I'm not trying to be an "animal elitist" like you called it, or anything. I just really love cats and have a lot of experience with them. I hope you read this! :) A cat's diet and how they receive their food is one of the most important parts of them having a healthy and happy life. Grain is definitely awful for cats. I would stay away from that. Also, if the food has food coloring, salt, sugar, guar gum, or pretty much any ingredient that isn't a whole food you should stay away from giving it to Scorn on a daily basis or even at all. They may enjoy it, but in the long run it can be detrimental to their health. It's actually great that Scorn likes wet food! Wet food is a great way to prevent kidney problems and keep your cat healthy. Also, most cats find it way tastier than dry food. You should probably feed Scorn meals 2-3 times a day instead of leaving down dry food. Especially after he gets neutered (assuming he's not already). That can cause him to become overweight and have massive health problems. A lot of cats don't know when to stop eating. Lastly, I really hope you consider hand feeding Scorn at least sometimes. It's a great way to control their food intake and to bond. I've noticed improvements in all of my kitties I've worked with after they've been regularly hand fed. It's such a nice thing. Hope this wasn't too long and I didn't ramble!

Richie, I promise when I say this I'm not trying to be a pet elitist. (Though I'm not one of those people who previously commented about the subject.) You do need to feed your cats a decent food. It doesn't have to be horribly fancy but as a warning my cousin used to feed her cat cheap cheap food and he ended up urinating blood. It was pretty bad. And obviously having treats is fine. I'm talking his regular food. Just be careful.
Dry food is not good for cats because unlike dogs they don't drink enough water so it eventually damages their kidneys the wet food provides the cat with enough moisture dry treats are ok every now and again!
You're right, but adding a water fountain, so your kitties have a moving water source can definitely help with that. Cat's instincts tell them that moving water is healthier, so they'll drink more, especially if you're feeding a dry food that's formulated to support urinary tract health.
If you only feed wet food their teeth may rot quickly. Dry food actually cleans their teeth a bit. I learned that cats do not like their water dish next to their food dish, they don't want to drink contaminated water. But she will drink water from the dogs bowl

The unfortunately gross reason cats love cheap food/treats is that grain based food is basically sugary junk food and it’s usually sprayed with awful (as in tongue/liver/organs) so it smells really good to them and gives them that lovely kitty food smell. Mine would gladly eat $2 food all damn day, thanks old neighbour who kept feeding him shitty food, which makes his ass smell like a nuclear dump.. but he’s fortunately decided to like the $20 grain free stuff and now he doesn’t stink so much.. win win.
I haven’t eaten cat food since I was two. I kind of want to keep it that way. Your descriptions of the foods make me glad I don’t remember what it tasted like. My sister tricked me into eating it. She was evil when she was five.
Kidney failure isn't a joke... Ugh I don't want to be that person but a cat's digestive system isn't designed to digest the crap that is put into cheap food. Some cats do okay on it, a lot don't. Food that is closest to what they would eat in the wild is best. Google it, it's a rabbit hole. Beneful is a great example of a terrible dog food. Among other things, the fda found melamine in it.

He should be eating a kitten specific food until he's a year old, to make sure he's getting all of the nutrition he needs. I've fed all of my foster kittens regular Purina kitten chow supplemented with friskies paté wet food.
If you want him to eat dry food here is a tip. Get a handful of dry food and then give him half a can of wet food. Mix them together and hopefully this helps...?

Hey Richie, I'm not sure how often you actually fill up his bowl to the brim, but you should try to keep it that full or feed him on a plate instead. The sides of the bowl can brush up against his whiskers and give him a sort of sensory overload. I have five cars and they used to all refuse to eat their food like, fifty percent of the time until I started doing this.

We give our cats BFF wet food. Everything they need and nothing they don't. Plus the shrimp is whole baby shrimp which is cute and makes me feel good about not affording a raw diet
He needs to have wet food also. Male cats can have problems with getting blocked in their waterworks. It can kill them. I’ve had 5 male cats in my life and four of them had to have surgery to save their lives. Our current ginger beauty is Fergus. He’s quite healthy.

My 3 indoor kitters only eat Whiskas dry food, their names are Victor Von Doom, Heavy Tunage the 2nd & Mr.Thor, all 3 are over 10lbs, where as my dog Betty Boop is only 5lbs, she is minpin/shitzoo/chihuahua
