Thank you so much! We were totally confused and ignorant about transportation in Israel. We were lucky, our friends took us around mostly by car, but couple of days we had to travel on our own. We wanted to pay in the bus, but both drivers refused to take cash and brought us where we needed for free! That was such a difference from Toronto! Although one of them was scolding us in Hebrew for 5 minutes (well deserved) but did not kick us out anyway. Looove Israelies! Tough outside, but always helpful and warm. ❤
Thank you so much! This was wonderful. So helpful. Our trip to Israel is next week. We bought your Jerusalem app. We love your style and sense of humor. Keep making videos.
My last trip to Israel was in 2019..Over the years I have made many trips to Israel…when I purchased this transit card I was told it is good for 5 years..I could reload the card next time I am in Israel…I kept my card…excellent information…toda raba….
This is a great video. Everything these days is on the phones, apps and internet,. it's good to see that this option is available for those of us who are not technology savvy! You explained very well and it all made sense. Thank you for this video.
Small note: on most modes of transport it's possible to pay for multiple people with one Rav-Kav using stored value. I wouldn't recommend it because usually it will display a Hebrew-only screen asking how many rides you want to pay for, but just saying it's not strictly necessary to buy one for each passenger.
I was thinking the same. If you swipe it once, and then again, it will ask if you really meant to swipe another time and how many more tickets you want to buy. It's not "obvious," but if you know what's happening, it makes sense.
Would be good to have a option for English menu on the screen to avoid confusion for international visitors. When I rescanned it came up a red picture to go to the driver. I walked up to bus driver and hand signaled 3 tickets and he pointed to the scanner and said good to go. I wasn’t really sure what happened. If you could please make a video about the info on the payment screen and how to pay for multiple people. Thank you for the video!

I just returned a couple of days ago. Wish I would have seen this video before I left. We always rent a car( that's a whole other video!) But we did decide to take the train into Machane Yehudah. We did find the instruction somewhat confusing and didn't realize that there was a 5 nis charge to buy the card and that each one of us needed a separate card the instructions could have been better. Having said that, the train was very convenient and clean. As a side note, my son joined us who lived in Israel prior to covid and his card still had a credit on it! He takes the public transportation everywhere and all over the country and has had no problems with it as far as I know.
I was there in September of 2022. I got a Rav Kav card at the airport at a kiosk. I used it all the time. It was awesome. I used it even for the new Rakavlit in Haifa. I could check the amount left on the card, and then load more money using just my smart phone.
No worries, Oren, t's all good content! No matter where I am travelling, I always do the same when departing and offer it to others at the airport or cruise port workers! 👍
When I was recently in Israel, I had trouble getting a Kav Card because some of the machines did not work. But once I got it, it proved useful. I could even use it on the Egged bus from Haifa to Tiberias, and from Tiberias to Jerusalem.
Just be very careful. I refilled my Rav Card on one of the station and money did not reflect. In the bus I was given a ticket by the checkers. Be very sure to refill from authorized person and also take a receipt for the same
I just never charged the card with humans due to potential language barrier. I’ve used train/tram station machines and Casponet ATMs where you can confirm before you leave.
Love your videos! Going to Israel next week and will be visiting a friend near Netanya, coming from the hotel/beach area. Will it be difficult to change buses? I'm a bit nervous....
Heyyyyyyy! How do you know I'm in Wisconsin???!! 😂😂😂 Thank you so much for all your excellent videos. I use Moovit and HOHO, myself, so I won't be getting a card anytime soon. However, I did watch the video till the end, and found it engaging, interesting and informative like all your content.. I enjoy your dry sense of humor also. 😂 Shabbat Shalom and Pesach kosher v'sameach.
Hi Oren, great and usefull video, again! Thanks! I ´ve been to ISL last year and get used to the card very quickly. Easy! As I left, I still have the card with unused balance (at that time) of approx. 45 NIS, did I definitely lost this amount after leaving ISL? I am about to return in a couple of weeks and the money at the card woul be helpfull. But if not available amy more, I will charge it at the airport.
While I was recently in Israel, I was told my RAV card can be used and topped up for eight years before it has to be replaced with a new one. Is that correct? Also, the RAV card machine at the airport is totally different to the machines at the tram stops, which can be confusing.
brilliant video. made me laugh. not waiting for passengers to get off the train first !! even on the london undergroud, people need to be reminded by station staff to allow passengers off first hahahaha.
Wish more places around the world had a public transportation card like the Octopus Card in Hong Kong. You can load it up and use it on any public transport and loads of places other than that. Once you're done with it, you can get a refund and your money back.
Is it safe to ride the train after 10 pm to Jerusalem? We are arriving late in t LV then, going to the hotel. I enjoy all your videos , makes the trip very informative and hopefully I will feel more comfortable once there. Thank you!❤
Thanks for the info! When I get a Ravkav at the airport and a load it ( 100 NIS) then I can use it all over Israel until it’s used? Let’s say, if I go from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv often in a week , so I can use the card ? TIA
We (2 couples) had been in Israel from middle September to end of September this year. We only had 1 RAV KAV Card and used it together on the domestic and overland busses. You just have to put in the number of travellers in the machine on the bus, and the whole fare for (in our case) 4 people was substracted from the card. PLEASE NOTE, that if you take the tram in Jerusalem, EVERYONE needs to have his own RAV KAV Card !!!
I have a few questions In the monthly pass There is (green) (yellow)(grey), etc What do these colours mean ?. Also, I bought a monthly pass it's up to 40k And my daily trips are about 50k Yet the 40k says green 75k says azure 225km says grey Can you explain?
Hi!! I made alyah almost 2 years ago and still finding almost impossible to take a proper bus ride. Can you explain the difference between the lines and frequency?
Hi. If you take the bus from Jerusalem to Masada national park you must scan the rav kav card when you step up on the bus and also when you step down at your destination ? Two times for a single trip ? Or only when you enter the bus at departure point ?
About children under 5, they ride for free only if they are accompanied by a ticket holder adult and only one child for each adult ticket holder so one adult with two children under 5 will need to buy a ticket for one of them. The second child is entitled for a 50% discount but you´ll need to have a minor profile to get the discount, something that is not possible with the basic Anonymous card and is too complicated (if even possible) for a tourist.
After watching this video twice now as well as researching the Rav Kav website l still do not understand it. If l purchase a daily contract for, let's say, up to 75 km does it mean that all of my journeys added up on that day must be no more than 75 km or is it just that 1 single journey must be up to 75 km but l can do multiple journeys up to 75 km on that daily ticket? 🤔🤔🤔
Thanks for the information. Will there be a chance in the near future that Israel decides for 'contactless payment'? (Payment with credit cards / phones which charges directly from your bankaccount.) It works the same as any contactless payment in the supermarket but in the public transport you have to check in and check out to set the price.
Can credit on the card be spent on anything else? In many countries, the similar stored value card can be used at convinience stores and for purchases in stations and airports. thanks
I was there during December 22. I was unable to enable all day ticket. I searched everywhere. I am no noob, I am a data engineer. I could not find it and the bus drivers show me to not pay and take a seat
When I have loaded stored value onto my Rav Kav cards in the past, I noticed that there was a discount at certain levels and the more stored value you put on the card, the larger the discount. That was true from 2019 and as recently as late 2022. Is this still the way it operates when adding stored value?
Thanks for that. Can anyone tell me: When arriving at the airport and buying a rav kav card, can I load it with 5 daily contracts in advance? Because at my Hotel there is no train station with machines and I need a new daily ticket every morning. Thanks 🙏
@@vtcs1963 Ihaven't tried to use the app but I was able to buy one with my passport. I lost my wallet in the Rome Airport. They found it intact, even the cash, and I'll have it tomorrow but to get home from Ben Gurion I had to purchase a rav kav ironie. Fortunately I had 95 shekels in a different place. But I also had my passports.
Totally agree... And less confusing... I got freaked out about RavKav and a local told me just use HopOn... The app stays in most texts in Hebrew altough you select English, but it's still easier.... And since the times of e-SIM's mobile data in IL is also affordable
I was planning a trip to Jerusalem in 2020 alone and now its impossible we all know why and now with expenses derived from Covid and with high inflation , that money is basically gone, if economy is good in following years , Jerusalem /Egypt 2025 Here I come.
watch this verse please Revelation 14:12 King James Version 12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.
