Ravi Ravindra ‘A Voice Without A Form’ Interview by Iain McNay
Author of many books including ‘Science and the Sacred,’ ‘Krishnamurti - Two Birds On One Three’ and ‘Heart Without Measure. - Gurdjieff work with Madam de Salzmann.’
Ravi was born in India in 1939. As a teenager he found himself reading the works of Swami Vivekananda and being ‘pulled by a longing to understand the mystery and significance of life. He was struck by one particular statement: ‘I am a voice without a form.’ It opened a door to a new dimension for him.
He talks about his time with Krishnamurti, ’Silence was a special delight to both of us, it was easy to understand each other’s thoughts and feelings.’
And then his 10 years with Madame De Salzmann who was head of the Gurdjieff work since the latter’s death in 1949. She stressed, ’attention is all that we have, that is to say, attention is all that we can bring. The rest is out of our control. A higher energy is there. The purpose of man’s existence on Earth is to allow the exchange of energy between the earth and higher levels of existence.’

Enjoyed the interview. Indeed Dr. Ravindra is fortunate to have been associated with a few great Masters and it is very generous of him to share his personal experiences. If I may add though, I do not regard the ancient Indian school of Vedanta as outdated or recommending isolation from this material world. rather, it encourages one to actively engage with this world but in a dharmic way to purify one's mind. In fact, the Pancha Maha Yajna involves not only prayers to the Gods but also service to human beings, other living beings and to the environment. This is the stepping stone to the meditative stage required for realizing the unity behind the existence. As Lord Krishna says in the Bhagavad Gita (which contains the essence of Vedanta or the Upanishads), for a person who has accomplished the goal of self-realization, there is nothing that needs to be done further but he should continue to engage with this world for Lokasangraha - the benefit of mankind. While Buddha chose to engage with this world in the role of a teacher, those like Janaka continued as kings even after enlightenment.

There is silence in your talk, Ravi-ji. I have been reading your Wisdom of the YogaSutras recently and every word in there resonates with me. What a marvel of a book you wrote! Thank you for your service 🙏

I don't know how I missed this interview until now. A wonderful interview. Iain is the best interviewer in this area...He lets his guest speak and absolutely pushes no personal agenda. And Ravi is a Sage and a real gentleman.

+Always-Stay-Positive These days so called enlightened people are a dime a dozen...much rarer it is to find a gentleman, and much better.

Thanks for the interview Iain. With due respect the "magnate" analogy didn't quite work for me.The divine spark and our outside distractions such as ambition, success etc.possibly the "ego" are two different things. On a deeper level we can be felt "connected" to each other like magnets or rather as "one".
