Composed in 1905 and premiered in 1907, this enchanting work was commission to Maurice Ravel by the Érard company in order to display the expressive range of its double-action pedal harp. Ravel dedicated his Introduction and Allegro for a septets of harp, flute, clarinet and string quartet to Albert Blondel, director of Maison Érard. It is written in 1 straight movement and echoes many of Ravel exquisite colors.
