I thought that for a bit as well, but I figured it out. What you are thinking of is y x y, yes? That would be y^2, not 2 x y. 2 times y divided by y equals 2. Hope that helped.
Hi Patrick. I hope you are well. Please can you have a look at the following (x/x-1 -1) ÷ (1+ x/1-x) .. The answer should be -1. Mine comes 1. i cannot work out difference in the +ve/ -ve.
These videks are so helpful, but if you could do more lroblems like this involving cubic polynomials multiplied and divided at the same time with 3 different expressions, that would be very helpful.... My teachr is killing me with the real complex ones :(
Question: At 3:19 there is a "y" in the top left and a "2y" in the bottom right. You canceled both of the "y"'s out so that there was only the number 2 left in the bottom right. I thought that both terms had a common factor of "y" and therefore the top left "y' would cancel out and the bottom right "2y" would go down to just "y". Can anyone tell me why that isn't the case? Sorry if this is question is hard to understand.
I'm 2 years late to this but incase you didnt understand it, it's a coefficient of 2 hence it's the same as (2 x Y) and not y^2 so when it only has a 2 remaining it's because it eliminated the(x Y) from (2 x Y)
The last expression is 9/4 when y = 1. But the first expression is undefined. The last expression is 5/2 when y = 0. But the first expression is undefined.
No because dividing by a fraction is exactly the same as multiplying by its inverse (flipped version). For example 5 / (1/2) is the same as 5 * (2/1). That can also be written as 5 * 2 which equals 10 not 1/10.
