feeling than hitting Vargoth into Hecklebot off an Oaken Summon
sathrovarr is really really bad but i had fun useing it with lurker below back in the day where the gameplan of the slow bad shamen i was playing is hero power as much as possble to lurker and then lose anyway
I think I only play rez priest when I hate every other meta deck (same thing with secret mage, it feels like I’m trying to punish people for playing stale decks by doing the most annoying deck I can)
how dare you forget the best pre-release card of all, Volcanosaur e: lol damn thats what i get for only looking at timestamps. leaving this comment as a mark of my shame.
Sathrovar did have a decent use in Wild Maly Druid. Unfortunately, that archetype was on its way out when that combo was figured out. Vargoth was also pretty good in Time Warp Giants Mage back when it was the dominant deck in Wild, especially in Reno Quest Mage
I guess statistically renathal was a “hit” but it literally makes me hate the game lol, the meta just feels so boring now with about half the decks, statistically, at 40 HP
