Bay Area rapper MC Hammer talks about Tupac at the Oakland dedication ceremony for Tupac Shakur Way. @2PacOfficialYT @MCHAMMER Read more about the dedication: cbsloc.al/49jplwK
Hammer don’t get the respect he deserves. He needs a street and a center. Hammer is as important to Oakland as the Black Panthers, the A’s & the Raiders. Impact was too major in the Town. I’m From Frisco, I was born in 83’ and I can still remember going to my aunts house on Church St by Eastmont mall and hearing everybody bumping his music. & seeing it on the Box. This was 89-90/91’ before I ended up moving to New Orleans. He was the first rapper you really saw on the sidelines of games (rolling with Deion at the Falcon games) Hammer been that!
Okay, slow down. There's nothing wrong with recognizing his impact, that's a great thing, but saying he had the same impact as the Black Panthers or the Raiders? Like come on, he made a few popular songs and his tracks weren't even that good at that. If you like it and it made an impact for you, great, but to the vast majority of the hiphop community he's a class clown. Saying he had the same impact than civil rights activists who started a wordwide movement to fight for justice and equal rights is just straight up offensive. Not even Tupac had that kind of impact.
@elisamorris7742 Most of the hip-hop community don't know what talent is all about. Selling sex? Drug use? Pants hanging Below the waste, showing their underwear? Lyrically he wasn't that good, but he had way more talent and sold way more records than anyone during that time. Snoop dog is an international star. Career records sold. 36 million worldwide. Mc hammer. 50 million worldwide. Only people like eminem and jay z kanye west have sold more than hammer.
@@elisamorris7742 I’m taking about generating attention, money and investing into the people of Oakland. That’s pretty major. One of the biggest knocks on Hammer was that he went Bankrupt. Yeah he went Bankrupt because he was giving everybody from the Town jobs. First rapper to go Diamond, everybody and they momma rocked hammer pants. He even had a cartoon on ABC (one of the big 2 at the time networks)
@@elisamorris7742you don't know what your talking about....Hammer is Oakland and he has done things that we here in Oakland know about. Stanley K. Burrell aka MC Hammer should have been honored before Too Short and Tupac....on mommas
He left us a treasure trove of hits, double albums, Platinum on top of platinum on top of platinum!!!! And he made a brother feel that it was aight to struggle his music til' this day is going strong and his philosophy is taught in many universities in the u.s. including Berklee school of music! Granted he wasn't our savior but for the time being he was,his music got me through some HARD times and he let us know what time it was. Even in Jamaica he is loved! Don't hate congratulate, til' this day no one comes close! Now stick that in your pipe and smoke it!👏💯🎯✌️
@@silverfox9031 NO DEMON...HE DESTROYED AN ENTIRE GENERATION AND I AM WITNESS TO THAT.. DOING SONGS ABOUT SLEEPING WITH YOUR FRIEND, WHO IS NOW YOUR ENEMY,' WIFE AND INCITING ALL OF THAT WAR AND HATE TOWARDS BLACK MEN AND CALLING WOMEN HOOCHIES AND SINGING ABOUT BEING OUT ON BAIL AND THE PEN AND MURDER AND GUNS AND THE FAST LIFE DESTROYED MANY LIVES RETARDED HUMAN AND NO EVEN GOD HAS CONDEMNED THE DEMON TO HELL.
@silverfox9031 RETARDED... PAC WAS A DEMON AND A HELL RAISER AND HE SAID HE SOLD HIS SOUL FOR FORTUNE AND FAME AND TOOK A NAKED PIC IN A BATHTUB SURROUNDED BY WHITE MEN AND WHORES. NO. TUPAC IS A DEMON
8:27 Well said Hammer. Pac is the greatest ever! All these people want to pick apart his raps in a technical aspect. But his talent was in the message of his music. The way he could make the listener feel his music. He could put you in a party vibe one minute, then sad the next, or ready to throw hands the next. No artist has been able to do what Pac did on the mic. There will NEVER be another. RIP PAC 🙏🏽
Brother Hammer this is the best thing I have heard about Tupac in so long........Thank you brother for sharing him in the light that he deserves ........The light of God and his eternal Kingdom.........
😂😂😂 WHAT? ALL THOSE SONGS TALKING ABOUT CRIME, KILLING, AND FILTHINESS? SAYING THAT YOUR MOM IS A CRACK USER IS ALSO DIGRACEFUL AND YES HE SOLD HIS SOUL
@@barringtonedwards7008you ain't got enough juice to tell that shit, in front of my face. Tupac is the greatest rapper artist of all time. Stop commenting fuckeries
@reneeharrison3918 OH YES DEMON. YOU WANT ME TO NAME THAT SICKO' SOCKEST AND MOST DEMONIC SONGS. LIVE AND DIE IN LA BRENDA HAD A BABY DEAR MAMY WHERE HE ACTUALLY CALLS HIS MAMA A CRACK HEAD CHANGES HAS TO BE THE MOST DEPRESSING SONG AND IN THE END HE SAYS RATATATAT AFTER ALL THESE YEARS HIS STUPID SONG HIT EM UP PLEASE. TUPAC IS A DEMON LIKE YOU
@@barringtonedwards7008You know what I always tell people who are quick to judge or come to a negative conclusion about tupac? Google "positive songs by tupac". Listen to the majority of his interviews. Yes I can testify that some of his songs were wreckless. But he made songs that were uplifting too, especially for women. When he spoke on his mama he was just keeping it real. Have you heard his song "dear mama" ? Or "keep your head up"? Or "changes"? Those are great songs. Or fun songs like "all about you". "I get around". I would love for you to listen to "until the end of time". But it's more than just his music that's made him so popular. It's his activism, revolutionary message, philanthropy. This man has sold 75 million albums off a career that lasted 5 years. Starred in 6 movies. I respect your opinion.
That’s your opinion and I stand on mine!!!! Check this out ahead of time @md12962 I’m not one of these social media people that go back and forth so save the argument
@md12962 How is he not a legend? If you combine all the other bay area rappers together, still none of them have out sold hammer as far as album sales. He's sold 50 million worldwide. No bay area rapper comes close to that. He's won 3 grammy awards. 7 American music award. 3 soul train awards. NAACP image awards. Billboard music awards. The only other bay rapper to win any significant awards is G eazy. Hammer was Hip-hops first superstar. The first solo rapper to go on two world tours. First rapper with a big entourage. Not a legend.
@@md12962Hammer was the first hip hop artist to go not gold, not platinum, but diamond. Not many artists from any genre has gone diamond. M C is a legend.
It’s crazy .. I’m old enough to remember when MC Hammer was *everywhere* .. then Hip Hop abandoned him .. now you see and hear real Oakland factors speak of him w/ reverence. These were powerful words and only he could speak them. Hammer really is 2 Legit 2 Quit .. he walked away from the foolishness but didn’t walk away from his integrity and gotta respect that
Or maybe he fell back from hip hop & the industry to live his life didn't you just hear the man say that he didn't go to none of the events they (the industry) invited him to pay attention
@@AntonioWilliams-uz2rs He did fall back but when rumors circulated that he bought a helicopter for Oakland police all of a sudden Hammer wasn’t “cool” anymore .. but look who is still a reputable, accomplished, respected person at the end of the day. That’s my point
@@HOMIEHangout I feel ya & I didn't know about the helicopter but we all know who's in control of the industry and I'm cutting out the middle man this is Satan's playground and he's using his human minions to help carry out his plans cause he knows his time is coming to an end it's good chopping it up with you homie God bless you & your fam Shalom
@md12962 brother your comment doesn't even make sense the context of the replies is affirming Tupac's greatness in comparison to other legends from other genres. Your comment would have made sense if you would have wrote Tupac RAP LEGEND. YOUR NOT AFFIRMING THE CONTEXT OF THE ORIGINAL COMMENT BECAUSE THE ORIGINAL COMMENT WAS ALREADY REFERRING TO TUPAC. YOUR COMMENT IS REFERRING TO TUPAC WHICH THE ORIGINAL COMMENT ALREADY IS, SO YOUR COMPARING TUPAC TO TUPAC? THIS HOW PEOPLE TWIST THE BIBL.
Hammer killed it ,feelin everything he said ! His and Pacs message is needed now more than ever in OUR beloved Oakland ! We need to quit letting the news tell us how bad it is and everyone gets scared and complains about the crime in Oakland but how many people actually have gotten off their azz and tried to help anyway they can , volunteer at a soup kitchen etc ? RIP Tupac ! Glad you got a street named after you by your old apartment, but you deserved a park or rename lake Merritt lake Shakur ….
@@bigdaddytrips6197Rather you care or not, this man who's speaking was the biggest star in the world between 1990-1992. And he's speaking about the greatest rapper ever. Tupac!
@villiantwo Yes we have heard of vanilla ice. But as I just said globally in the hip-hop community and Media hammer, vanilla ice and will smith don't really get any love. Despite the fact that hammer and ice were the first high profile solo rappers. I'm talking about performing on the biggest stages in the world.
When I was a kid it was all about wwf hulk hogan the A team Mr T. Then there was Mc Hammer such positive music as a kid Then when I got a bit older it was 2 pacalypse changed the rap game.
Salute this was big for Tupac. We need to stop killing each other every rapper is killed by another black man. Rip Tupac and Shock G the one who put him on.
Don't let the Kind heartedness of this brother fool you; when Hammer speaks ITS REAL RAW! You can feel it in his voice. What a Legend. Giving him his flowers! Thanks for your contribution to the world alongside Oakland!
Love PAC my Goat music is very spiritual too me few artists could touch my soul him and DMX could every time I listen to unconditional love by PAC and cried deep I cried when he died felt like I lost a big brother.
I'd walk the dark street of Oakland as the first time in my life in northern California as experience. I'm from Chicago and it reminds me of Gary, Indiana put together Chicago westside.
I just wanna hear people talk about Pac. He is the greatest Indeed, he has got what the world needs forever, so he will be in our hearts forever. Pac 4life much love Hammer ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I’m so happy and proud of the talent here in Oakland. Tu PAC deserves a street here in Oakland. I love and respect MC Hammer and Sway Calloway so proud they from Oakland 🥰
Thank you for honoring Tupac he deserved it. He would of been a new leader today of the little people. Tupac will always be in our hearts n soul of the people out here struggling for recognition and in the struggle against this system of oppression.
If you ever heard Hammers version of unconditional love you definitely know how unique and special Pac was as an artist.. when hammer rapped it smh it didn’t even sound like the same song only Pac could put everything he had in a song and really make you feel something
Man in 1992 when hammer dont hurt em came out i was in second grade i heard grandmaster flash and the furious 5 but me from the southwest could feel what hammer said as a kid plus it had energy and dancing literally started my journey into being a hip hop head and historian especially in the west coast this man really deserves his flowers in abundance i wouldve never probably heard pac if hammer didnt blow my mind sonically mad respect!!!!!
Nice story and compliments. But just to help you out a little, "please hammer don't hurt em" came out in 1990. Not 1992. Hammer released "too legit to quit" in 1991, and after that didn't officially release another album until 1994. "Tha funky headhunter", which contained his last top 40 hit "pumps and a bump".
