Hello Buildzoid. I am the first memory OC. I in fact do not know what I am doing. I come to your videos to try and get an idea of what I am doing. Thank you for your feedback. I was having a ton of stability issues at a couple of lower timings, but I will definitely try disable ecores and come back. Thank you!
@@neilpirelli9240 are you being sarcastic or do you actually believe it? Can you give some context? Assertions without explanation can be dismissed without explanation. 💩

Massively enjoyed that. Part two would be cool, more random chips or sticks would be cool if there are more in the responses. Look for the 96gb lunatic... Probably loads of revE Ryzen like mself already.
Buildzoid being absolutely savage to his viewers. Love it! Slightly mean but very constructive Gonna post my settings as well to get roasted :D (I hope)
I just picked up my first intel chip which is a 12600k, and can get 5.4 allcore at 1.275v on a 120mm evga aio!!! thanks buildzoid for the memory oc tips!!!
Your comment about YT deleting links made me realize how much time and effort I spent for absolutely nothing, lol. OC pics here, articls and forum posts there, and they just silently take it down? Would have been nice to at least get notified, even if it's to be told to forget about posting such crap on their platform, but at least now I know lol.
It'd be great to see more. A million identical B-die tunes might be a bit much, but there's a lot of potential in setups that aren't 2x8GB B-die. If you ever take submissions from the patreon discord I could post a couple...
is the new smart thing to to set tras lower then the old trcd+tcl? It used to be that if you went below it there was a possible performance hit as the system can't really use below a certain amount and has to subsititue the number. But since we can't change trc is it smart to use that to lower it?
Got my bdie run 5000 cl 16 @1.8v for pi benching and geek. 4800 cl 15 on 3d benchmark. Partiot viper 4400 eith cezzane 5600g, just posted late on tweeter. And yes i bought this ram upon seeing yours and my fellow teammates recomendation 🥰
hello, one question, should I get a build with i7-12700 and ddr5, since it is said that the ddr5 are now not the best I wanted to ask you what I should pay attention to when choosing a motherboard as optimized as possible on the hardware side with this ddr5 technology in view of the future (even bearing in mind to overclock the RAM in the future to 6000 / 6400MHz)? if you can recommend some technical specifications, or what should I give more importance in choosing the mobo knowing that the goal is to get one that I would use with RAM banks more mature than I would buy in 1/2 years when the ddr5 will no longer be "immature". So hypothetically it goes better than the others with DDR5 of the future in practice😅. I ask you pk informing me I noticed a big difference between models of ddr5 motherboards, both for problems that some cards give and others not, and for better or worse optimization of the hardware. Thanks in advance for your patience :)
he noticed my spectek chips in the 2nd one, ill try the sub timings settings later on and report back, because this memory really hates going above 3600 or going below 21 in 3600 along with spitting anything above 1.4v giving me headaches for 2 days before settling on this one, then again the ram cost $65 converted brand new soo yea... to be expected i guess, thank you for the suggestions also with thaipoon the memory type doesn't even come out, its just undefined and just says transcend, the only way to know is by taking a pic of the chip which i probably should
Oh I made it. Thanks for the suggestions. I'll definitely try 3600. And yes tRFC is on Auto, my motherboard is weird, RFC says 312 idk if that's ns or what. Update: I hate RAM overclocking 😂, having trouble with stability no matter what I do.
Can e-cores cause error to appear when they shouldn't? I was running HCI up to %1200 error free, with the 140mm RAM fan on about %50 PWM and I was getting 30 celsius msx temps on RAM. I then decided to turn the fan as low as possible and mem temps went to 37c max but I was getting quite a lot of errors on many threads in a short time just going from %1200 to %1300. Running 12700k stock. How is it possible it was running error free for almost a day at 30c max temps but at 37c lots of errors showed up in a short period of time?
@@ActuallyHardcoreOverclocking Oh really is that so? Since this is my first rodeo OCing ram, having read on reddit OC forums I was under the impression that with B-Die those errors only show up at 45c~50c+. I'm on Z690 D4, 2x16GB dual rank at 3800-14-14-14-30 with very similar subtimings to the ones posted in recent Z690/D4 videos.
@@Ben-ld1qi it depends on the sticks and the settings you're trying to run. The more aggressive your timings the more temperature sensitive the RAM gets.
@@ActuallyHardcoreOverclocking Alright thanks for clearing things up. Because I initially thought that there was something wrong seeing errors at 'only' 37c. I'll experiment a bit to see if I can run error free in the high 30's celsius with looser subtimings. Thanks again!
I'm confused why you wouldn't stress test with e core's on. If you turn them off for ram testing and not do a stress test how do you know they'll be stable?
Man I’m glad I came across this video. My frustration may be in the damn ram I have. I have terrible micro stutters I’ve tried everything but swapping the ram. What ram for a 5800x3d should I buy. I don’t know squat about tuning
What's a good way to check how many ranks a memory kit has or even just what chips it has? The talk about replacing a single rank with another single rank kit reminded me I don't really know the best way to go about buying ram.
You know… I have an MSI x470 gaming pro and every time I touch the RAM timings shit goes haywire. 2700x, Trident Z 4133 CL19 2x8GB kit. I think I just killed my motherboard, it won't POST, it just blinks once after I press the clr_CMOS button. I'm going to look through your videos for a good x570 board and see what I can impulse buy.
Hello Buidzoid. I have a system with a "mutant" processor (interposer BGA1440 to LGA 1151). It´s a intel ES QTJ1, a 9 to 10 generation, with 8c/16t. There´s a problem with this setup, for some misterious reason, no one was able do reach more than 2800mhz. So now I´m trying to find good timings for the memories. The memories are XPG ADATA 3600mhz ( I bouth it thinking the system was able). Did you made tests with interposers or this memories?
You call it a low effort video, but you end up spewing out information that I'm sure will prove useful to me with my new 5600G I'll be building soon with CMK16GX4M2Z3600C14. Wouldn't have thought 4400 was doable, but now I'm excited for my first Ryzen RAM tuning experience.
I am currently building my workstation (5950x/570/2x32G 3600 CLK18 atm prob go with 64 more, hopefully moderate timings in the end) ... this content is really helpfull, even for me "normie" ;-) ... Need longtime (5+ years) stabilty ... cheers.
hey ''Actually Hardcore Overclocking'' i have an issue with an rtx 3080 dell oem the light was flickering on the gpu when its under load all the sudden and the gpu acted like it was limted in power it couldent pass the 188 watts mark so i just turned off the computer and turn it on agian the gpu doesnt even turn on no fan spin or lights anymore i have this issue with 3 gpus so far can you please help me.
ive got a gibayte z690i and the 2x16 kit of bdie ive got that i know can do 4000+ at decent timings (ran daily at 16-16-16-36) the board wont post at below c16 or above 3600 :(
Im running bottom of the barrel 3200mhz CL16 with fairly loose sub timings. But it does standard CL16 at 3200 and 1,35V so pretty average DDR4 to be fair. How much do you gain by tightening timings? Or going for 3400mhz at 1.5V? It probably wont do it anyways...
Well it seems Patriot viper 8GB 4000c16 x4 =32GB DDR4, on my 570X ASUS DARK HERO , have two XMP , the 4000cl16 is great 2x8 sticks , not 4x8 , but 3600cl14 x4 XMP is the sweet spot , Time Spy CPU only test is 1488 with XMP , with my 5950X / 4090 is more than enough for gaming and day to day use.
so i have, 5600G , B550I AORUS PRO AX, G.SKILL, (2x8GB) TridentZ RGB 3600MHz 16/19/19/19 1.35V (Hynix C-die), have pushed FCLK to 1900Mhz, RAM to 3800Mhz with VSOC 1.1V and RAM voltage 1.4V 16/19/19/19, but i can't get FCLK above 1900Mhz with keeping 1:1 ratio, you stated that 2300Mhz should be possible, that is with 1:1ration? I did tried all the suggestons from 1usmus RAM OC tool and even went very loose 20/25/25/25, but it will not boot up with anything above 1900Mhz FCLK/RAM. what am i missing?
16:30 Wait so that means I got lucky with my B-die 4000 cl16 and my 3200 cl14 kit both able to do 3800 cl14 with 14 TRCD's (technically the WR is 8) AND be able to run them both in a 4x8 config with the same (and even tigher) settings?
darn, wish I had seen that so I could have posted mine.. not that I have a twitter edit - holy crap I remembered my twitter login from an account I created.. uh.. a super long time ago, go me! When do we get part so I can send you my trash?? lol :D
This leaves me with many questions but, most of all, I have two 2x8 Team Dark Pro B die kits - one at 3200 and the other at 3600, both CL14. I'm running the 3600 kit on a B550m mortar with a 5950x. Is it worth running both kits at the limit of the 3200 kit in dual rank vs the 3600 kit at SR? I really don't care about 16GB vs 32GB, but does DR own SR hard enough to make that worthwhile?
My question in relation to the last reviewed setup, is how do you know if the RAM is rank 1 or rank 2 before purchasing it? I'm looking to buy a set of 2x16gb ram for my new 12400 B660 build. I was looking at GSkill Trident Z and Corsair RGB RS kits (both CL16), but nowhere do I see if they are rank 1 or rank 2. Seeing as I will be limited to 3200mhz ram I want to get the best performance I can using XMP without having to spend over $200. USD for CL14 B-Die kits. Are either of the two kits I mentioned rank 2, and if not, are there any recommended rank 2 kits at 3200mhz configured as 2x16gb that are CL16/reasonably priced?
The majority of 2x16gb kits are dual rank. The only one I know of off the top of my head that is not would be a Crucial Ballistix Rev.B 2x16gb kit. It might be worth you trawling reddit as there are a lot of posts about this and you may be able to avoid some. One problem you will have is that Corsair can use 4 or more different types of ram in the same kit, and they may well supply identical skus with single rank (micron rev.b) or dual rank (nearly everything else) and you won't know until it arrives - though I have not yet heard of any Corsair Rev.b turning up. There is a lot of info on reddit and other forums regarding trident z - it would be worth you googling specific kits for answers - they tend to be ok quality hynix memory (usually CJR) at lower speeds (anything cl14 is obviously samsung b-die).
@@malphadour Thank you very much for your very knowledgeable reply. I appreciate the information and I've taken you advise. The funny thing is that the whole reason that I started learning about ranks of ram is that I was looking at the Crucial Ballistix that was on sale at Newegg last week, and in the comments someone was complaining that Crucial switched from (previously) rank 2 memory to (currently) rank 1 memory on the 32GB kits without disclosing the change. He complained of the performance difference, so I wanted to learn about memory ranks and their effects on gaming performance. I think that the 3200mhz CL16 GSkill Ripjaws V or the Trident-Z for $20. USD (or so) more seem like good products based on what I've read, but I don't know if spending another $40.USD over the price of the Trident-Z for (TeamGroup) 3200CL14 B-Die kits warrants the price premium. My feeling is that it doesn't for my usage case. Thanks again.
@@stevenkono Hey Steven, glad I could help. The answer about the b-die kit is this: Do you need the best possible frame rate for competative gaming? If you do, then get the b-die, if you don't then at the end of the day getting a few extra fps is irrelevant. I have my ram tuned within an inch of its life (Crucial Ballistix 3600 cl16 running at 3800 with extremely tweaked settings) and it doesn't make any difference at all to my gaming as I play most stuff at 4k, and other stuff at 1440p, and my graphics card cant push enough fps for the ram bandwidth to make any difference. It also makes no difference to my video editing, or anything else that I do. There are huge amounts talked about ram, but it is actually the least significant part of the equation when it comes to performance gains. Its great fun (for fun read "extremely frustrating") to play with and tweak, but the real world improvements range from none in most cases to maybe 10% at max in a few very rare cases, and typically somewhere between 2 and 6% for some high fps games and the odd program that genuinely floods the available bandwidth. The same goes for dual rank - its real world gains are rare apart from the very odd program and very high fps gaming.
is it normal for ryzen 5600 to have lower fclk then my 3600? just got the 5600 this week its walled @ 3733 fclk i even tried abusive voltages still cant 3800, gave the wife the 3600 but i might take it back lol, overall the 5600 is faster but the 3600 sure gives it a run for its money with the 3800fclk difference. i'm bummed lol the 3600 can hit 58k reads in aida, still working on the 5600 but it just barely broke 50k, rest of the aida numbers are in favor of the 5600, especially latency, it shits on the 3600. moral of the story the 3600 is probably the best cpu on the am4 platform for what it was; even had pci 4.0 just that alone is wild. dont see intel cpu's from the same generation being competitive 10400 etc are trash.5500 is trash etc. its still an insane cpu, 3600's will still be used in 10 years easy, i consider them on par with gen 3 intel, ivy bridge was the last platform i used that was this good.
I managed to get 3733mhz cl14 13 13 13 28 36 1T (don't know my subT by heart) on bdie 🔱 Z @1.45v on a 5950x chip. Used to get 4000mhz then got random errors 3 months later. My memory controller is terrible though on the x570 Asus ROG . 😭. Love the video. How do I get mine to you to critique
That 4x8 GB B-Die has exactly same set of timings as my Strix D4 had with 2x16 GB 3200 MHz CL14. I begin to think there was a TERRIBLE batch of Z690 mobos from Asus and it's not really memory IC quality issue, I support that by the fact that I can set 4000 15-15-15 easily, but it will never be stable, it just _needs_ to be at 17-17-17. I've overclocked a lot of different DDR3 ICs and had a month worth of B-Die 2x8 4400 MHz CL19 on B560, that resulted in a 3700 13-14-14 (and other timings at lowest possible), there was never a case, where I could get these three primaries two ticks lower than the lowest stable tick and still boot at all, where here I could easily boot with 1.2 VA, 1.45 V VDDQ and 1.5 V DRAM and not be stable even at 1.6 V DRAM, 1.54 V VDDQ and a wide range of SA. Skew control also didn't help at all, direct fan cooled the RAM to be below 40 C at all times and errors were either within first 8 minutes or a single error after an error on a test, that supposedly ended like 40 minutes ago. There are also Apex and Extreme batches that are just garbage tier with 2022' batches being actually really good. Also, fun fact: changing core affinity from "all cores" to "p-cores only" ups power draw in TM5 but doesn't change how fast it goes. Kinda silly.
@@andrewschmier6749 it shouldn't, but there might be signal issues caused by the motherboard between IMC and RAM sticks. There's also a Z690 ASUS thread on overclock net, where some people RMAd their boards and after receiving new ones from recent batches they could either receive significantly higher clocks or significantly lower timings. I speak through my experience (which obviously isn't as broad as BZs) and there was never a case, where I could even boot with primaries set two ticks lower than lowest stable set, even my previous 4400 MHz CL19 B-Die SR kit from Patriot simply refused to boot with 3700 CL12 or 3700 13-13/14-14/13 and I've tried 1.6 V too (3700 13-14-14 stable with 1.54 V).
Hello, I am the 4x8GB BDie man, assuming you are talking about the first one. I can definitely set lower timings but like you said, I had trouble getting it stable. That's why I had a ton of random loose timings.

i'm currently side-grading from my 4x8gb 3200c14 g.skills to 4x8gb of the viper 4400c19. Is this dumb? Yeeah. Will i feel the difference in game? Nooo But it please my brain.

I think that doing this stuff is awesome and the time isn’t a big deal for me personally. Hearing what is good and what is the best options teaches us. Hopefully I can bring a kit to the table that’s impressive
Low effort on your side, high reward on both sides. We get all the do's and don'ts that come up during your reviews. And I think this will be very popular for your channel. The amount of variety you will get with this is super valuable. It's why it's so hard to make over clocking videos teaching people how to over clock. Everyone want to have numbers given to them just to punch in and not understand how each system and situation is different. Every chips IMC is different, the platforms different, each component different. And all those differences show, and the mistakes you point out help us all ensure not make those same mistakes. I love it, keep em coming.
