I wasn't sure about getting pet rats at first, but now I can't imagine life without them. They are the most fun and loving pets I've ever owned. Give these little guys a chance if you can.
The only problem is that their lives are so short. Its hard enough that our cats and dogs only live 10-15 years on average. Can't imagine having to say goodby in only 2-3 years.
I loved my rat more than any other pet I’ve ever had, but I don’t think I could do it again and recover, it’s too hard, the good ones are the most amazing things ever. I got 3 years and 5 months with my heart rate Sheepy, and it was amazing and wonderful and heartbreaking. Too short a time. 🤩🥰🐀🥹😢🫠
Tis true, they have such short lives, but keep in mind this important fact, you are their whole life. You're with them from when they are lil babies to when they pass to the great beyond. You are giving that sweet soul a good life.
I feel the same with my mice but I cant live without them in my life. Depending on their predisposed genetic health, they pass between 5 months and 2 years [a true miracle when they sometimes live 3-5 years]. It's difficult every time, and it always takes a little bit of time to heal before I can get a new buddy.
Thanks for watching, I really appreciate it. It is true that rats don't live for very long which is a difficult thing to come to terms with. When you befriend a rat you are their everything which is a comfort.
I’ve had 3 boys who have passed now, still get teary, miss them so much. Loveable, super clean, super funny, super intelligent, great company, only downfall is they only live about 3 years, but those 3 years are unforgettable. They are much unnecessarily maligned, nothing could be farther from the truth. Loved them so much. RATS MAKE GREAT PETS!
Fr... Me too Love, had 4 beautiful boys but I slowly started losing mine within a lifespan of 2yrs. Health problems like pneumonia and tumors taking them back n forth to the Vet. Get a stuffed version of all my boys that look pretty much like them except one. You can customize them to look like your babies. Hope this info helps xoxo to you Love we'll see our ratties waiting for us one @🌈🌉
Rats are my critters of choice. They have proven to be so loving, intelligent, clean, and would always have their own personalities…they are so misrepresented. I’ve always said …the only thing wrong with having a pet rat is their short lifespan…other than that they are PERFECT.
We love our rats and have had them show empathy when we are sad. They are smart and very loving. We just wish they would live longer. So far the oldest rat we've had was 3yrs & 3 months. We are going to keep having pet rats as long as it is possible for us to care for them ❤
Great video. I love my little rats so much. Unfortunately that 3 year mark is coming up soon, and I lost one a few months ago right before my birthday last year. The other two are hanging in there for now... Life is going to be so empty without them. They get all the treats and pets and love that I can manage. Such good and intelligent little babies.
Sorry to read that you lost your little one. Sounds like they all have an amazing life with you, hope one day when you feel up to it you can raise another mischief, rats need good friends 🐭
@@aerynp6018 Thank you. Honestly life is hard enough as it is, I want to give more of them a good, safe, happy home.. but I don't know if my heart can take anymore goodbyes like that. Work only gets busier, they deserve more of my time. What I really hope for is people finding your video and changing their minds, and maybe even giving some ratties of their own a chance. Their lifespan just isn't fair!!! :( to them or to us. I am glad to see your other shorts videos and how happy and inquisitive they are in them, you're doing good.
@@guydude7550 Thank you for adopting ratties. I hope if you get more they're adopted from rescues or ones who are being abandoned on craigslist or wherever. So many who need a good home. Thank you for caring for them and loving them so much. I still think of my ratties who died several years ago. I cannot afford more now, with their vet bills. Maybe again someday. It's true we need to have both the time and money to properly take care of them, neither of which I have now. But I think of them all the time and watching these videos helps.
Rats are extremely affectionate beings. ❤ Clever, sweet, trainable (even for potty & they're clean), entertaining, and loving. ❣️🎈 They make excellent pets/babies.
Many animals are misunderstood or unappreciated. Snakes, for instance, are really just legless lizards, not evil harbingers of doom. Sharks are not bloodthirsty killing machines. Rats have a reputation for being dirty and being carriers of pestilence and.... well, that was true, at a certain point of time, but it spoke more of the circumstances those rats were in than anything about rats themselves. Mice and rats are actually rather clean and generally harmless creatures. Granted, you don't want them chewing up your stuff or dumping feces wherever they please, but that's true of any animal.
Lovely video. My daughter got four boys three-plus years ago and I was surprised by how much I came to love them. They really are wonderful companions.
I love your short video. I have started raising rats since last year for the local pet store. BUT I make sure all my rats get love and attention. I treat them all as pets hoping that some will be baught as pets. Although I have my "special" few that get free run of the place while im there. I love how they beg for my attention and of course they get it. I can not say no to those sweet faces. It has been quite an adventure so far and i love spending at least 8 hours 7 days a week with them.
Yes sir... Ratta tatta tats are the most sweetest Pocket dog's. Rest Easy to all of us Rat parents who lost our babies. May we see them one day waiting for us @🌈🌉 all of our beloved pet's. We get hug, play, and kiss them forever. I'm happy the Indians worship and respect them at the Rat Temple.
I have 13 little female rattos, and the thing I love about them is how caring they are . They take care of each other, help each other, and show love to each other every single day. They even grieve when one of them passes away 😢. And of course, I get the biggest reward because they all love me ❤🤭
PTSD - my 3 boys changed my life. Cats, dogs, horses, nothing else worked. I wish i could get them 'service animal' qualified. They are the best pets ever. Their reputation is so unfair!
I love your comments about pet rats I agree they are the best❤I have had so many pet rats the only thing Momis that they leave You 😂 there lives are so short. I wish I could have another baby I call them that. Thank you again for helping rats they are special and so are you ❤ Terry😊
..aww, this is so lovely, I needed this today! Much love for these beautiful creatures and to all those who cherish, love and appreciate them, best wishes ❤
Not just their names, but they recognise themselves in the mirror... not many animals can do this... rats are incredibly intelligent... the only downside, is their short lifespan... 😔
Yes, they are wonderful, words can not say all, but their lives are too short. I went through a lot of heartache and sorrow because l love to have them. Now l have to control myself; not to have them because l can no longer manage the parting with them. Many poems were written for them that l keep to remember them always.
My lil' girl passed away in 2019. Since then, I haven't been able to take another one because I don''t wanna lose its again. She passed away in my hands at 7 am. I'm unable to foget her last breath in my hands
I'm really sorry to read of the loss of your little one. I think I am going to make a video about coping with the loss of our little friends - lots to people have spoken about it. I hope one day you can find it in your heart to care for another rat or two
Started out with "Momma" (her actual name is sugar because she is just so sweet). She was a breeder for feeders and preggers with her first litter when she came to me. She had 7 and I kept/saved 2 of them. Thought I had a total of 3 females- little did I know. Long story short, I now have 12 females (confirmed! No more "surprises" for me!). They are the most absolutely loving and sweet critters I could have ever gotten; took me 53 years to get there, but I couldn't imagine not having them. Know it will hurt so bad as they age and pass, but I couldn't imagine NOT having rats around now. Thing is, now, with having so many of the little mischief monkeys around, all wanting my attention and affection (and giving all that and more in return), it's the devil's time trying to keep them entertained!
It’s funny, reading the comments - several of us had similar experiences, in that we got Rat(s) as pets for our kids, and ended up enjoying them as much or more. My eldest son had a rat when he was around 12. I enjoyed him as much as my son. They are the antithesis of Street Rats. Domestic Rats are clean, smart, easily domesticated to like their humans, have personalities, and are fun to watch and interact with. They make excellent pets. Yes, they only live to approximately 3 years, which can be hard. The only thing I wish I had done differently was I should have got 2 Rats at the same time. It’s nice for them to have a buddy.
Your video is very well informed you accomplish the impossible Rats are the most loving sweetest pets anyone could ever be blessed with having they got the worse press possible because people see them in a bad way its truly unfortunate that ever happened, but videos like yours show insight and joy in Rat ownership, the only sad part they don't get a long life but the time you do get to enjoy these magical chaos potatoes makes it worth it ,thank you for sharing your lovies .
Years ago, my girlfriend at the time brought her hairless rat when she came to live with me. Marshall was just a big, rubbery ball of love. He never bit, loved to play, and was like a puppy. He would always come to the side of the cage by the front door to greet me for pets when I came home from work.
When we were young my brother and i bought feeder mice (the ones they give to snakes), 1 each. Mine lived to be about 3 and my brothers one made it to 5 years. They had a very good life
I ❤ my little potatoes. 🥰 Yes, short life span. I always say I'm ready but reality I'm not when the time comes. But you have to look at it from a brighter side, that you were their whole life and that you can save more and more and more 🐀🐁🐀!!!
I'm a medical biology student and sadly we started animal experimentation on rats this year. Even though they were never treated as pets they are always so incredibly trusting, and sensitive. I was in awe of how intelligent they were, how easily they could bond with humans. It wrecks me to have to sacrifice them, I've been trying to discuss the possibility of rehabilitation with my university but it's difficult. People are not open to it
"Oh, my God, oh, my God, oh, my God, so sweet, adorable, cute and lovable!! Just wish they lived longer than 24 to 36 months! I love, love, love, love them!!" ❤😂😢😮😅
I took my lab rat home from Research Methods class in College in 1982. I called him Sewer and he used to push the top off his 25 gallon tank and greet me at the door when I would come home from work. I was going to have to do brain surgery on him in my Advanced Nuerophisology class the next semester. He would roam free much of the time and interact with the Cats and a bird we had. Getting a lab rat that is bread to get tumors to live over 3 years is unusual. He would have made 4 years but I took a month vacation and my Friend free fed him. I did time restricted eating with him. I was doing intermittent fasting experiments for Kevin Seybold and Dr. Wiseman at UWM-Milwaukee☮️
We took in 2 rats from my son’s science class at the end of the school year. They were indeed the sweetest creatures. If I outlive my cats (I am 75), it might make sense to have pets with a shorter life expectancy.
Adore them, have had pet rats off and on at least 50 years now. My experience the boy rats are friendlier, more loving, attentive and playful. And CHEW A LOT LESS! I have a pair as pets right now and she's lost playtime privileges from chewing cords.
