There are Corvids around the world. An evidence for their adaptability. They were highly revered in most cultures because of their intelligence, but with the civilization their image changed. In the walls of the moated castle Hallwyl accommodate a Jackdaw colony since it was built around 1200. In the shaft of a medieval abortion a jackdaw couple build a nest. Also in the castle in Starnberg has always been a jackdaw. There are jackdaws also in the castle in Starnberg. Biologist and behavioral scientist Princess Augusta of Bavaria examined precisely the jackdaws and identified in them a highly developed intelligence. In addition to several species of monkeys, crows are the only animals which can make tools and use them meaningfully.

I’m lucky enough to have a crow which was abandoned very young by its parents due to it being born blind and so I think it was ejected from the nest and having studied it at distance for a week I decided to take it home and take care of it myself. He uses his beak to feel his way around the aviary and doesn’t fly very much probably owing to the fact he can’t see. He can fly and does occasionally but isn’t very good at it. I am besotted with “Roy” my lovely little bird and have learned so much about crows since I’ve had him. I count myself extremely lucky to have had the chance to care for such a wonderful expressive bird. He almost talks to me. Whether he likes me or not is another story but he certainly seems content in his surroundings and eats very well indeed. How could anyone dislike a corvid? It’s not a judgement made from knowing about them, it’s a judgment made from ignorance towards corvids. They are just the most incredible birds and since Roy has lived in my garden, we’ve had so many more birds come to feed in our garden because they must see the crows disabilities and the fact he’s alive and well surely says to other birds that my garden is as safer environment for birds as it can be. It’s lovely to see the birds enjoying that sanctuary.

I just found one that was rejecting for being sick. Took it to the vet and got antibiotics and its doing great going on trips and all. I hope he can rejoin his flock eventually tho he has become very familiar with me. It all depends on how much he had already learned when i found him i suppose. Funny coincidence it is; i also named “ him” Roy

The crow family is the most intelligent bird. They throw nuts on the street and wait for them to be run over. Waits for a red light and walks to its food. They also memorize trash pickups throughout cities. Scavengers can be very intelligent.

I have an amazing story. Years ago, my friend brought her pet crow to my house. A week later, I get a phone call from her telling me that her crow got out. I went outside, and I'll be damned, the crow is sitting on my car. She perched on my arm, and I drove her back to her owner. Keep in mind, we live 5 miles apart.

I figured I would share my kooky crow story with U since where I work nobody would really care they are self centered dolts as I call em. My neighbor recently passed away in August. As the story goes she used to feed the local crows alot of the junk foods she didn't eat like her cheese puffs and corn chips. As the weather turned bitter I was out arguing with a used lawn tractor I picked up ferreting out the multiple engines issues a crow flew really close to me more than once that afternoon and shortly before sundown the damn crow flies up lands right in front of me on the tractor seat and drops a cheese puff. He immediately took off to sit on my fence behind me and caw at me. The joke is I was ready to toss the crow 5 bucks and tell him to hit the road go down to the dollar store and get his own cheese puffs. The crows and I are semi friends now that my neighbor is gone and passed on. However the crows are not fond of my Pet North American Bobcat snarls at em when he is outside and chases em when they ain't begging me for food. Needless to say I am trying to get the animals to work things out between each other. I think the cat just his antics as a sport he hasn't really harmed one of em yet. He is a bit old and over weight due to his good fortune of having me as his dad. The other domestic cats I have seem to realize the big black birds and I are friends now. There is one big fat crow I Nic Named Angus and or call him Boss Man. Angus seems to have a vocabulary with some sort of accent. A few times the bird has cursed used curse words at the cats and my customers that stop by for my lawn mower service. He seems to be the biggest one and the loudest and seems to be communicating with me. That big crow more or less calls the shots when he wants me put food out and doesn't want me to feed them. In more ways than one I say he is communicating with me rather well.

I have a gang of about 4/5 Jackdaws that land on my porch roof below my bedroom window every morning (sometimes accompanied by a few crows). The noisy buggers always wake me up about 5/6 chattering and play fighting with each other. They often fly onto the roof above my bedroom and I can hear their feet stomping around as they laugh and play. Wouldn't have it any other way though. In my half asleep state I often listen to them talking and have really started to appreciate how intricate and complex their language is. They seem to be extremely social beings that communicate in a very excitable manor. Almost like they're constantly cracking jokes or squabbling/debating with one another. There is also a pair of pigeons that land on the porch that they seem to get along with too.

When I was around 10-12 years old I fostered a jackdaw chicken two summers (different birds of course!). They were amazing little creatures, imitating everything. Imagen a jackdaw trying to figure out how to brusch his teeth🤣! Neither of them needed a moment of thinking when we put a piece of cheese in a match box, while they watched, and gave the box to them. One foot on top of the box and pulled "the drawer", using the beak! More social than a dog! Almost anyway, always in the middle of everything, whether it was mum cooking, dad fixing something with the car or me and my friends playing. As we walked, so did the jackdaws. I had to train them to fly by have them sit on my hand and wave my arm up - down - up - down to force them to use their wings and later gently throw them, not from a tall hight of course. Both of them had a great sense of humor. They loved to tease, pull ones hair or clothes, steal ones pen while writing, land on ones shoulder, crying "keeaaaaa" right in to your ear. No mistake, RIGHT in to the ear. On purpose, only to have the reaction! Especially the one we named Krax ('krucks' means that sound birds of the crow family say) was a little devil in disguise🤣. My granny liked to sit on the porch playing solitaire. And Krax liked to watch. One day he (or she, we'll never know) got tired of watching and thought it was time to brighten things up! He took a pile of the deck and flew up on the roof. Put the cards down and watched us going nuts. He definitelly understood he passed the limit of what's acceptable naughtiness and brought back a few cards, however I (smallest, lightest = less risk to break any tiles, and the fact "it's your jackdaw, get the cards!") had to climb the roof and collect the rest of the cards. With a very pleased jackdaw on my shoulder... In early fall they left home for their wild family. At the beginning they were away for just a short while, but the length increased in a short period of time. In late September they only visited us, but what I find interesting is, they brought home friends for dinner! One rather fat jackdaw and another five - six normal looking 😂 sat in the old oak tree. The fat one came down greeting his human family with both caressing and chat. After a while the others came down on the lawn, but kept distance. After time Krax (and Flax, means "flip") turned more wild than domestic. In the part of Sweden where we lived the most jackdaws, especially the young ones, move south during winter. So after November they were gone 😢😢😢. I read somewhere that jackdaws have over 30 different sounds, and they have endlessly ways to organize the order in speach. I wish I could understand their language, obviously so much more refined than most people could guess!

I am with Brent 100%. I hate ravens. We have hundreds where I live and they are the worst scavengers. Oh yes intelligent all right. They work together to pop off the lids to everyone's garbage cans and make a huge mess everywhere. They are loud and obnoxious, harass my little dog all the time, and everyone else's, when there is plenty of food in the surrounding area. But my hate came from when a friend of mines little kitten got outside and as he went to get it, (mind you he's in a wheelchair), a raven swooped down and grabbed this poor helpless kitten, flew up to the tree right above and proceeded to eat it alive!! I showed up right after that and will never forget the horrifying screams of that poor baby.An yes, they do eat their eyes out when they are still alive and their brains.I love animals, but there is nothing anyone could say to me to change my mind. Believe me, I have since researched these creatures and I will take a dolphin over their "intelligence" any day!!!

I agree that our thumbs help us out a lot. However, I do think you overestimate their brains. I do admit I may be misunderstanding you when you say "very impressive tools even by our standards", that hook that the bird made was impressive; but that was by my bird standards. If I kept to human standards it takes quite a bit more to impress.

There was a documentary on Netflix about mysterious phenomena in the natural world. In one episode a young girl kept finding strange objects on the window sill of her bedroom. At first it was bits of glass and shiny material. She assumed it was falling off the roof. But the objects started to increase in size. Plastic squids, doll heads and parts, buttons and bottlecaps. It turned out that the girl had taken a liking to some neighborhood crows and had started feeding them. Crows like shiny and interesting objects and tend to collect them. So this was the crows' way of saying thank you to the little girl who was so kind to them. No objects appeared on any of the other window sills of the residence. This means that the crows knew which room belonged to the girl. Extremely intelligent and willing and able to respond to kindness with gratitude...truly amazing birds!

Every morning, I used to say 'Hello' to a Crow in my yard. Coincidentally - or maybe not - the last day I lived there, the bird said it back to me. I almost wept with affection and sadness to be leaving.

These birds are incredibly smart and fascinating. They hold full on funerals and mourn for their dead, and they will fiercely hold grudges against specific people that have been rude or hostile to them. Likewise they will bring gifts, often shiny pieces of metal to specific people who have been nice to them. They have a great sense of memory and will remember individual people's faces for months. Really incredible animals.

It has now been realised that the crows have been watching the scientists' eyes for hints about solving puzzles. So now, the scientists have to wear mirrored sunglasses to prevent their eyes giving away hints to the crows.

Where? Sounds like a questionable conclusion. There's no a specific glare a scientist can give to suggest to a crow how to bend a metal wire into a hook, for instance.

@@TucoBenedicto It's not a glare. They follow the gaze alterations of our eyes and catch on to what were looking at. And I don't think OP is talking about that specific study. There are loads of studies on corvids, not just the bent wire at Oxford. If you're interested look up "Birds read human eyes"

Considering they have the intelligence of a 7 year old(although this is an understatement imo, because it's a false comparison ignoring their other abilities and unique intelligence) yes. But probably only because there are adults with disorders and/or damage causing mental impairment. A healthy adult would be guaranteed smarter, if only because human capabilities allow us to solve problems they can't or can't quickly, but not a fair comparison of intelligence once again, because it's focused on what we can do and they can't, rather than vice versa.

The issue in this comparison is in evaluating intelligence relative to their abilities and life situation. For ravens to use tools spontaneously demonstrates capabilities far beyond humans in a similar scenario...as tools are necessary for human survival. We tend to evaluate capacity in crazy ways. Sure mankind understands physics. But birds live physics, as do all sea creatures. It is an amazing world.

I remember being a kid feeding loads of birds by a river. As I was throwing bits of bread the various birds were scrapping for it but the jackdaws always got there first. I noticed that they were following where I was looking so I experimented by darting my eyes whilst keeping my head still. The jackdaws still got there first.

Cross are the most caring protective birds ever I've witnessed a crow gathering food and feeding another crow that had had an accident and lost half it's beak and another feed and protect another that had a broken leg feeding it before it's self they're amazing beautiful birds

One of my earliest memories was a story my mother told me about her father repairing a crow's injured wing and rehabilitating him back to health on his farm in Austria.

I was given that opportunity with an injured LA FREEWAY pigeon & he eventually went back to the wilderness, to a MUCH BETTER area & had his pigeon 🕊️🐦👍 WIFE & kids and a happy life. It is a long, amazing true story .

I've noticed local crows being very clever in their behavior, while one was trying to get pastry crumbs out of a bag the wind blowing it about made it difficult then another flew down and put a foot on it so it could eat then they changed positions so the other could eat. Don't know if they were a breeding pair but I was stunned by the cooperation they showed

My Dad grew up on a farm in the 40's and 50's and he told me a story when I was a kid about how smart crows were. He said when the crows would be in the cornfield he would step out into the back yard and fire a shotgun in their direction to scare them away and that once the crows learned this all he had to do was walk out with the shotgun and they would scatter....BUT if he walked out with the shotgun unloaded the crows would just keep eating the corn. He said he didn't know if they smelled the gun powder in the shells or what but he said they did indeed fly away when the gun was loaded but would not budge if the gun was unloaded.

some theories suggest that birds, and crowes specifically can sense aggressive intent in primates and that a human holding an unloaded weapon is different from one holding a loaded weapon in this regard. All in all very fascinating stuff

When I lived out in the country for a while, I had a raven befriend me. I didn't know anything about them at that point. He followed me around for 6 months or so until I understand a neighbor shot him because he had gotten into their chicken area and was stealing or eating their eggs. I don't know how true that was but I never saw him again. Right after I first saw him I started reading about them. All I can say is that I really enjoyed learning about them and he was a lot of fun to observe. I would buy mackerel to feed him because I read they liked them. I had a large deck and porch in the front of my house with a 6ft glass slider. He would come and tap on the door with his beak to get my attention and I would go out and feed him. Then I would sit on the deck and he would get on the railing and hang out with me. I have loved these guys ever since.

Rather than "unkindness of ravens" and "murder of crows" I personally use "shadow" and "eclipse" to describe ravens and crows, respectively. They deserve to be greatly admired 🖤

They are so exceptional and beautiful. There are a couple that live here on our property in northern ca and I’ve heard them mimic the baby talk I use with my animals like the chickens and kitties and dog, they actually mimic the baby talk I couldn’t believe what I was hearing at fist!!! Love these creatures they are just brilliant and amazing ❤️

I've loved crows for many years. They're smart...they are jokers, they fly beautifully. They're highly social and devoted to the flock. I think they're physically beautiful, and breathtakingly gorgeous fliers. They have a sense of humor...I've seen crows teasing each other many times. They're devoted and are quite courageous in defense of their flock, even attacking hawks. They are quite probably the most intelligent animal alive. When I die (I'm in my 80's), I want to come back as a crow or other covid such a blue jay, or raven.

German crows are especially big and streetwise. They act like they own the city. They swoop past our apartments looking inside. Then when they see we are asleep or away they pay secret visits to raid our balconies. I love these birds.Jeanneret one of the great modern architects had that nickname, Le Corbusier, the crow!

Ever since i had a dream about crows, ravens and magpies i have loved them. I had a crow visit me everyday after leaving old bread just once on windowsill. The next day he/she returned, and so a mutual daily hello followed. And fresh bread 😂😂♥i used to leave water too, but the crow always used to steal the containers, so i had to start buying tiny tubs especially. I was so sad when i moved, i had no idea how special his/her daiy visits were, until i no lonver saw crow! 😥i hope new tennants feed him too. Ill never forget that bird!

I’ve always loved them, especially the way they sound. A friend of mine had one for a pet when she was a kid and had all kinds of funny stories about it. It was always free to come and go as it pleased. 😻❤️

+jason antigua not all American bikers are bad. Some biker clubs formed to rescue abused dogs, some help abused children so their parents won't be too many more. the hoes on and gets better. however. It's 2:00 am here and I need to go to sleep.

The American Biker clubs such as Hell's Angels were started by disaffected vets from WW2, mostly AFB- fighter pilots who faced the murderous Nazis. They had seen how the German population was so easily spun by the pier pressure and benefit of hate, and thus became it, no, I have many friends now in Germany, some of the most peaceful folks I know and like me, we all love the blues, yet a wall ago, the biker in the USA came to represent as the USA does, a separation between the government and the people, that the people should never blindly follow any cause. It still happens, it is a battle of wills. The older bikers I know, including family and friends, we don't sell meth or guns at all. That is case by case. The only ones I kick ass on, the ones with Swastikas, as that is UNAmerican, haters, and do not truly represent the M C at all. German bikers are no different than any other individual differences we all accept. It is our unity. Hope you can savvy that. Good and bad in all cultures, so please be fair when you speak of any other. Best to always clean our own houses first. Best wishes... and a clear view. CorVus...

We have the bad bikers here in Germany too. In my home town the Hells Angles control the prostitution business and are involved in other shady businesses. A few years ago their leader was shot in a public cafe. But most biker clubs are just normal people that like to ride bikes and I very much suspect you have nice bikers in the states as well. The world isn't black and white.

Cause Odin was a Druid living in a Viking world.... lol The Morrigan is a Celtic goddess of fate/war, death and rebirth. And she was often believed to take the form of Ravens and is also known as the "Raven Goddess"

When I was doing my undergrads, one day I was leaving for class in the morning and I noticed that there was a broken mirror placed outside the neighbor's house. When I was returning home I noticed a crow was perched in front of the mirror and grooming its feathers. I couldn't believe that it actually recognized itself in the reflection. Birds are so cool

I have experienced the exact same results with crows. Stare at them, they get what I can only closest describe as "shy." Give them a gift and leave, they grab the grub and sometimes later leave you food gifts. No doubt they appreciate it.

Crows are awesome! Stop the negativity! I and my GF live in NH VT, right on the border. Everyday we go to a certain spot and within minutes we are surrounded by crows. My GF mimicks their caws and they actually get closer and talk back! Then one day recently, they all showed up with about a hundred babies. They hangout with us and the kids came over and we're walking on the hood looking in at us. We felt blessed that they seemed to like us. Please stop the negativity. They are beautiful, intelligent animals.

Instead of naming the video "Ravens - the most intelligent birds in the world (animal documentary in HD)", how about titling it "Corvids - the most intelligent birds in the world (animal documentary in HD)"? Corvids is more broad and encompassing than just Crows or ravens or for most of this case Jackdaws. Just a suggestion here ^_^ illll

It's all about getting the most views. I think in order to have mass appeal, you have to speak to the common man (or woman). Most RU-vid viewers won't be looking for videos on 'Corvids', but everyone knows the word 'raven'. Also, the video description does clarify that the video is about Corvids.

I've always admired ravens and crows. I remember one time when I was just a little kid learning to shoot (maybe 4), my dad told me very seriously that I should never shoot at or kill a crow, because they remember people and it's a bad omen (and just an evil thing to do). Needless to say, I never did and never would. I of course passed that on to my own kids as well to never harm them. We also had this cat growing up that the crows HATED. I'm guessing he killed one or more of them, and any time he'd walk outside they would swoop and peck at him really specifically targeting him. He was an alley cat to the bone, all scarred up from them, he wouldn't even run as they pecked at him haha.

@@Son_of_Thunder_2000 if you think on bones, i hope you know that mostly all at museums are fake because whole dinosaurus was never really found, so they assumed new animal look and made up some bones to combine them with some that are already found, but those found bones could be literally from any animal...

They never say the dinosaurs still thrive on this planet. The planet had a few catastrophes, the O2 level was reduced (less sun for photosynthesis, plants quit taking in CO2 and producing O2, water.). Gee, the CO2 didn't accumulate, it went down down down, O2 went down...the largeness of animals/insects could not be supported on less O2. Dinosaurs adapted and thrive to this day. Very successful part of life...

I would like that to happen, the idea of a civilization of humanoid corvids had always interested me. I even though of a game where the main character is humanoid crow, but it's a horror survival game though. But the thing that we need to worry about is the chances of them starting a war with each other.

I used to pass by crows every morning on my way to work,there was a public bin they enjoyed.As I passed the bin they would fly up to a nearby wire.One day I decided not to look at them (look the complete opposite direction) and they largely stayed put.Day after day I did this and within a short space of time they simply ignored me.One day I decided to sharply move my head in their direction and they all got spooked and left for the safety of the wire.On another occassion I wore a pair of dark sunglasses and looked straight ahead...they didn't appreciate the sunglasses at all !

I have plenty visiting my garden every day along with Magpies I feed them the left over cat food from my 9 cats. It's an arrangement that suits all sides! The cat's are pedigree 3 British Shorthair and 6 Burmese stheygather at the window each day after their evening meal to watch these birds, it's like TV for cats! for me, no food is going to waste and for the birds a free meal!

I feed the crows at the office parking lot. They come and do a fly by whenever they see me. With the COVID-19 and the construction the parking lot is gone so I park somewhere and walk. Yet somehow, they know it's me even with my mask on, and they still approach me. Could they memorize my hairline or my shoes? Amazing!

Crows are amazing creatures. So smart and intelligent, we all know that and I always wonder.. My friend who lives in the village talks to the crows, they always come to let her know when something is happening. To disbelive. I respect them immensely. The funniest visit of a crow or a raven ( we have not figured out what it is 😄) and I and thousands of people have seen on the channel of - Hana and Kotaro - small Asian claw otters...It's hilarious 😂😂😂 Thanks for this great video & thanks RU-vid. ❤
