Gimnazija Kranj Great Christmas Concert 2014: Night in Paris. In a sold out Gallus Hall (Cankarjev dom, Slovenia) Gimnazija Kranj Symphony Orchestra performed Ravels masterpiece: La Valse (Waltz). Orchestra did great job. Beautiful and clear tones and distinct sounds of fluted, Frenchhorns, oboes, violins, and percussion and the right tempo. the orchestra Gimnazia performs so nicely it can always deliver five to si minutes of peace and invigoration. Always deliver enjoyment, pece, and clarity. Never failing whether Rimsky kosakov, Copeland or Gershwin.

This is not my favorite piece yet I believe these students did a fantastic job. Seems to me an extremely difficult piece to perform in perfect sync with each member of this orchestra.What a team effort! Bravo! Job well done. And I don't care about the imperceptible flub around 1:20!! Not worth mentioning in the scheme of things! Can't figure out why the audience stayed seated. ( - ;

I'm with you. I don't personally care much for the piece though it has its moments. I found the interpretation interesting, and the performance well done. Even though the piece is not one I typically enjoy, when I saw it was Gimnazija Kranj Symphony Orchestra, I knew I would hear a well-performed piece. I also knew I would experience a well-videoed performance. I so enjoy watching these kids (pardon, but at my age, most everyone is a kid. It's not a pejorative). Their verve and love of music carries as much as the music itself.

It would be interesting to see what this orchestra would make of Bizet's "Farandole" from his L'Arlesienne suite, would'nt it Señor Becan? Tailor made for you!

bad counting at 1:20, what happened, seemed to surprise conductor as well..looks like he tried to pull back tempo and someone wasn't watching?? Tentative conducting leaves the door open for that kind of thing Also for a piece like this, number of string players should maybe double

Yes, something was amiss. This is a difficult work for an orchestra, and overall they acquit themselves commendably. My big issue with the several videos from this enjoyable concert is the overly busy video direction. As an aside, somewhere I must pay a great compliment to Nadja - a superb performer who doesn't allow her disability to impede here playing. Also - Bravo.

That finale was too hasty. The flutes had no chance to contribute their glissendoes. The interwoven truncated themes were swallowed by the overbearing pace. Not an amazing performance, hélas.
