Been a fan since I was 9, in 1979, when the family moved to St. Albert from Ontario. Thank you Leon. We lost Mark. We lost Wayne. You deciding to keep calling this city home means more to us old-timers than you may even realize. We love you.
A pivotal day in the history of the franchise. This means so much more than dollars and cents. I've been an Oilers fan my whole life and have always prayed for the days Super Stars WANTED to be in Edmonton. 8 years means Connor is staying too. MASSIVE day. Leon said it best, "Loyal to the Oil"!!!!!
@@kurtkieswetter7640Actually it means alot. The memories made with friends and family year after year going through the playoff ride is priceless. The Stanley Cup is the hardest trophy to capture in any sport.
Drai, seeing you in another jersey would just be so painful honestly. Thank you for choosing this city and us fans. We love you very much, and we know you'll bring the cup to Edmonton.
Congrats Leon. I knew you were going to be huge for our Oilers. You still exceeded eveyones expectations and hopes. We cant wait for you to help bring a cup home.
The Cup is obviously the ultimate goal but a western conference championship, and the longest winging streak in western conference history are both highly significant achievements in their own right.
Yes. Your team has created a great environment for hockey lovers here in Edmonton. Not to mention, made new hockey fans from people who typically don’t watch hockey. From a Gen Z, I haven’t seen so many people my age LOVE hockey because of your guys power play. I care about winning the cup but at this point, I was more worried about y’all as people. It’s so good to hear this.
So happy Leon committed to another 8 years after this one! He's been a model citizen here, he never complained about how 'little' he made and IMO appreciated the 8.5 he got when he first signed it (everyone thought that was a massive overpay, but best move by far Chiarelli ever made here). He deserves every dime he gets and I just hope he can stay healthy for one playoff run - we'll win the CUp for sure if he does and he'll set playoff scoring records in the process. He is a hall of famer and nice to see him locked up
I'm a Canucks fan and Vancouver local but hitched my ride to the Oilers this past spring when we got beat fair and square. It was a ton of fun, those late evenings watching the post-game videos on RU-vid here and elsewhere. Seeing White Ave. and the warm weather and fans outside as it's still light out at 10PM. I know Edmonton maybe had a rep decades ago about stars wanting to stay there but for Leon, how could you not want to?
Long time oiler fan BCer (since 06 grade 3/4) I'm not 100% a Canuck fan but I like watching them once in awhile after or before oilers play or if they are in intermission and nucks also are playing, as I watch on a streaming site. Not bad to like more then one team, oilers are fun to watch
Super happy to have draisaitl with us for basically a dynasty run with the team, I'm just a bit worried about the money and how that will affect our future abilities to procure talents like him and McDavid
This is so awesome to see, star players wanting to stay. I've been an oilers fan since grade 3/4 in 06/07 I didn't watch hockey really but I knew about it and loved floor hockey in gym, my friends also were/are oiler fans, then had family in Edmonton. I watched hockey while in restaurants, and played a nhl 05 pc demo game. I watched the playoffs against the VGK last year and started watching consistently in January of this year. And I'm so glad I got back into hockey after years of not really paying attention to it, it's so fun watching McDavid and the team do their thing. It helped that my brother lived there for the last 3 years. Congrats on the 8 year extension Leon, go get that cup this year, the team can do it. I plan to go to my first hockey game this year in Edmonton with my brother when our schedules work out to go there. I may be a BCer but I'm northern so I'm not for the Canucks.
Edmonton is a Home where you feel at home, I told my family this many times even when the playoffs where going on. I went to the watch party, & seen bunch of fans & I felt straight at home!💙🧡 let’s go LEOO 4 life
Great news and awesome Job from the oilers group! Leon now knows he is wanted and has a pivotal role in bringing the cup home! Leaders lead and other people always want a leader!!
Why did he lie? The panthers did not have 4 people taking up that much cap. There too 4 took up $33.5, after mcdavid is resigned their top 4 will take up almost $50M or more.
I get the feeling there's about a half million dollar embarrassment tax added on to his salary. Germans don't like to be embarrassed and Edmonton management is always creating new ways to be more and more embarrassing.
This is a Joke. With Salaries like that, how are you supposed to form a Stanley Cup Winning Team? This is too much. I have no Understanding of the Oilers signing a Contract like this.
@Canucksnate how can you say Canucks are living in someone's head rent free when you're here watching Oilers content lol? I guess I would be too if the team I cheered for was nothing special though
@@CC-of5xldefinition of a hypocrite lol imagine hanging out in Canucks comments just to troll because your a sore loser lol he needs to get a life big time
@@jimbytarnish9698 but bowman is the one who's in charge of actually getting the signing done not leon himself. The players don't construct their teams the GM's do
@@ethanparker7900 what was he going to do just not talk to Leon about resigning haha any gm would have got this done, bowman has done nothing yet to improve this team from last season.
@@ryans413and it took longer than it should have to do that, they wanted the deal done before the end of August. I understand draisaitl wanted to wait to announce it because of gaudreau and didn’t want to take away from that news, which was a very classy move on draisaitls part!
