Personally, I don’t think it feels all that rushed, more that they got the news in the middle of making season two and had to rewrite a couple of things on the fly. I think it worked. Also, it wasn’t cancelled, Disney slashed the third season
@@littlemrsmods7998 I think it was cancelled at some point during season 1's airing, and season 2's production. That's why some of season 2's episodes feel rushed because of them being condensed from 2 full seasons (season 2 and 3) to one season and three one hour specials.
I didn't think I'd like Owl House as much as I did, but especially once Season Two started and King got more development, and Hunter was involved more, I just immediately fell in love with it. I'm a sucker for the found family trope and especially for the "these kids are traumatized and the only adults in their life don't know how to deal with it at all" version. I felt the same with the dynamic part at first, but when I went back and watched it, it kind of made sense, especially after we got some more context to Eda and Lilith's past and why Eda probably felt the way she did when she got to know Luz even just a tiny bit better. Season two sucker punched me straight in the face. We all had our suspicions, but some of it just comes out of nowhere, but not in a bad way. I'm explaining it really bad, mostly bc I'm still stuck all up in my feels, but holy shit. Just holy shit.
With what you’ve watched of owl house I totally get it and was in the same boat BUTTTTT lemme tell you this show knows how to turn tropes on their head in the best way possible and I implore you to hold horses till the season 2 finale (and maybe make a video on it because there’s a Lot you could cover but who am I to judge I’m not your mom )
That’s not even a little true. The tropes are so bad the characters are cringey and sound completely unnatural. And I don’t see whole season 2 makes a difference.. as if we need to start taking LGBTQ content like a drug that we are addicted to? I cannot help, but feel rubbed the wrong way when we are fet/sh/sed this way.
@@mattybrunolucaszeneresalas9072 I actually really agree with the f3t/5h/z4t/0n part. As a queer person it still kinda irks me the wrong way when other members of the LGBTQIA+ community get baited by the blalant pandering from the cishet executives. I personally don't think that TOH is any sort of insensitive in that remark, though. It obviously does feature overused LGBT tropes especially in the main relationship between Luz and Amity (And don't get me started on the incredibly easily misinterpreted "Teenage Gay" trope. Really seems to intensify the "It's just a phase" arguments from cishet family) , but it's imo far from a lot of other "representation" in media.
@@inferno9218 lol which “teenage gay trope”? XD I don’t like how amity becomes weak and Luz is now big strong 💪 and Amity feels safer around her? Like from a life or death standpoint not the emotionally vulnerable standpoint, I get that, but that doesn’t mean you ignore the magic and battle skills sHeS accumulated over the years.
@@AthenaPOfficial It’s such a good show, a little serious, but mostly light hearted. Taken from the perspective of a fat girl trying to live life normally after her psychiatric stay.
I said the same thing about heartstopper before I watched it and now I’ve watched it 8 times and I bought solitaire and the first two volumes of the heartstopper graphic novels. To say I’m obsessed is an understatement.
Well I’ve watched it and read the godforsaken WebToon and my conclusion still remains the same. It’s honestly cringing and I don’t know why anyone would lay their eyes on a word of this. I feel like being proud of this is like been proud of a Wattpad. I’m looking at you *_After!_*
You should DEFINETLY watch Infinity Train next. Its such an amazing series with interesting themes and characters and so tightly written i think you would enjoy it so much
I think the joke with Hooty is that it's voiced by Alex Hirsch, creator of Gravity Falls and boyfriend of TOH creator Dana Terrace. He also voices King and a bunch of other characters in TOH, Gravity Falls, and even Amphibia. They poke fun at the horrible voice he uses for Hooty but the whole punching bag thing really goes away after Knock, Knock, Knockin' on Hooty's Door. A lot of the audience, myself included, couldn't stand him until that episode and onwards.
I'm torn, between the part of me that totally thinks that season 2 of the owl house is really good and it is my comfort show and needing to accept that sometimes a show doesn't click for a person. Anyways, all of the other takes are good, especially umbrella academy, that show made me cry like crazy. Also, you should watch the rest of she'ra it's a bop.
I think the way you feel about TOH is the same way I feel about Amphibia, I didn't really love season 1, but it just got so much better in season 2 and season 3 was espectacular! So yh, definetly finish watching TOH
New sub! As an Owl House Fan, I honestly expected you to give it a C or a D with how the thumbnail played it up 😂 P.S: If I ever get my cartoon off the ground, I'll definitely hit you up for a role! I like your voice lol
Omg thank you so so much!!!! (Had to clickbait just a bit hahaha bc it’s not that I don’t like it I just expected to like it even more) and omg that means a lot to me thanks again!
I really think that you need to watch the entirety of TOH season 2!! I agree that season 1 isn't the greatest, and agree with many of the issues you had here, but Season 2 has possibly some of the quickest turnaround for a shows quality I've ever seen.
I actually dropped owl house after episode 16. I had completely different issues with the series. Although Hooty's role as "the punching bag" bothers me, I had way less of a problem with Hooty's role than I did with Willow's role. If I ever start a youtube channel, I will talk about season 1A Willow. Then I watched it again with my boyfriend because I saw how good the season 2 finale was via reviews. I think I skipped season 1 B entirely because my boyfriend just watches things without me and so we picked off at season 2 and I really like it now. My favorite thing is that I saw spoilers but I still get a bit blindsided by things because I think the only way to spoil the show is by summarizing it beat by beat. Hooty also gets justice there's an episode where the whole family has issues and he tries to help them and now he is my best friend's favorite character.
OKAY SO, I suggested OFMD episode 1, but it’s def not the best episode. You should keep watching its so good, and SO GAY past the Pilot!! I’m sure you would like it if you kept watching :))
I feel like Centaurworld would be a good show to reccomend. Also this video alone made me realize that I've been a secret musical theater kid my whole life.
Something that I find to be really interesting across the community is most people who love Amphibia don't like owl house and vice versa 🤣🤣 because I loved owl house (The story, the pacing, the characters) and I am struggling to get into Amphibia~ Can barely make it through episode one.
I Love Amphibia, She-Ra and The Owl House. If I’m being honest they might be my fav shows ever but I kinda agreed with you before on The Owl House, I used to not like it that much and something just felt off but I kept watching it anyways and now I’m addicted.
I agree, the owl house is good but a lot of the time the characters feel really cliché and evolve so quickly. The dialogues are also kind of stereotypical and shallow. Plus, i didn’t realize the punching humor thing until you mentioned it, but it’s true that it just feels violent and unnecessary, just like when Lilith punched Philip etc. I know people keep babying Amity and even though I like her, her character arc couldn’t have been more cheesy, sometimes I feel like I’m reading a bad fanfiction.. But yea I still appreciate the show for the world building and the relations between each characters, as well as some strong episodes
I mean, the point of Lilith punching Phillip was not necesseraly the joke, but to show how Phillip got the scar on his nose. I agree The Owl House is not perfect, especially Season 1. It has good episodes but also mediocre episodes as well. Season 2 on the other hand is amazing in my opinion, it almost has zero bad episodes. And about the characters evolving fast, they don't really have a choice, because of the cancellation of S3. The fact that they had to rush the story in S2 and still managed to make it this good is mindblowing.
She-ra is my favorite show, considering it has diversity, life lessons , a good plot line , Amazing characters, the characters have amazing relationships and, the characters are so relatable. I’m so glad that you like it to not many people like and say it’s over here rated. So it nice to know I’m not the only one who likes it🙂
I totally get where you’re coming from on the Owl House. I originally started watching it because my sister loves it and I wanted to have something to talk with her about. I was nervous going in because I hate horror and that’s a big part of the show and at times it still puts me off but I started really digging the show by season 2.
Talking about Amphibia, I CRIED for three days after watching the show’s finale, I genuinely loved everyone in there and every time I watch any bit of the show I wanna cry or tears start to appear
Omg you did ouat!!! That's one of my fav shows ever honestly and to see you do it is just it makes me so happy and your opinion is so close to mine and I respect it when I disagree
Somehow I knew as soon as you said season 2 that he'd recommended *that* episode of Criminal Minds. Personally, I'd go with LDSK, but that may be because it has Timothy Omundson...
I thought he would recommend Revelations but somehow the one he chose is worse 😭all in all not the best episode to represent the show and id personally recommend something better but thats just me loll
Great review Athena....even though my love for 'The Owl House" does not match you! LOL! 🤣I agree some shows were either to rushed, to cheesy, or some plots were not needed, but some shows had awesome turn outs! I need to do reviews on my channel, that'd be fun haha!
I have the same problem with the owl house 😭 I just can't like it, but I can't think of any reason on why I don't. I just can't. I'm absolutely obsessed with Amphibia though
Me too! I think people misunderstood my criticisms in the owl house section bc regardless of all that I think Disney’s stifling of the show is terrible and it deserves the time it needs to be told
@@AthenaPOfficial hey!... um a little late... But... I think you should watch season three of the owl house! Idk if you fully watched season 2 or not (if you haven't then please do) but the first episode of season three came out in October! The episode is 46 minutes long so it might take some time but... I really want to see your thoughts on the episode!
Idk if you're doing a part two to this, but a show I'd recommend is Ever After High. Definitely start with the first episode for context but if your not hooked then try season 4 episode 1.
If you ever do another id definitely recommend ROTTMNT. Either Clothes Don't Make the Turtle, Mystic Library or Lair games. Its one of if not THE most dynamic and well animated western animation cartoons I have ever seen and the character dynamics and writing is SUPERB. The plot perfectly fine but the whole gripping point of the show Is the characters. Its also incredibly progressive with having many LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent coded characters (one of which is canon, The creator confirmed that Donnie has autism which is just such good rep like what). As well, a few of the characters and storytelling tactics were inspired by community and if you liked that id defiantly recommend this, as well as watching community fully if you haven't because ISTG it is so good. This show has no business being so emotional and funny and creative for what it is. Also its part of the unjustly-cancelled-because-big-Hollywood-was-scared-of-what-would-happen-if-it-reached-it's-full-potential gang but could be re-picked up if enough people start talking about it!
Just watched like 5 of your videos in a row and I love your vibes. The fact that you put Owl House in mid-ish A-tier and were prepared for a torrential downpour of hate for feeling like that would be too low? You get it. You get it. I'm subscribed. But also, to be clear, PLEASE finish season two of Owl House and then I'll believe you if you still don't love it.
Some episodes of South Park you should REALLY watch is Make Love Not Warcraft, You’re Getting Old, Assburgers, Raisins, Butters’ Very Own Episode, Scott Tenorman Must Die, and Osama Bin Laden Has Farty Pants. These episodes are awesome. Give ‘em a try!
Everyone’s taking about The Owl House, but no one’s talking about Our Flag Means Death ?? Girl trust me when I tell you I GET IT, I too find it really hard to stand cruelty against genuinely kind characters - however, trust me as well when I tell you IT DELIVERS. I do not want to spoil anything, but it’s absolutely worth finishing the season - because you haven’t yet been introduced to a character which changes everything (for the better). You’re in for great surprises. Also, I’mma be honest, I much prefer season 1 of The Owl House than Season 2. People are always saying “ohh Season 2 is where it REALLY gets good”, and I always think…. is it really ? It just chooses a weak story direction, and idk it just doesn’t seem to even know what it wants to be (a very common problem with modern cartoons - looking at you SU). Season 1 is great, though - it might be more slice of life, but it’s just much more cohesive and deals with world building pretty well (something I can’t really say about Season 2). Also also, I f*cking despise Steven Universe past Season 3. It’s just so, so bad. Absolutely abominable writing.
Finding this video after The Owl House ended, maybe give it another shot? The show was a bit rushed cause Disney forced them to shorten it, but I think they did a great job with it, and the finale is *chefs kiss* wonderful. Also as an Owl House fan, I apologize for Owl House fans.
@@AthenaPOfficial By the finale I meant that I wasn't a fan of the Diamonds' being redeemed. But besides that, I did kinda enjoy it. The movie slapped, made me happy! And SU: Future was a mixed bag. I cried once I binged watched the whole series for once and finally watched the movie. But yes, the songs were good lol
I also really enjoyed the first season of once, it was difficult to find the time to watch those long episodes. After season one though, it gets a little more confusing, and you start getting mad at the characters. I think the series was going on for the duration of multiple writer's strikes, so parts of it were probably written by directors and actors, but overall, I really like it.
your feelings about the owl house are valid, im a bi puerto rican person and when i heard luc was a bi latina protag i was happy but the show just doesnt for me
Jim Hensons, the story teller was always special to me… beautiful stories and fables from cultures around the world, brought to life by Jim Henson, “Hans, my Hedgehog” is a good start and it’s episode one, I think it’s on RU-vid…. A series that is much harder to find, but pushed the boundaries of controversy with not only its subject matter, but premise, was Wondershowzen, you should also start with episode one, I think it’s titled Mexico… Season two was rushed and is utter garbage, but the first season was a masterpiece
Wow, I actually came across someone like me who likes Amphibia more than The Owl House. It feels great. I don't know, the story, humor, and characters in The Owl House just don't click for me in the same way as they do in Amphibia. And yes, I did watch all the seasons for The Owl House.
Came here from the other video and when she read those comments abt the owl house my jaw DROPPED 😭 no way yall are this serious about a tv show- like I like TOH but not enough to harass people about it 🙂
1) you were right about my Owl House reaction, it’s a work of goddamn art (which btw you should keep watching because the golden guard is precious and the final episodes come out this week,) but also I have a few other recommendations based on your interests. 1a) Centaurworld: it’s a animated piece about a horse and rider who end up in different universes united by the same war. It’s a musical master work where your laughs will be matched by tears because it’s that goddamn good. At least watch the pilot and see what you think, though the whole series is absolutely fantastic and has a great soundtrack. 1b) Galavant: think” once upon a time but it’s hilarious and every episode is the musical episode.” In specific I think it’s Season 2 episode 1 that I liked the best with the song “off with his shirt.” For a musical theatre nut like myself you might love these P.S. also check out Gravity Falls as it was a major influence for Owl House and Amphiba
Thank you for the suggestions! Planning on making a part 2 at some point so adding these to the list! I’m gonna watch more of owl house for sure as well hahaha
Miraculous gets a lot better and more fleshed out later on and there is so much LORE.....except season 4. Here's hoping season 5 gets back on track Also once upon a time gets a bit crazy with its relationship0s and family ties but its fun imo
Everything you said about The Owl House was so valid and I'm sorry for the hate comments you got on this video. I'm a new subscriber and I'm binging all of your videos, and so far I have yet to disagree with you on anything. I love The Owl House with my whole heart, but the first season was flawed as heck. Sorry not sorry to the stans, but you *KNOW* Dana Terrace would hate the amount of toxicity within the fandom if she saw these comments. Atrocious, be ashamed of yourselves.
Seriously. It’s honestly embarrassing having some fans of TOH who can’t take criticism easily. There’s nothing wrong with someone disliking your show, so why be rude about it 😕
i totally get not liking the owl house. it's (clearly) my favorite show, but your criticisms are 1000% valid. i honestly agree with a lot of them. i've loved hooty since day 1 and i hated how everyone treated him prior to "knock knock knockin' on hooty's door". as other people have said, part of the reason it feels so rushed is because the show was given a limited amount of time to do what it had to do after they cut season 2 short. besides, your opinions of a lot of the other shows i enjoy were relatively high, so i can't complain too much.
Heartstopper is probably the best adaptation ive ever seen. I think cuz Alice Osman helped produce it. ANyway Tori is a god and I cant wait for a Solitaire movie/series. And i found most of the season one episode of TOH boring, like non-story related episodes. I think thats why i LITERALLY SKIPPED HALF OF AMPHIBIA just for the story. ik this is a year later but if you finished the series after it got cancelled, its fantastic, the Finale is everything, Hunter and The Collector are everything, Lumity is everything, its amazing
South Park is definitely an acquired taste haha. Everything that came out before the movie is pretty mid imo. After that they get a bit more social commentary/satire focused. It's definitely not for everyone though.
honestly the show im mad about your rating of is one you didnt even officially rank. people always talk so much shit about steven universe future but its genuinely my favorite show ever, specifically future and not just su in general, but i do love su in general. its mainly cause i relate heavily to steven in it though, among other things
ok as a south park fan: fair assessment. HOWEVER i swear on my rear end this show has its good moments if you ever decide to check it out again i would HIGHLY suggest either the first episode, Kenny Dies, or Butters Very Own Episode [or whatever its called] because sometimes its good. i really wish that follower reccomended one of the actually good or funny episodes like damn
I came back to let you know that season 2 episode 8 (I think, it could be 9) of owl house is an entire episode dedicated to hootie and him solving everyone else’s problems
Your videos always make me laugh, I hope you make another of these! If you do or are bored, I recommend the "Degrassi" franchise, it's like an educational trashy soap opera. For Next Generation I think the first two episodes would be a good start, the first and second episode on s2 is good too and don't need much explanation but a very fun episode would be s3 and ep53 with references from the breakfast club and just teenagers being teenagers, from what I remember the stakes are very low in that one. The original 70s one for Degrassi junior high would be "Dog Days" ( I do not remember the episode number sorry) and Degrassi high would be Show Time Part 1 and 2.
If you ever do another one of these videos I suggest Degrassi The Next Generation s4 episodes 7&8 Time Stands Still (the storylines are often split between two episodes that are 20 minutes each). There’s a lot of really famous episodes but I would suggest this one if you’re not starting from the beginning because it’s a storyline a lot of non degrassi watchers are familiar with already (Drake’s character jimmy).
I like Owl House better then Amphibia. I kinda pair these two together, because I watched them one after another, or they were on at the same time (?). I just get fascinated when people have opposite interests as me =w=. Then you listed off your reasons, and I said, "fair". I didn't care for Umbrella Academy that much. It felt too...uh...negative (?). I didn't like the family throughout the series so far never got along? Hardly. Or, mean to each other, and it hardly changes? I know, it's part of the show, so I know it's a preference of mine, but I love found family tropes, and this is an antitheses of that. I would put that in B tier, or something. I did enjoy it, but that found family antitheses thing dampens my enjoyment. Everything else seems agreeable after that, kinda similar, I guess. I haven't watched Supernatural for a long time, used to be obsessed, i dunno maybe if I go back I'll revisit that obsession. :P
Oh my god Athena, you are literally speaking through my brain right now lol! Amphibia is my favorite show in the whole entire world, and as a pansexual witch Halloween lover I should adore TOH, and although I do love it, it’s the same thing that you are saying!!!! There’s just something missing from that click. I’ve never had a video resonate with me so much with that haha 😆 Like I watched every episode of the owl house and I like some of the characters a lot, even relate to them, but I just can’t be into it the way I’m into Amphibia! 🤷♀️
WATCH SEASON 2 OF TOH, TRUST ME!! King becomes VERY VERY VERY useful, hooty is apart of the gang SO SO MUCH and he isn't hated anymore! Amity and Luz DEFO get more time and understanding. Please watch s2 then make a new tier list vid about it
I understand, Season 1 is definitely not the best, but Season 2 is simply amazing, just saying if you wanna watch and give the show another chance. But I understand, it's not for everyone.
I love owl house and she ra but a tier for owl house is till good. It's my current favorite show and I also love the fact that luz is from my state that basically nobody remembers... Connecticut. We are one of the original 13 states and we are still not remembered much
I know it's been a while since I've commented... But here me out. Watch the 2003 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Series. More specifically the episode Insane in the Membrane.
Wow, the negative comments about yr Owl House evaluation really were overboard! [as shown in "The Lore of Special Agent Oso"] I would personally put it in S tier, but yr point about how rushed some things seem is valid, and that's not even counting how Disney's upper management limiting the show's run hit them with massive crunch, exacerbating the pacing issue. I hope you enjoy the bond Lilith & Hooty develop with nicknames. [tho personally I want to call him The Owl HOSE!] And I expect you indeed will enjoy Hunter and perhaps The Collector! Had I been able to suggest a show, I would have had to try to say My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, but may have had trouble recommending a specific episode. [Perhaps a follow-up video?] Alas, of the ones that most easily come to mind, I'm not sure I could pick a favorite: s2e18 "A Friend in Deed" has one of my favorite songs, s4e18 "Maud Pie" introduces my favorite non-"mane" character, s4e12 "Pinkie Pride" introduces my favorite guest star {all 3 of those episodes focus on the same "mane" character; I wonder why} s3e13 "Magical Mystery Cure" starts with a punny title, has great songs to the point of basically being a musical, a major milestone, & more, s6e8 "A Hearth's Warming Tail" the obligatory retelling of "A Christmas Carol" but done VERY well ["A spirit? But I didn't cast any spirit-summoning spells!"], with several amazing songs, s2e24 "MMMystery on the Friendship Express" the obligatory whodunit ["Who DID it"], done fairly well and memorably {and the title is missing an M; dundunDUN!}, s2e25-26 "A Canterlot Wedding" [horse pun!] has problem with a few characters acting uncharacteristically but is otherwise excellent, with one of the best villains, in her best showing of the whole series, and a GREAT song (which hides an obscure but I think cute music theory pun), s4e25-26 "Twilight's Kingdom", tho certain 'key' prior episodes can help understand a few parts they're not crucial, introduces a good villain, and gets pretty epic, with practically an anime climax--putting some shows' "we won with the power of friendship" to shame, s9e23-24 "The Ending of the End" with great confrontations, & an epic climax bringing in all kinds of characters from the series & even the tie-in movie, including every real villain & former real villain, except for that from the movie, and s2e1-2 "The Return of Harmony" introduces my 2nd favorite guest & another excellent villain, who is another flavor of fun, appears & disappears with a bright white flash, has a fondness for "games", snaps his fingers to use his powers, and is not just "next of kin to chaos" but the self-proclaimed "Lord of Chaos"! [with a similar-sounding voice to that one guy...] _"Make sense? Oh, what fun is there is making sense!"_
